Batman: The Killing Joke (2016)

It is interesting how Warner Brothers is having a tough time getting DC's movie right, will DC is churning out quality animation for Warner Brother's animation...

If they just get the people involved in the animation, invested in the live action...

And have to add, that is another story...

Firstly, this is NOT for very young children.

There are alot of adult themes here and it also explains why Batgirl becomes Oracle....

One of the most shocking comic books had been adapted to animation and it is some what... diluted...

Still quite heinous even though I had read the graphic novel and was expecting it.

Do yourself a favour and watch this and after that read Batman: The Killing Joke (Graphic Novel, 1988, writern by Alan Moore, drawn by Brian Bolland)

The Jungle Book (2016)

I just want to add that Neel Sethi (Mowgli) is the only "human" in the movie and he was able to carry it through!! laugh.gif

Careful What You Wish For (2015)

Okay...

It was a lazy Sunday afternoon, and I had nothing better to do...

Well, this movie is in the genre of

Basic Instinct (1992)
Wild Things (1998)

This is by NO MEANS that this movie is ANYWAY near the two stated movie...

For this movie to work, the audience had to be enthralled by Lena Harper (Isabel Lucas) and sympathetic to Doug Martin (Nick Jonas).

I know I am in danger of rubbing the fans of Nick Jonas (they would probably wish I would die from 10,000 paper cuts) the wrong way, I regret to state that neither played they respective roles convincing enough to make the movie "work".

This was made in 2012, and it does not even have a US release date, which means the production house is not quite sure what to do with it (eg. release in the cinema or direct to video).

The fact that I got to see it, suggest the later...

So I have mention that the the leads was not able to portray their respective roles and even worst, everything about the script is predictable. Nothing surprised me!!!

It is safe for you to skip this, unless you are a die hard fan of Isabel Lucas or Nick Jonas...

In short, I did this so you do not have to...

Captain Fantastic (2016)

I confess

I do not have patience for Drama movies at this point in time.

I have too much to do, and drama movies are slow pace...

It was Chinese Net Years, and I had a little time so I gave this a go and boy am I glad I did.

Would you consider to "go back to nature" and give or receive education that emphasize independent thinking rather the reiterating what you have read...

Well, this movie actually answers that and does make very persuasive argument for the above.

In the end, the family remains a family thru strong interpersonal bonds and by Jove, it is a privilege to witness.

There is alot of... nudity in this (not sexual) so please be advised.

If you want something different, well, I would say this is VERY different.

Mission Milano (2016)

Well, have you pretended to be something you are not and you come acrossed as not yourself?

Well, this movie suffers from that in spades...

Story predictable.

It copied from Hollywood shamelessly and unapologetically (Mission Impossible, Resident Evil, Italian Job and on and on and on and on.....

Really REALLY sad and disappointing...

Do Andy Lau and Huan Xiao Ming really need the money?

The fact that they agree to be in this means the answer is yes...

Sad...

Ed Sheeran: Jumpers For Goalposts - Live At Wembley Stadium (2015)

He did a Wembley Stadium (77,000 seatings stadium) and he did it alone (eg. no band...)

And it is a GREAT concert...

Can this man do no wrong?

For now, no.

The Girl on the Train (2016)

This is first and foremost a drama and then a thriller.

If you can get past that and with a little patience, the payback at the end is pretty good.

Rachel (played by Emily Blunt) is a wreck. And she (the actress) is brave and confident enough to appear in most of the movie without makeup. I was shock when she first appear in the movie and then it was later revealed that she is an alcoholic!

She is estrange from her ex-husband, and because of her addiction (to alcohol) she has issue connecting to... life...

I know I am not doing this movie any justice and have to add the payback at the end was actually rewarding.

Emily Blunt playes a good drunk!! laugh.gif

Legend of Eight Samurai 里見八犬伝 (1983)

Wow, this brings back memories!!

Originally, watched this on VHS (black rectacgular plastic box, with magnetic tape, for storage... Anybody here familar with this tech?? laugh.gif) when I was a wee lad...

This movie was the number one movie, in Japan, in 1983!

I am most impress with the picture quality on it new format!

I watched a German pressed blu-ray.

This is a mythical based movie.

Special effects are if-fy

Some aged well, others...

Other highlights include Shin'ichi Chiba and a really young Hiroyuki Sanada are in this.

I have to mention though, I believe, Tsui Hark probably was inspired by this movie when he did his A Chinese Ghost Story (1988).

If you had watched this before, as I had said, I never swy this in the cinema, and have to add, this is the best this movie ever looked to me.

Justice League Dark (2017)

If you are a fan of Matt Ryan's Constantine, than there is a high probability you will enjoy this.

The TV series played the character "safe", here they pulled no punches.

Who know, if this sells, they may just have more crossover in Arrow or just continue with the TV series (HBO, are you listening?)

DC has a wide range of supernatural characters and most of the more known ones are here (with the exclusion of Dr. Fate, though shape eye fans would probably see the mask in The House Of Mystery... Easter Egg? laugh.gif)

This animation explains, when something strange, in the neighborhood, who does BATMAN CALL? Constantine!! (Well, Zatanna first and then Constantine, if you want to be precise) tongue.gif

I enjoyed this immensely and all I can say is.... More!!!

Also got to catch a glimpse of Teen Titans Judas Contract. I have the comic and have to add... Cannot wait!!

The Disappointments Room (2016)

What a... disappointment!

Okay, again, I am getting ahead of myself.

Director D.J. Caruso, did this.

Who is he you may ask.

He is also the director of these movies

Taking Lives (2004)
Disturbia (2007)
Eagle Eye (2008)

Pretty decent, right?

We than have Kate Beckinsale headlining this.

You know the chick in a tight leather outfits for the movie Underworld, where she hunts down and kill werewolves because she is a vampire. Remember? oh, she was also quite popular in a chick flick call Serendipity (2001) (Not to be confused with Josh Wheeldon's Serenity (2005)).

And here in lays the first issue. You expect her to kick ass, and she does not...

Then you have Wentworth Miller writing this. Yes, the same Wentworth Miller who was in Prison Break (TV Series). I understand in L.A. everyone who has a job, imagine themselves in another job, and it got ridiculous here.

The final offence... Vince Filippone. It is my opinion that he did a butcher job here... The edit of the film made absolutely NO SENSE!!

And and, I don't even know why Lucas Till (new Macgyver) is in this movie... I suppose everyone needs to pay rent...

Okay, the premise of the movie is sound.

I am afraid the delivery.... leaves much to be desired...

rogue one is the first of a star wars anthology series.

a spin off, the story is set between episode iii and iv.

all new faces, incl forest whitaker, mads mikkelsen, donnie yen, jiang wen.

difficult to say if it is better or worse than the last 7 episodes; i'll give it 3.5/5.

one thing sorely missing in this one are light saber wielding jedi's.

come dec, we will have star wars viii: the last jedi.

Like it or not, this proves that the public is ready for a star wars movie without Jedis

Hence the young Han Solo project in the works.

I kinda like this movie

For some odd reason the Star Was the new hope, when they talks about the death star and the lady said many a people die to get this plans to us, what she emote stayed with me (and I watch Star Wars the first time it was release in the cinemas)

This movie encapsulates that expression of her beautifully

Yup and Yup

Personally, I think they did a fantastic job on Peter Cushing's. Carrie Fisher... a little plastic-ky

Sad that she is not not going to be in the Last Jedi.... or is she?? hmm.gif

Warrior's Gate (2016)

Hollywood!!

For the love of everything that is good, you should STOP making "Chinese" movies!!!

This movie, it the textbook of HOW not to make movies...

Terrible to the T (in the spirit of movies like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon 2 and Vikingdom....)

Yes, correct that bad!!

Have not idea why Mark Chao and Dave Bautista are in this one...

Teen Titans: The Judas Contract (2017)

Alas, if only DC is able to adapted their life action movies this well.

C'est la vie

Story wise this takes place after Justice League vs. Teen Titans (2016)

Terra is introduce.

Probably one of the most iconic story line during the 90's. One of Marv Wolfman and George Perez BEST work!

And it adapted well to this animation (some artistic license is taken, but overall, nicely done)

Well done DC, keep this up.

Watch this people, just watch this

Cook Up a Storm (2017)

A throw back to 1990's Hong Kong type movie that is... decent...

My only complain is that they do not "hyperbole" the cooking and food

And direction and editing, was not... impact enough to push this from decent to very good
