Lavalantula (2015)
Have you had one of those days, where you are sitting on your couch and you JUST DO NOT WANT TO MOVE....
You had switched on the TV and you just watch what is on...
This happened to me a couple of days back and for some odd reason, it was on Syfy Channel (which I rarely watch).
Lavalantula was on.
Apparently, on for at least two thirds of the movie.
Several comments about this "gem"
1) Steve Guttenberg is in this? Steve Guttenberg whom we all love in Police Academy and Coccoon!!! He is reduced to doing this?? The synopsis to Lavalantula states it best "Colton West, a once popular movie star and action hero from the 90s, is now reduced to acting in low-budget movies about horrific bugs. The old days of glamour and stardom, seem to be long forgotten and now Colton, the star of "Red Rocket""
2) The title, Lavalantula!!!
3) The story, nothing can be said about the story.... That's is, NOTHING CAN BE SAID!!!!
Took me a few days to recover from this gem...

Hey guys
Everyone is entitled to their opinions.
If I watch anything 1080p, I do post it here.
If that creates issues here, I will stop.
The whole world it seems to really want to tear itself up
Do we really want to do it here as well?
If you really do not agree with something anyone does here, please point out what it really is that bothers you and we can come to some kind of consensus here.
There really is no point getting crossed with each other.
Okay everyone?

Thank you voncrane, negayem & GamersFamilia.
I would be the first to admit that I sometimes do not strictly "stick to the topic heading".
When I do that there are reasons why I do that
1) If the movie is release as a direct to video and will not been shown in the cinema, I choose to put my review here, because as I had stated, it is not shown in the cinema.
2) I do also put reviews of old movie that has great or otherwise transfer to 1080p. I do revisit old movies. And if they get great transfer I do tend to share that here as well. In case there are old movie buffs here as well.
I hope that is okay.
We are here because of one reason, and one reason alone.
We are all movie buffs.
That in itself should be a unifying and not a divisive factor.
Everyone has their own way of expressing their appreciation for the thing they love.
Whether we agree or disagree with the form of expression, it is an opinion.
Shall we agree to disagree and move on from there?
It would be a shame if this topic gets closed down because of everyone is passionate about their own opinions and their own opinions alone.
As I always state in my reviews, this is only my two sen.

Bird On A Wire (1990)
Remember Mel Gibson and Goldie Hawn?
Well, this movie was when they were HOT (eg. they names could draw movie audiences)!
I would categories this as a action/comedy.
How else would I describe this?
Let's see...
Okay, Goldie Hawn plays a TOUGH lawyer, she pulverizes any "opponent" in a boardroom.
Because she is good at what she does, she is wealth and have a wealthy lawyer boyfriend/partner.
But under the tough exterior she is...
Okay, one days, she is out of town and in a rented BMW, she stops at a small town gas station to gets gas and she see Mel Gibson, who looks alot like her first husband. She confronts him, and he denies that he is her first husband.
She pretended that she believes him, but return later to confront him again, and when she arrived at night, he is being attacks by two guys, wanting to kill him!!!
Comedy mayhem transpires!!
Well, this was done in the 90s.
It is a little period, and if you like "mistaken identity?" comedy, this is actually good.
Mel, "flexes" his funny and chameleon bone and his chemistry with Goldie is good.
Video transfer is a little "soft" and overall decent.
I cannot remember if I watched this is the cinema, so chances are, I probably first watched it on LD, and having said that I still enjoyed the transfer.
Another blast I got from this movie is the soundtrack, music from the stage show Hair (Aquarius) and cover version of Leonard Cohen's Bird On A Wire (hence the movie title) by the Neville Brothers were really an appreciated blast from the past.
So is you like "aged" comedy, give this a swill!!

Kung Fu Yoga (2017)
Well... What can I say about this movie?...
In 800 A.D. both Chinese and Indian spoke.... English... (baring in mind this is prior to the Western colonization of Asia)...
India is all about Snake Charming, Rope Trick and... cookie cut villainy... *Sigh*
You know what is the meaning of plagiarism?
No??
To plagiarize, you steal other people's idea and call it your own....
Anyone here familiar with Raiders of the lost Ark?
No?
Then you are good.
Otherwise, you are in for.... NO SURPRISE!!!
Oh oh, wait, it is not plagiarizing if you say you are plagiarizing, then it becomes an Homage... 2 x *Sigh*
That is a VERY fine line Mr. Jackie...
This movie has good intentions.... Basically trying to merge China and India's film industry.
The down side it, the material and execution...
Don't get me wrong production value wise this movie is great
It does have it's moments.
Just too few and story-wise nothing original...
Shame on you Mr. Jackie...
Visually and sonic-ally, this movie is great.
Too bad not much else worth mentioning...

Sleepaway Camp (1983)
What the HECK did I just watched?? (I have NOT seen this before)
I don't think this kinda movie can be made nowadays, even if they tried!!!
The whole cast is from Queens, just see how they act and talk!!! (Eg, this is a prime example of how NOT to cast a movie)
This movie is SO CAMP, it is not funny.
Really camp, not ironically camp!!
This is R Rated and all the kids are SO YOUNG when they made this.
How did the producers and director get away with it!!!
The ending, my goodness the ending. I was literally dozing off and the last scene happened!!!
I was WIDE AWAKE after THAT!!!!
Again, how did the producers and director get away with THIS!!!!
My EYES, they BURN!!!!!
My Two Sen.
PS, VIDEO transfer not the best example of what can be done for older movies, but that LAST SCENE... Oh My Gosh...

My Annoying Brother (2016) (Korean)
Gosh
I think I had O.D.ed on Hollywood movie...
After watching The Mummy (2017), nothing currently at the cinema is motivating me to go to the cinema...
Which brings me to this little gem...
I first notice Korean movie in the year 2001, namely Volcano High (2001).
I was amazed by how "progressive" Korean movies were and how up to date (it was quite C.G.I. intensive.... for it's time)
Fast forwad 16 years, and this little gem bowled me over again.
This time as to how well a Korean comedy/drama can be!!
This movie is.... Korea's Rain Man? I am para-phrasing here.
The story can be considered a throw back (to Hong Kong's black and white movie era). And have to say the comedy is up to date. The actors Jo Jung-suk (who playes the older & annoying brother) and Do Kyung-Soo (the younger brother) did they respective roles justice.
The bar "pickup" scene was funny!!
Ending is predictable, and have to add, satisfying (for me anyway)
So, if you care for something different, go for this!
Quite "intimately" filmed
Video transfer is current, and have to add, not reference.
Sound is decent
Enjoy this movie for the story and acting.

Fabricated City (2017) (Korean)This is how Imdb describes this movie A gamer named Kwon yoo (Ji Chang wook) is unemployed, but in the virtual world he is a leader. Kwon yoo is then framed for murder. With the help of his gaming buddies they try to uncover the truth about this murder case. And this is how I'm describing it The Wrong Man (1956) + The Fugitive (1993) + The Fast and the Furious (2001)???!!! If you don't believe me, watch it for yourself. Having watched several Korean movies recently, here is what I can say about Korean actors.... They have a "trait" They are tall, thin and have.... perfect nose?? See for your self. I like this. Especially the beginning. Give it a go why don't you. Video transfer is great Sound it also good My Two Sen

QUOTE(AVFAN @ Jul 2 2017, 08:58 PM) volcano high... i remember! u should also remember musa, shiri, old boy, war of the arrows. just watched this. 3/5. yes, not bad. won't be surprised if hollywood will come up with a similar movie - the age of supercyber crime! in a way, i thought there was some resemblance to fate of the furious (FF8) - the car chases, remote controls, hacking... yes, this one is delightful. not unlike one of those disney adventure happy ending movies. 3/5. good cgi with a theme! No so much Musa... The rest yes. Yeah, there is a level of "grittiness" to Korean movie. They are more willing to take risk, with their storyline, unlike Hollywood They kinda reminds me of Hong Kong movies, during the 80s and 90s...
