Veron was hardly lousy but certainly didn't fit into SAF's system. Heinze was a very good LB (defending side rather than offensive). Either way, watching the space for new Reds.
*
Didn't fit the system (or rather wasn't good enough to displace Keane/Scholes), also wasn't suited to EPL football since he didn't do any better after being sold to Chelsea. Then again, it could also be his confidence was crushed after his time with us and he couldn't rebuild it there.

He was outstanding in Italy, did well in Argentina.

That's why I think United shouldn't buy just for the sake of buying. Sahin was so gooding at Dortmund, Real bought him on a cheap but didn't play well there.

Think the likely way forward now would be signing someone like Blind. If we're VERY lucky then sign di Maria for an eye watering sum, but it's hard to see any other big name being available this late in the transfer window.

Then hopefully the team picks up steam over the season, and in January/next summer we can make serious improvements, with emphasis more towards next summer since Kayu seems to take forev..i mean 6-12 months to secure targets (Shaw, Herrera).

SAF retired, DM had a horrendous season. A lot of big names from big clubs would either want huge money OR to wait and see how the team performs under LVG before being more willing to agree to a move. Kayu and his negotiation methods can't be helping either. Considering we had all summer to get deals done (in and out) and now is the final two weeks, it seems unlikely that a lot will happen this window.

We had all summer to conclude the deal. News now is Juventus said it's too late already since they don't wanna do last minute business for a key player. Which probably means they want more money or something along those lines for all the delays. Which probably means no deal.

Key part. Cheap gambles might be ok. It's the expensive ones that need to be safer bets. It's fine paying top dollar for top talent, it's paying top dollar for promising but less established players (e.g. Lucas Moura to PSG) that can be very painful if it doesn't work out.

correctly said, di maria would probably play out another season at Real to see if there's CL for us next season before leaving. . .

i kinda think that with Rojo incoming, the lwb now have have enuff cover of left footed players? shaw, blackett, James and of course you have might joe Young as well... and dun think blind would make it as cm/dm here..

the only other incoming would probably and hopefully be strootman but that'll be in jan after assessed by LVG and team..

He could also go to PSG on loan for a season and then decide after, but the odds of that ending in our favor are slim. It's one of those now or never things.

Surprised we haven't made firm moves for de Jong and Blind. Both are relatively affordable, and improve or cover key areas the team would welcome competition in. Both are at clubs that would be relatively open to doing business with us too.

Vidal's deal is stalling because of knee injury, he is not 100% fit yet. As for Di Maria, I don't see him joining PSG for now, they have enough wide players and they will exceed the FFP if they do so. Most probably he will remain in Madrid.

Ed Woodward is a joke.
