3. Usage: Gaming, video, music, editing, MS office work etc
4. Preferred laptop/screen size : 14 or above but not too big

any good suggestion for me? I want to change my laptop for long time already, but can't decide which to go, currently I am using toshiba(about 5 years), but having overheat problem(even i use cooler) and my laptop will automatic shutdown when too hot.
Few years ago I am using dell inspiron 1420 (during uni time) but use for about 1 year+about one month then it have some problem (relate to duno what chipset i forget), i hope to get a better laptop for long term use, because don't feel want to waste $$ to keep changing to a new laptop, thanks in advance for the help^^

Hi Xiiaolove,

With your budget of between 3k to 4k, you've got quite a few options. If you're really into gaming, you can consider the brand MSI from Taiwan and their G-series notebooks. http://event.msi.com/nb/2014/my_Gseries/

For under 3k, they have the GP Series using i7 Intel processor and the Nvidia 840M GPU

For the 4k range, you can move up to the GE Series which has the same i7 Intel processor but better Nvidia GPU.

So all depends on what game titles you play and how serious is your gaming.

Happy Shopping and good luck finding what you need. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

2. Budget. Below 4.5k
3. Usage. 3D simulation, autocad and mayb gaming
4. Preferred laptop/screen size. Not less than 15.6

Hey Naturaldude,

Would you be willing to consider investing in a notebook with a Nvidia Quadro card? Those GPU's are purpose build for processing 3D graphics for CAD and 3D Modeling. Which means your rendering time and graphic processing is greatly improved.

MSI notebooks from Taiwan launched a range of Workstation notebooks with Nvidia Quadro cards ranging from K2100M to K4100M. All are independently certified by Autocad and Solidworks for compatibility and function.

Granted, the investment in a MSI Workstation will roughly double your budget but some think it's worth it as some models come with 128GB mSATA and can be further upgraded to Super Raid for greater storage speed.

Check out this website for more details. http://my.msi.com/product/workstation

Do shop around though as MSI is not the only brand that has notebook workstations but definitely more models to choose from.

Happy Shopping!

1. Preferred Brand : lenovo preferred,  but will consider others
2. Budget: 2.5k
3. Usage: Office work Microsoft Excel/word/powerpoint
4. Preferred laptop/screen size : 14 or 15 inch
5. Good keyboard would be good if included windows and Microsoft office in price
*
Hey Niksyaz,

I've recommended the MSI notebooks from Taiwan to several other users here.

With 2.5k budget, you can consider the MSI GP Series with the 2 models below.

GP60 2PE
RM2,999 for Intel i7-4710HQ or RM2,699 for Intel i5-4200H

Both come with 750GB of storage and a dedicated GPU, the nVidia Geforece GT840M with 2GB DDR3 RAM.
The storage is enough for office use but you can also upgrade to SSD through the extra mSATA slot in the notebook. This means you don't have to throw away the 2.5in HDD.
Most people shared with me that they transfer OS to the mSATA SSD and use the 2.5in HDD for storage.

MSI notebooks also come with SteelSeries keyboards so the typing experience will give you a better tactile feel. Most prefer this to the standard 'chiclet' keys.

Hope this helps. thumbup.gif laugh.gif

Hey GuN,

I believe other users in this forum have also suggested you up your budget to get a 860M GPU.

The closest would be RM4,199 for the MSI GE60 2PE. Specs below.

Intel i7-4710HQ
Nvidia GTX860M with 2GB DDR5
1TB HDD - 7200RPM
Features - Backlit SteelSeries gaming keyboard, KillerLAN, Matrix Display and upgradeable to Super Raid

1. Preferred Brand : Any, as long as is good
2. Budget: as cheap as possible, preferable less than rm1.5k
3. Usage: only online surfing and presentation. NOT for gaming, I got a gaming laptop myself.
4. Preferred laptop/screen size : any, maybe 10 inch.

Main concern is portable light weight, cheap, good casing quality because this laptop/ultrabook/convertible will be travel a lot and I scare if the casing is cheap plastic might get spoiled easily.
