Man i've been hopping almost daily since i got my car from here to gr8tunes to mycarhifi and to zth for ICE readups. Finally i end up back here tongue.gif.

Here's the deal. I'm driving a Kancil, i want to ICE it up, but im on a super budget, so this will be quite the challenge. Im going just front door mounted and tweets, SQ only. Need components, run on HU, then only save up for amp, and finally sound dampening.

I'm going all 2nd hand to keep the budget. My first item is the HU, a 2nd hand JVC s785. Already got that. RM230 damage T.T

Now i need a component set. Budget for comp set is RM 350 or less, so 2nd hand is the only way. Some of the comp sets which i'm keen with :

- Alpine Type R SPR-176A
- CDT CL-61/62
- Eclipse E1772GS

My music preferance is solid midbass, good mids, clarity without being bright. Mostly are oldies and pop with once in a while rock. I like the details of instruments in oldies (i can hardly enjoy the instruments and digitized music of modern rock tongue.gif).

For the meantime, i can only power the comps with my HU, which is a 45w x 4 (or, 17w rms x 4). The sensitivity of the Type R are 87db, which is quite low, but the CL-62, 90+, so it'll fare better. Not sure about the Eclipse tho. I would save up for an amp in the future, but who knows how long it'll take me to save up for it. So i'll need to be able to enjoy the speakers powered by HU only b4 i get the amp.

Based on the 3 speakers above, and other speakers if any1 can recommend :
1) which speaker suites my needs more?
2) which speaker runs reasonably well (at least, noticably better than stock) powered just by the HU
3) any offers currently for the type r and cdt cl-62?

Thanks people for your time ^^

1) listen to them yourself... join TTs, listen to them palying your favourite and most faniliar tunes...

2) good aftermarket speakers will always be better than the stock speakers... so as the HU... so which ever you choose from tht list would sound better than the stocks...

since you are planning to get an amp later then choose the best one for you... better than buy a set now which is best powered by your HU and buy another one later which is best powered by your amp...

ICE when you are one step wrong its hard for you to turn back... especially when you are on tight budget...

cheers...

make sure you audit them in a car... cuz auditing in a room and in a car makes a lot of difference... jus bear tht in mind... when auditing new component set... make sure it has been run-in and in side a car... like tht then you can know the real characteristics of the things you buy...

cheers...

yup i just had them installed today
one thing they did which i wasnt too happy is they mounted the midbass on the kancil door trim instead of the metal frame
guess it cant be helped. maybe next time i'll get some1 to install a baffle

i got the Eclipse E1772GS. audition them now.

powered by the JVC HU, 17rms watts rated. The eclipse is quite unknown, not much can be found online about them. Nominal wattage is 50rms, so its quite underdriven.

As for sound, so far sounds pretty ok. Much better than my stock audio. Mid bass is there, but not too clear, maybe because of the lack of power, as well as it being mounted on my Kancil door trim instead on a baffle/frame. Will rectify this soon.

Also, the tweets are pretty harsh and sounds digitized, but i cant complain much for a component set this price. Sounds something like the Alpine SPR-17LS tweets. Harsh and doesnt blend with the mids.

I'm quite satisfied with the speaker but hoping that the mids and midbass can be clearer when i install the baffle. Also wondering whether is there anyway i can tame the tweets harshness.

And, it hasn't been waterproofed =(.

bro ...since u have plans to include an amp into your setup then i think u should audition them using an amp instead cos there r some real cheap speaker that could sound damn good using HU build-in amp but doesnt improve much when u change to a good amp ....

example....try driving a dynaudio using HU....it will sound much worse than than all the speaker u have mention but that doesnt mean that the speaker is bad .....if u feed the dyaudio with a good amp ...it will outshine most of the speaker u mention .....if u wanna know the capability of the speaker ...drive it with an amp ....

the eclipse may sound better than both the other speaker without an amp but if u use a good amp the result maybe otherwise .....u may regret later on leh ....
