okay, basically, i've been working on graphical LCD, with the dimension of 240*128 pixels that is.
this is not mine, but a forummer here, i will COD with him maybe on friday in LYP.

The journey

i spent my sundays and monday to work on the exact one as this.......
the modding of the graphical LCD is the hardest because i have ever attempted it and neither do i have any experience in it. But i still got to make sure that it's really cool and it will be inherit great features as well.

so i started off with how is it going to look at the first place....i got the idea from IMAC, the model which has got a half sphere as the rig and the LCD mounted on top.

the idea was fresh and good, but there are a lot of complications to it like :
- make the wiring doesnt look messy
- mount the graphical LCD nicely without dust getting into the viewing glass
- not making any scratches on the acrylic during modding
- making all edges smoothly and rounded
- and many many more !

when i completed the first one, i was totally devastated to discover that there's problem with the display vmad.gif ......thus i scrapped the whole thing and i was got really upset and discouraged by it. cry.gif cry.gif

after i rest for half a day, i began to pick up my spirit to make a new one again......and take note that i spent at least 9 hours to make a new one, and it must be done with full concentration and dedication, or else it's screwed up ! flex.gif

so, after so much struggle, i was able to present to you my idea and my design of the graphical LCD. icon_rolleyes.gif

Hope that you guys will like it. wink.gif

basically, this is the graphical LCD.
everything is built on 3mm acrylic and all the edges is rounded and smooth thumbup.gif

this is the rear part of the LCD,
as you can see in the picture, the black cable wrap is hiding some of the wires...

there's a small piece of circuit board(in brown) which holds the green SMD LEDs
basically there are 2 switches and 1 knob.
the first flip switch(on the top) is for the 2x green SMD LED while the second one is for the power for the whole LCD

and the knob is something like brightness control wink.gif

the mounts (the silver colour 'stick' in between the graphical LCD and the rear acrylic is to form a spacing between the two)

this is a side view of the graphical LCD........enjoy the pics !

okay, so many asked what can this display do......
basically, you can display anything with it as long as you know how to program what you want into the software.......
for me, i let it display my HDD space, upload and download speed, CPU speed, time/data, temperatures and so on..

OK>. that's leet.. huhuhh
btw... if u and led at the lining.. sure look more gempak..
notworthy.gif

actually i thought of doing so, but the wiring is gonna spoil the clean look in front.....
those that look nice on the LED lining thing is usually those big screens which the wiring is not that noticeble compared to this.

holy...

but i must say, why not use a color lcd instead?

i mean, u can strip off one 320x240 3" 65,535 color lcd from any old PDA (cost about 200-300 now) and have a l33ter lcd. no?
*
it's not that i cant, it's " how are you going to plug into your PC " question.
bare LCDs arent plug n play

the software that i used can do like what you said, but you need to program it.

it's not like the normal interface like drag and add....it's more towards programming (scripts)

Nice mod. I like the way you made use of spacers rather than building a whole acrylic enclosure. Very inspirational  smile.gif

How did you attach the two acrylic surfaces together? Would epoxy glue leave any 'glue-stains'? Couldn't see any indication on how you attached them together as it was crystal clear!

And how far back did your vertical stand have to be to prevent the top-heavy end of the LCD from causing the whole thing to topple over?  laugh.gif
*
actually, there is a little glue stain.......my only advice is to keep trying until you get the result you wanted...... laugh.gif laugh.gif
(tips for ya : go learn how to put water on the glass slide used for microscope rolleyes.gif )

as for the positioning, i dont know how to describe it to you....but the main thing is that the screen's position must be within the base acrylic(neck of the acrylic LCD cannot be longer than the base; it's compared horizontally).....it has got something to do with moment that prevents it from flipping, but i've used this method and it works everytime biggrin.gif

Ic ic, so because the glue is clear, all you need to do is fill up the entire surface-contact area for it to be unnoticeable.

Lol, only an engineering student would use the word 'moment'.

So you're saying that the neck's length has to be sufficiently short as to balance out the weight of the LCD screen? (to keep the moment about the x-axis as low as possible)  laugh.gif
*
it's easy to say it, but it's not that easy to do it.....

the neck length must be short and the base must be longer than the screen.
i can rotate the screen in any direction and it wont flip over.
