Why cant Konami choose italina/spanish + English leagues then?

At its press conference earlier this week, Microsoft made the announcement that Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer (known as winning Eleven to us) and EA's FIFA Soccer would both see a year's exclusivity on the Xbox 360, making its next-gen console "the platform" for soccer fans. This was seemingly a huge win for Microsoft, considering how popular Soccer is in the European and Asian territories.

Now, however, we're starting to hear a different story. Speaking with Winning Eleven producer/creator Shingo 'Seabass' Takatsuka earlier today, we learned that Microsoft made claims that were untrue. "The presentation was misleading," he told us. "We never said exclusive for one year on the next-gen platforms. We said this year. We were agreed that it was this year."

According to Takatsuka, Microsoft's claims have caused some issues for Konami (with Sony, no doubt), and he definitely wants to set the record straight. Winning Eleven is exclusive to the 360 for this year, but it's likely a case of necessesity (the PS3 game, which he confirmed is being worked on, isn't far enough along in development) rather than some major exclusivity deal with Microsoft. The PS3 version could ship as early as next spring, he admitted, though no timeframe has been set yet. The only thing certain is that it will absolutely not release before January 1, 2007.

Interestingly, although EA has no official comment on the matter yet, sources indicate that FIFA may not have a year's exclusivity window for next-gen platforms either.

Winning Eleven X (Japanese version) is out on December 14th according to playasia. Hmm..

So I'm quite tempted to get this when this comes out next month, even though it's all in Japanese. US version isn't out until February (and who knows if that's even going to be Asian 360 compatible?) Plus, by that time, WE 11 will probably be around the corner too.

Frankly, I'm stunned that there's no talk of an Asian release at all. FIFA 07 is pretty good fun, but at the end of the day, it's still no WE.

Yup, Jap games work on Asian consoles no problem.

I'm also thinking of getting WEX....I'm just hoping that maybe, just maybe they improved a bit on the complaints Europeans had on PES6....

Yeah, I'm kinda peeved there's no Asian version of PES/WE. I'm sure there's a sizable market for football games over here...

I'd like English text too, but as long as I can edit the player names into English, I'll be fine. I played so many Japanese WEs on the PS2 and the menus never change. So I've pretty much memorised everything now.

Player and menu name in English! More than happy with it. Jap commentary lagi bagus

I always change the commentary language to anything but English. Japanese, Spanish, French, German, it's all good, as long as I don't understand it. English commentary gets old so quickly. The commentary in Fifa 07 is sooo bad.

ya PES or WE they are the same just the language. so i'll wait for PES then, not WE there's a PES coming out rite?

commentary in FIFA always sucks. they lag. goal scored for a few seconds only they shout "goal"

PES is already out, but Europe only. Winning Eleven is coming out in the US in February, but don't know if that's region free or not. No Asian release announced.
