I used to buy from Fotokem when I was in my early days of photography many years back. But when I started moving on to more expensive gear, I found Fotokem too expensive.

Eventually I went with YLCamera in Pudu and Boeing Photo in Sungei Wang. And even then, after YLCamera started to expand, their prices became less competitive and now I get almost all my gear from Boeing Photo. You can try them. But not sure whether they give very good prices to new clients or whether Fotokem have become competitive again since my last visit 4 to 5 years ago.

Well, I would say price really differ from shop to shop depend on what package you are looking for.  Some shop sell camera cheap, lens slightly more pricy, or accessory more pricy.  I bought my SEL35F18 for RM999 last month during the hari raya promo at fotokem in lowyat (price was cheap cause I bought the Sony A6000 from them as well).  Before committing to the purchase, I personally visited 8 camera shops ( within lowyat, sungei wang, mid valley), and called up two shops (yl, digitalmania and another japanese sounding website).  Standard camera with kitlens price all the shops are roughly the same.  But with package certain shops can do better.  So, to find the cheapest, one just have to go do the extra footwork.

in my case of shopping, its a little different. i wouldnt skimp a place for 50 ringgit cheaper, for the reason, i rather give the sale person a little extra to earn(commission?)... while i bully him kao kao... ok, im joking bout bully.... i make fun of the sale person in a good way, so i will leave a deep impression(charisma skill), then when i return and he'd recognize me... and he will automatically give me best price without asking. a few more visit and he will introduce to other sale person or maybe manager. soon, i'll be VIP of the shop with automatic best discount. but i haven been hauling anything (big) since nov 2012... only battery (best price rm150 type M)

i dont know if there is any company come close or actually has the fullcolor table of the Sony raw data file... but its just color, a lot photographer will edit or use present to adjust the color effect at the end of day, just play around more it could create new style or even create a signature style like kenhui... where is stanley anyway? haven seen any of his post lately....

the ARW file, are Proprietary format to Sony. (same as crw for canon and nef for nikon)... they do not release the codes to public, and require very special license to use the codes. Only the Original Software develop by the own company will have full support to the ARW file. from a proper exposure control, to Color Profile, to Dynamic range control, to picture effect (canon)

Adobe does not have the license to operate ARW files, so adobe uses the closest color palettes chart to read them. hence you will Never get Sony color out from 3rd party software. so does canon and nikon, which many, even pro photographer doesnt notice that, only pure editors know only... so they operate on default 'flat/neutral' tone and adjust the color to their liking (split toning). very advance editing methods.

(that the reason i dont shoot raw, i shoot jpeg and learn to process the jpeg at its limit)

SEL35F18 vs SEL50F18.
Which one is better in terms of IQ?
Main concern is overall sharpness and purple fringing.

My first thought, 35mm is better for me as it's more compact and shorter focal length.
Yes it is a bit pricey compare to the 50mm, but the gap is not that big.

But if the 50mm's IQ is better overall, I'll go for the 50.

Dear Pay Ng. its not angle of light, but the angle of light wavelength. polarizer works with wavelength, not angle of light dude. wavelength is under Physics.... due to the angle of wavelength travels from the side of the lens angle, the polarizer were unable to cut off the angle of wavelength, hence it did not cut off the light as it suppose to.

as for the Variable ND, u will get X-crosses effect at certain angle on UWA due to the angle of light wavelength escape the polarizing.

note: not aiming at you, but in general, why does ppl think 16-20mm is comparable to a 10-18 ultra wide angle? totally diff thing, totally diff effect, totally diff impact on the photo.

hmm.. true.. a6000 only have mode dial right? hopefully this year end have something new, like A6100 with A7R dial on the body.  

ed, only us who come from A-mount will appreciate external flash. To us, EVF and hotshoe come 1st. To them as come from p&s, they will want the touchscreen, we would prefer direct straight forward buttons or dials for instant access to fucntions. Dont push them too hard.

Hey there guys and gals. It's been a while since I was last here. Seems the family has grown... considerably... large.

It's wonderful that Sony has FINALLY made my greatest dream come true: the FF Nex, though in its current form it's still very much a unattainable luxury for me - unless I sell a kidney or something. Hopefully Sony comes up with an A6 or something for us poor mortals.

That said, I'm now keen on getting a new digital body, especially now that ColorDotCom has closed up shop (*cry*). Eyeing either a cheap second hand Nex6/Nex7 or an A6000, either new of second hand.

So, besides much improved controls,  better battery life , faster AF and the xbionz - am I gonna miss much if I skip the A6000? Especially when my last experience with a DSLR was with the venerable A200?

I'm primarily gonna do still photography (landscape, archie, street, product shots, travel) mostly with MF legacy lenses and maybe sometimes with the kit lens or a 35mm prime of some sort (either the Sony 35 or the Zeiss, whichever comes up cheaper on the used market lol) - so "faster AF", "more AF points"  and "a control system that isn't buried in menus" aren't really must-haves for me.

I'm looking to spend 4k max, much less if possible - especially as there's the accessories to consider too: batteries, lens-adapters, filtes, straps.

So, old Nex6/7 + cash for extra stuff or A6000?

Sounds like it. New E mount lenses. Does the A6000 and A7 use E mount? I don't know. Haven't been following the latest for awhile. If yes then new Zeiss lenses for them.
