If 3.8k is too much for you, then best bang of buck is Acer V Nitro currently.. the spec is almost the same as Z5 but the cooling is slightly worse than Z5.. and without sub-woofer..
But Acer V Nitro comes with LG-IPS screen which is better than Z5 normal screen..
Acer V Nitro cost RM3,399..

dont forget VN7 has smaller battery. Think new VN7 stock with the Intel card puts it on par with Z5 in that scenario.

i am adding to the further cons on VN7 not Z5. VN7 3 cell Z5 iirc is 6-cell
yes VN7 got no subwoofer - your post already mentioned that.

The other statement is on the wifi card. VN7 had a lousier one, but new Jan stock seems to be coming Intel 7265NGW so should be considered on par with Z5 now

Oic.. sorry lar i didn't get you  sweat.gif
Well VN7 do come with a good IPS Screen.. no doubt about that.. haha
And it comes with an optical drive.. very less laptop which is so thin comes with optical drive.. so it's a plus for me  thumbup.gif
My Z5 is using 7260 AC though...
*
Hmm VN7 15" no optical drive. Only the 17" has.

I would instead recommend ILLEGEAR RX-17 EVO. More up to date components (the Dell GTX770 graphic card is already 2-gen old). To save can even drop down to single (non-SLI) card if your friend do not game much.

guys i am planning buy a new cheap notebook... with around 1,5k or less budget.

currently i have my eye on this model...

Asus X452LDV-BING-VX287B X-Series 14" Laptop/ Notebook

its about 1.2k, i3, with a dedicated gfx card(820m)... but i can't find any review on it....

spec wise... it seems quite decent for its price, other brands need at least 1.4-1.6k only have a dedicated gfx card...

usage will be for web browsing, videos and light games. i have a desktop to handle the heavy stuff. smile.gif

anyone with experience with this model?
*
820m is an entry level card. I read some where that the new Intel HD5500 (onboard inside iX processors) already have very good performance. I guess it depends on your "light" games. Might be even be better to find one w/o a gfx card but better cpu to extend the life of the laptop.

Performance

Depending on the specific CPU, the maximum GPU frequency varies between 850 and 950 MHz. Due to the low TDP, however, the average clock in 3D applications will be somewhat lower. According to first benchmarks, the HD 5500 outperforms the previous HD Graphics 4400 by 20 - 25 percent and offers a performance slightly below a dedicated GeForce 820M.

Games as of 2014/2015 will usually run fluently only at (very) low settings.

those light games i meant are like flash games on facebook, or browser games. stuff u 'play' when your boss aren't looking or when u have free time to kill at work.  brows.gif

will look into the hd5500... tho isn't having a dedicated vga card better? my current dell vostro(since 2008) is dying, even as i type this... the monitor needs to be at an angle only will have display, and its getting worse to find that 'angle'...
*
not necessarily - dedicated cards just have dedicated memory, processor, bus etc. Of coz built in GPU -> Push it too hard and it affects normal CPU processing, eats your RAM etc.

screen... could be your screen dying and not the computer/card. might be cheaper to swap the screen if the whole pc still works

Hi sifus, looking to buy a new laptop to replace old Acer aspire 4820tg.

1. Preferred Brand : Acer, Asus, Lenovo
2. Budget : 3K to 4K
3. Usage : college, medium gaming, video/photo editing
4. Preferred laptop/screen size : 15/16in

DOS version preferred because Microsoft has student discount windows 8.1pro only rm215.
Portability is important. (Dont need too portable such as ultrbook.
i7, nvidia dgpu with cuda.
3-5 hours battery life.
Good screen.
Good cooling.

Actually I'm looking at Acer V Nitro 15in and lenovo y50. I like the y50 more and it does have dos version. It has good cooling too. The only problem is the TN screen. I'm comfortable to replace the screen to IPS screen but it doesn't seems that I can buy the replacement screen anywhere in Malaysia.

I'm open to other alternative choices as well. I'll be buying the laptop in late q2. Should I also wait for Intel 5th gen cpu? Thanks in advance to all sifus  smile.gif
*
just wait for 5th gen.

Y50 also has an documentated overheating/throttling problem. Like miong93 said, if you want to spend money on Y50 DOS version, then might as well consider Z5.

Comparing Z5, v 15 nitro and y50, they have similar specs. Acer cheapest but quality ok or not ah?
*
so far i am happy. my only complaint is the Atheros wifi card but acer support (and lowyat community) is helping me look into it now

I am looking at Acer Malaysia website but it doesn't say if the V 15 Nitro have international warranty. This is important for me because I'm buying laptop to bring overseas. Any idea if they offer intl warranty like Lenovo?

Acer V Nitro comes with m2 slot.. But not sure it's SATA or PCIE slot.. So you can install SSD in the future.

Btw, seems MSI promoting like mad now. Got alot of deals for GE and GP series with free SSD or cheap upgrade. Gotta check some of their dealer and see. Last time at MITF also saw free SSD upgrade.

Good luck and happy shopping!  thumbup.gif  rclxms.gif

Usage: Photo processing in LR, medium gaming (Planetside 2 and Guild wars 2 are the most demanding games I'll ever play) and word processing.
*
No experience with Planetside 2, but Guild Wars 2 (the vanilla 1 anyway) is a processor bounded game. Thus investing in an i7 would be recommended vs a high end graphics card.

On another note. time for V25 perhaps?
