play with my a6000 with 16-70z for few weeks now
i don't know if anybody share my frustration but i felt sony a6000 were not designed by photographer but bunch of idiot engineers who knows nothing about photography and whose goals were just to crammed as much features into the camera as possible without really know how to use them

i'm no pro-photographer(nor wannabe).i'm jpeg shooters (no,don't suggest raw to me),and here's my quirks about a6000 that i hope fellow forumers can help me with

1) lock on focus (not tracking) work like shit, the camera doesn't respect your "lock-on" area,rather the lock square just resize,expand,contract and run away from your selected area according to its own mind,focus on off center subject is a pain in the arse with this camera. my 3 years old xz-1 has muuuuch better lock on focus than this shit

2) face detection feature will overwrite your chosen metering mode and switch to centre/spot weighted metering whenever it detect a face. you'll always end up with overexpose image if background is brighter than subject, auto exposure also become very erratic under this situation. none of my other old camera does this shit

3) soft skin features doesn't work with burst mode,happy pressing on shutter button and missing shots.my xz-1 does this with burst mode. it also doesn't work without face detection turn on,so happy overexpose and missing shots.

4) face detection lock on face 50% of the time if i'm lucky. camera phone does this better

5)flexible spot focus missing the lock on focus,unless u go in function menu to reactivate everytime u want to lock on something

6) power saving mode doesn't work with remote control turn on,why? can't i just set to longer sleep time if the concern is remote can't wake the camera up?

7) camera menu messy as cow shit

i don't understand sony has so many restriction on all their features
this is just part of my complain,has dozens more but i can't recall them all,wonder if anybody has any work around on this

its not,it is common "features",i believe even a99 has it
try face recognition with backlit background,then you'll have the same lemon

when you free, please do a backlit test for comparison.

Have enough to pack it now. But want keep spare money in case of emergency.

Still hoping for a 35 or 50 f1.8 lens. But it's really expensive la. More than half the price of A6000 kit. Let's see if there's any good deals in any of the IT fairs here. Few weeks ago got one fair, Olympus giving extra prime lens that costs over 500SGD on top of kit lens(es) with freebies like dual 32GB card. Samsung on the other hand included free tablet with purchase of their camera. If can get A6000 with some similar offer it's really nice

your cheery picture, was it uing macro mode? f3.5 is not that big, but the bokeh achieved is yummy

i dun think normal std kit lens can achive like this. i think because of macro la.

see the plate oso starts to blur on edge. normal lens cannot one. sure blur the whole thing.

All I know is the Flickr doesn't compress pics or otherwise do funky things to whatever you upload onto it. Other than that your guess is as good as mine.

I only use Flickr to store my online portfolio. For sharing I prefer the no-nonsense-ness of imgur because on my phone (which I use to surf 90% of the time), Flickr doesn't give me the bbcode option for forums.

It's true that you can't go past your brightest aperture setting but you seldom do really, really need it.

My 50mm for instance, wide open at f1.4 it's not as sharp as it is at f2. So I don't go to f1.4

I really use it most at f2.8 which I find to be very good for portraits but that's on my FF body of course.

I would think if you have an f2.8 lens, it's plenty good if it's sharp enough wide open. Like the Sony's SAL 85mm f2.8 lens. This is really a plastic fantastic lens if you are a full frame user. Feels like a toy and looks like a toy even but it performs great wide open and that's where it matters. It costs almost 5 times less than the Zeiss 85mm f1.4 but performs up to 80% of the Zeiss. It loses on contrast (maybe) and Zeiss colours with the Zeiss having a 2 stops brighter aperture but hey, I really, really can't complain. Extra bonus is that it's small and light and can fit in your front pants pockets!

Modern bodies nowadays chew high ISO for breakfast. You can put it to ISO 1600 and 3200 with no problems. So f2.8 and available light is no issue.

Guys, what mode you always shoot with your camera? M, S, A, P?? I dont quite understand the Program Mode in my Nex-5R.

Like everybody else here, I'm definitely an A person - but I'm beginning to wanna try setting up the Memory Recall slots on the PASM dial.

As for shooting at 3200, I say better noise than missing the shot.

That said, I've found that in normally lighted indoor situations with an f4 (or more) OSS lens, you can make do with setting auto ISO up to 1600 if the noise is too much for you at 3200 - the OSS keeps things steady up to 1/10-1/4 (with jitter-free hands of course)..

Under worse conditions, however, even 1600 is generally not enough already, even with OSS. If you shoot a lot indoors you might wanna invest in a flash to be able to use lower ISOs and thus get better pic quality.

OR... when you're forced to shoot at 3200 and you're totally bothered by the noise, you can always convert to B&W (afterwards or in camera using RAW + JPG with the BW picture style) and pretend it's film grain lol. At least details are still not smeared much at 3200 (compared to my old A200 - it already turned everything to flat pastel by 1600).

Now i sold off mai A77, now itching for A77MK2, but A6000 seems to have good image reviews...

Now wondering between A6000 and A77MK2, tho am leaning towards A77MK2 due to the Alpha lens i have in my drybox (1650F2.8, 16105, 70210 Beercan, and 50F1.7)....
