You can buy with cash or not ??? If loan ? Forget it.. You wont get bank loan for such cars.

Cash or loan?
Can afford for repairs and potential high waiting time? Rare cars rare parts and expensive too.

not stupid imho. but it does get harder harder to find a closest to stock, more well maintained or 'not so early year made' ones.

secondly, of course, financing also harder. Some bank might still loan a 12 yrs but i think mostly will be 10 years so now is 2014, ur safer choice only 2004/05 made...

I'm driving one 2005 JDM for almost 2 years, stock under 100k, as daily drive...no headaches, just general service insofar.

If you got alot of money, then wat money can solve is not a problem.

If this purchase is for your weekend ride then perhaps it should be ok as it will be hardly used.

You need a lot of experience in looking for a 12-15 year old car. Some are fairly well maintain, while mostly aren't. Since you are looking at a sports car category, it's even harder to get a well maintain ones as those who owns this category will definately trashed their cars.

Good luck in your hunting!

nope not worth, always at mercy of kereta potong shops for parts, they are out for profit not for passion unlike other countries where you can probably get good parts in good nick simply because they are car lovers too.

legendary RWD are only fun if you know use them the way they are meant to be driven.
If you're just going to shampoo, wax it and drive normally, then I advise you not to get these cars. Not worth the headaches.

Are they a headache as a daily?
Depends on the initial condition of the vehicle when you purchased it. Then once you have purchased it, depends on how much you are willing to sink into it to fix/improve it.

Boring vs Sports?

Its a subjective matter, what is your objective in the first place for the vehicle? How much cash do you have to purhcase?, how much money are you willing to put into the wear/parts/repairs?, do you have an alternative mode of transport incase the car needs to sit in the workshop?

People often buy these old school sports cars because they like the history and the rarity. They can be driven daily but all of them I've seen are thoroughly restored. Most who own them are either rich or don't mind the small-ish financial struggle.

It's not stupid owning one, IF you have the cash.

Best to go the respective car club forum to learn in details the ownership experience. you might get some general suggestions here but I think it will not be practical for you.

My vollegue bought himself a "reliable" TOYOTA celica and planned to use it as a daily car.
Ends up I have had to fetch him to work several times a year because of his car stuck in garage for repairs.
So, like many others have advised, its a matter of how much money you willing to dump in to restore that old piece of legend. The satisfaction is there, but is it worth your time and money, this question only you have answer.
