I make it a point to read books I bought in entirety, including the likes of Twilight and 50 Shades of Grey. I believe I can't criticize any book legitimately without first reading them cover to cover.

Of course, you don't have to consume fecal matters to know it is shit. But how do you know for sure how they taste like without tasting them?

I don't hate anyone who can't finish books they don't like. I don't finish food I don't like too. It's just a matter of expectation: if I knew it's going to be shitty to begin with, then I'm more open to the idea of finishing it.

That said, i'm guilty of not finishing some books... I just couldn't go on reading somehow...

There were a couple of books that I actualyl nodded off while reading it... those I never finish.

Usually I picked them off some garage sales for ridiculously low prices like a buck each....

both about 1/3

My problem would be getting too many books at the same time or the new-ones keep on coming in. Thus, some books are left there. Sometimes I restart the books when I actually feel like completing them.

It really depends. Some books are just bad and they will be in the DNF shelf forever. XD

Sometimes if the plot is disturbing I just can't continue reading it. I'm more into romance genres and sometimes some books actually involve rape or some have cheating in them. So I just can't go on. sweat.gif

Even though I like 50 shades of grey I couldn't finish the trilogy, just the first book cause it seemed a bit unrealistic.

Halfway through the 3rd book of "The Orphan Trilogy" I grew tired of the author's writing style.

If I don't like the Author's writing style or the setting the book is in, I won't finish reading the book unless there's something I really want to find out.

For example, I hated Twilight.. I hated her writing style, I hated her love triangles but I still finished reading it because I wanted to find out what Bellas power was. Was it worth it?... no not really. But at least I can criticize the books with more authority having read the whole bloody thing.

I used to have the habit of never not finishing a book I own or started.

But with so many titles available, I eventually realise I need to be selective with what I read so I can read more of what I want and put down books that I feel doesn't entertain or benefit me.

for me, finishing a book is critical so that when people ask you for your opinion on that particular book, i could actually explain to them whether i liked it or not. some books really tests my patience and i always force myself to finish it from cover to cover, oh the pain.

however, some books starts off real shitty but then it gets really good in the middle and ends with a bang! or vice versa.
so yeah, finish that book, if you like it, keep it, if not, donate the book to someone else, maybe it could be their best cup of tea!

Back then I used to finish every book I've bought or borrowed. Mostly its because I "felt bad if I didn't finish the book". Now? I can't be bothered completing it if it's boring AF though... Inheritance by Paolini has been sitting on my shelf for years, left at 55% complete lol. What a waste of printing paper. And he's planning to go for a book 6 too lmao RIP
