Hi fellow gamers,

I recently got a Xbox 360s as a gift. I tried to play Need for Speed Rivals and it said I need a Xbox 360 hard drive to be able to play. It didn't allow me to install into the 4GB internal memory space so I decided to buy a WD Elements 500GB external hard drive.

I read online that it has to be Fat32 format so I formatted the drive and plugged it in. Tried to format the drive using the xbox interface (System Settings -> Memory), and after it finished, it threw up an error stating it was below the recommended requirements (didn't understand why). But it showed that there was 32GB space free so I thought I'll give it a try since the game said it only needed 1.2GB.

I tried to run the game again and showed the hard drive as the source only for the game to reject it saying it needs an Xbox 360 hard drive. I don't understand this. So I can't use any external drive? It has to be some Xbox specific hard drive? If so, where am I supposed to get that in Malaysia?

I am disappointed with the difficulty I'm facing. Hope someone can help me figure this out.

Kind Regards,
Plague

You're looking at the wrong hard disk requirement. The one the game need is the internal hard disk as most of recent EA games need. External hard disk support only up to 32GB per partition/drive so if you have larger drive, only 32GB will be used for Xbox 360. Most probably your Xbox 360 Slim set is a barebone one that only come with 4GB of onboard storage which is not sufficient to install any games (I believe only 2+GB free space is left and it's required for updates and caches).

The one you're looking for is like this:

You can get one from Qisahn.

You can take a look at video below on how to remove (if any) existing hard disk and slot in a new one.

Damn. So I wasted money with the external drive? Now I must buy another one instead. Is it available in LowYat by any chance? The link you shared is in Singapore so I need wait for delivery. Hoping I can get it sooner locally.

Ts, Need for Speed Rivals on the Xbox 360 requires an Xbox 360 Hard Drive with 3GB of storage space for a mandatory installation of game disc content. You will be prompted to perform this installation the first time time you boot up your game and you cannot play your game without this installation, nor can it be installed on flash memory sticks, or internal flash memory--such as the internal memory onboard of the Xbox 360 Slim, or 4GB model.

Xbox 360 Hard Drives are available and sold separately for the Xbox 360 Slim/4GB, Arcade, and Core consoles. Check with rocket_jet here https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=2717409 if he still have them for sale;
Xbox 360 Slim 250gb HDD @ Rm 290.00
Xbox 360 Slim 320gb HDD @ Rm 330.00
Xbox 360 Fat 250gb HDD @ Rm 290.00

Do take note if you're buying the xbox 360 hard drive for the fat or slim model because the hard drive is non-compatible between the fat and slim xbox 360 models! smile.gif

Don't assume because sellers ain't gonna exchange for you if you buy wrong things. Take a look at this pic http://i1.ytimg.com/vi/ohF_cGEcB7k/maxresdefault.jpg and tell us which one look like your xbox 360. If it's the top one, that's the slim model. If below, that's the fat model. Then make sure you tell him you want the xbox 360 hard drive for which model and size to not buy the wrong things smile.gif

It's the top one. I did check the pictures of both in google and based on that I came to the conclusion it was the Xbox 360s. Since it was a used item gift, I didn't get any box with it.

I have messaged him. I'll wait for his reply and see. Although his price is higher (320GB for RM330) than the one from Singapore (320GB for RM230 + shipping).
