Thanks for the reply TJ. For a budget of 3.5k which gaming laptop would u recommend me?
*
Can consider this one, but they are selling off real fast hmm.gif
15.6"
Lenovo Y50-70 (59-422941), i7-4710HQ + Nvidia GTX860M + (1920x1080 anti-glare)@RM3599[2.4kg], 8GB, 1TB, red backlit KB, FreeDOS, 2 yrs

Otherwise, its best to save a bit more. You will get better picks (better GPU) with a RM4k budget nod.gif

Unfortunately I can't save up soon enough and it's over my budget adding on the fact it is a DOS. Would the Y410p be the best choice under 3.5k?
*
Yeah, I suppose you can say that, granted you don't mind a 14" profile and no FullHD la laugh.gif

Currently eyeing on lenovo y50, illegear re-15 and gigabyte p27 after some researches but having dilemma on choosing which since I can try Lenovo y50 in my area but then illegear is on promo(free ssd upgrade very tempting).

i'd say go for Illegear RE-15. you will need the exceptionally good cooling for gaming and as said, free SSD promo.

Hi, im not so clever with computer...
Would like to ask u guys opinion...
Brand: any brands (as long as part easy to find)
Budget: 4k max
Usage : browsing n games
Size: any

Im using my old laptop acer 4820tg, with upgrade 4gb ram...
Would like to change to better and faster laptop...
Recently i get an offer for used laptop...
3.5k For asus lamborghini vx7sx
The spec look nice...
But this laptop quite old already...
Should i get a brand new or used?
*
The 4820Tg was really one of a kind, I remembered how it used to pawn every other notebook of its class thumbup.gif
The Lamborghini VX7 is not worth it despite the great looks since u can already get a new and more powerful notebook at that price nod.gif

The laptop to go for now would be the Illegear RE-15 EVO due to the free Raya promotion (free SSD) check out the link below for more details.

15.6'
Configure Illegear units here: http://www.illegear.com/
Illegear RE-15 EVO, i7-4710MQ + Nvidia GTX860M + (1920x1080)@RM3899[2.6kg][Onkyo, SoundBlaster Cinema], 8GB, 500GB(Hybrid), Backlit Keyboard, FreeDOS, [CPU Options: i5-4200M - i7-4900MQ]

*Use remaining budget to get an OS

Better hurry though icon_rolleyes.gif

1. Preferred Brand:Any Brand
2. Budget: Below RM3000
3. Usage : Microsoft Office, photo Editing
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 13-15 inch

I'm looking for laptop with FullHD screen (for photo editing), minimum 4 hours battery life and 128GB SSD (for faster boot).

Currently I'm considering Lenovo Flex 2 (upgraded with SSD) and HP Pavilion 14-N270TX. But I'm also considering Lenovo Y50 and Macbook 13 with retina display.. Is it worthy to save a bit more for Y50 and Macbook Pro Retina since I only use my laptop for Microsoft office and photo editing?

Anyway, thank you.. smile.gif

PS: Just ignore the naysayers in this thread.. IMHO, this is the best laptop recommendations thread in Malaysia.. No doubt about it!  smile.gif
*
Thanks for the encouragements man notworthy.gif
The sifus and I appreciate it!

Anyway, for photo editing, getting a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro RD (cheapest at RM4.1k wo) is a better pick since the screens are better and more accurate bro icon_rolleyes.gif

There are complains about yellowish tints of the IPS Screen of the Flex-2 (probably due to relatively cheaper IPS screen to keep prices down)
I think only the MBA13 (and MBA11 if you are considering) is within your budget unfortunately:
13"
Apple
MacBookAir 13", i5-4260U + Intel HD5000 + 128GB SSD + (1440x900)@RM3199[1.35kg], 4GB, backlit keyboard, Mac OSX

*upgrade RAM when you have the budget, it will help with Photoshop rendering and multitasking icon_rolleyes.gif

As for Office, take note that you will experience incompatibilities when switching from APple to Windows platforms ya icon_rolleyes.gif

All recommendations are most welcomed!  smile.gif

1. Preferred Brand - None (as long as there is good warranty coverage)
2. Budget - 1.5k ~ 2k
3. Usage - Home use only, casual gaming, watching movies, internet, homework
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - 15.6" and above

Your requirements are a bit too high for your budget unfortunately hmm.gif Budget notebooks don't come with pre-installed Office, you have to buy separately and install yourself unfortunately = higher cost
Try looking for this one"

Satellite L50-A100X/XW, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT740M@RM2199[Onkyo], 4GB, 750GB, W8SL; 3 years local warranty; colors:silver/white

It may be an older mode, but the specs and warranty is pretty good for the price (which may be even lower now)

If not available, then these"

Asus

It will be good to opt for warranty extensions for expensive ultrabooks such as these, as they can be expensive to repair

If you don't mind using Mac OSX, then the MBA13 (RM3.2k variant) will be the perfect pick. Use remaining budget to upgrade to 8GB RAM, and extend warranty to 3 years (~RM800) for peace of mind.

As for a Windows system, I will definitely take the XPS13, bargain or dig until I can get one with 3 years warranty laugh.gif... but I'm biased, so don't take my word for it laugh.gif Try out the systems for yourself, one of the biggest problems with thin and light notebooks such as these are the shallow keyboards (will feel pain after prolonged usage), and the Mac and XPS 12/13 series have some of the best KB out there icon_rolleyes.gif

Just my 2 cents

1. Preferred brand
No particular preference. Whichever ones that don't have shite after sales service nowadays will do.

2. Budget
Not more than RM 4,000, give or take a couple hundred.

3. Usage
Occasional gaming (Kerbal Space Program, mostly, which is CPU-heavy), transcoding videos, torrent/home file server.

4. Size
14" - 15".

Other requirements:
GPU - dedicated, preferably GT 840M/750M equivalent or above.

Storage - I intend to use an SSD for the OS/boot drive and a separate 1 TB drive for data/less critical programs. So thr notebook must have either:
- A mSATA or M.2 slot, or
- A DVD drive so that I can replace the drive with a HDD caddy.

CPU - Haswell quad-core is preferred.

Cooling is also important because the notebook will be on 24/7.

Suggestions please?

Guys I could use some help. I am looking for a decent laptop which I can use for work and gaming. The vendor at LY was recommending me to get the Lenovo Z50. To be honest it looked pretty good to me.

I mean the specs were good; i5 4000 @ 1.7Ghz, 4GB DDR3 RAM, Nvidia GT820 4GB DDR3, 1TB SATA, and Windows 8.1.

Is this good enough for me and my gaming needs? Ive looked for reviews for this laptop online but so far nothing substantial.

I am just afraid that the processor won't able to cope.

Help a brother out?

4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 13"-14", touchscreen not necessary

Lenovo
Ideapad Flex 2-14, i5-4210U + Nvidia 840M +(1920x1080; IPS touch)@RM2499[2kg], 4GB, 500GB, W8.1, 2 yrs; colors: red/white

*upgrade to 3 years on-site warranty service
*upgrade to 8GB RAM and throw in an SSD and you will have the ultimate machine laugh.gif
However, don't expect the battery life to be that long and the laptop to be that cool in terms of temps; these are not traits of a thin-and-light notebook nod.gif

Iinm, the 120GB comes on top of the standard 500GB HDD man, I doubt it will be insufficient laugh.gif
Still, you could always upgrade later on, that's one of the greatest things about Illegear notebooks icon_rolleyes.gif

Anyways, better be quick, the promotion is only until early August icon_rolleyes.gif

Looking for new laptop. Appreciate the recommendations. smile.gif

1. Preferred Brand: No particular preference
2. Budget: 2-2.5k
3. Usage: Stream videos, movies, internet, light gaming, microsoft office
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 14"

I have no particular preference for brands, but I was looking into the Toshiba L40 series or ASUS A45VD series. Any other suggestions? Many thanks!

We usually recommend these for that price range icon_rolleyes.gif

Pavilion 14-V011TX, i5-4210U + Nvidia GT830M@RM1999[BeatsAudio][1.98kg], 4GB, 1TB, W8.1; colors: silver/white/red
Pavilion 14-V023TX, i7-4510U + Nvidia GT840M@RM2499[BeatsAudio][1.98kg], 4GB, 1TB, W8.1; colors: silver/white/red

Lenovo
Ideapad Flex 2-14, i5-4210U + Nvidia 840M +(1920x1080; IPS touch)@RM2499[2kg], 4GB, 500GB, W8.1, 2 yrs; colors: red/white

The Toshiba is a good choice as well if you are not very demanding in terms of gaming performance icon_rolleyes.gif
