hi ice-sifus,
i need some recommendation for adding a sub and amp to my current setup. my budget is <1k if possible and i prefer quality sound (i know - that one need more $$$ but that's my budget for now)
current setup in my 2004 honda city alpine hu alpine budget component front speakers oem rear speakers (i keep this off) i'm ok with the sound quality but the sysyem lacks bass. i understand i can get better sound by adding a 4 channel amp (2 channel for front comp and 2 for rear sub).
i have asked around 1/2 shops and they norm recommend me amps/subs that i have not heard of and are very expensive.
i also seen sub/amp offerred by branded co like sony/pioneer/kenwood that's much cheaper.

of cos i know good stuff doesn't comes cheap ..... just like home hifi. anyway as you can see my present ice setup is quite modest and i'm ok with it since i'm playing mp3 most of the time (good sound quality hor ), just that need more beefy bass to compliment the front component. what i'm looking for is an ok sound quality sub/amp ..... you know the sweet point where i still get quality sound. also i do not need heart thumping, ground shaking bass, just tight solid ones i have not research much into ice but i do notice alot of brands and am confuse and DO NOT want to be water fish for those ice installer. how about if i stretch my budget to rm1.5k? also can i get a good setup by just getting a 2channel amp to run the sub and leave the front comp on the HU?

instead of getting a 2ch amp just for thw woofer...i suggest getting a 4ch amp
2 for front comps and 2 for the woofer... rear speakers direct to HU

my theory for getting good bass is 300W woofer muz use more than 300W amplifier.. so tat ur amplifier can control the woofer rather than ur woofer controling ur amplifier.. (W measurement as @ rms) *plz don flame me if my theory is wrong... This post has been edited by mattchin: Aug 22 2006, 09:02 PM

with your current setup and budget to upgrade, i recommend to get a 4ch amp with a budget of good 8" sub / cheap 10" sub...
remember that a good 10" sub will cause you more interm of the sub budget and higher / better 4ch amps...

Look at all my stars!!
|
I second KidsCode's idea, though, getting a good 8" brand would probably give a better performance and there's a possibility of it going lower than the cheap 10" sub

kidcodes/grexer - ok but what are the brand and model to look out for? this is what i'm getting at - a good budget sub/amp setup - cos i dun have the budget for over the top system and my current music collection are all in mp3/wma format which don't offer high quality sound (i keep my cds at home )

What model are the Alpines in front? Probably not a good idea to match it with an Alpine amplifier of the current generation and it'll generally sound bright instead.
Maybe try to get used? Coz i supposed your budget includes installation work.
