so i started university,
and outside have one starbuck store
and since i have to pass-by there
i thought why not try starbuck.

so yesterday i look through the menu
and the naming was confusing (i tiap tiap minum nescafe je)
so i just go with a dark mocha, tall

so i went to the counter and tell the barista what i want
and he said "you sure ? don't want the large one ?"

and i said "wad ?"

"ya" he said "we got large one,
you want to see the cups ? "

and i said ya

so he showed me one large and tall cup
and because got people lining up,
i just go with the large one

then he ask "want whip cream ?"

ya, confusingly

"chocolate chip ? "

again, ya, confusingly.
and i pay via starbuck card

and waited, it was quick
take a sip, biasa je rase
maybe because i drink too much chocalate drinks ?

BUT i did tried it caffe latte few weeks back,
i was in heaven innocent.gif

anyway, the point is
how many cup size are there ?
cause i think they don't put all of their cup size on the menu

and can i order custom drinks ?
cause i saw a lot of people drinks are different from the menu and the monthly special.

i always think "where do that drinks came from ? blink.gif " lol

please icon_question.gif
i memang a noob in starbuck but i'm a <strike>coffee</strike> kopitiam lover tongue.gif

I've worked as a barista long time ago so my memory abit hazy.. the sizes should be tall, grande, venti. The smallest is the espresso cup. For regular drinks tall is the smallest, venti is the largest.

You usually order by size, drink name and any additional toppings e.g. "grande hot chocolate with whipped cream". Drinks itself are pretty customizable, you can tell them how many pumps you want from the syrup, chips, whipped cream, etc.

oh it seems they have short as well.. so it should be short > tall > grande > venti
Its weird cause i really dont remember the short cup biggrin.gif

I searched online and seems the full range of sizes are demi (espresso size) > short > tall > grande > venti > trenta (introduced in 2011).
But i dont think they have trenta here.. i've never seen it.

why so many ppl say starbuck? It is starbucks with an s behind.

And yeah..it is overpriced coffee. But due to the branding and quality, lots of people go for it. Even me. For me, I only drink the ice blended. Cause those you cannot buy outside. The local ones like chatime (coffee) or old town's ice blended coffee cannot compare to starbucks and CBTL.

I tried nearly all the taiwan and coffee shops that sell ice blended coffee. Only starbucks and coffeebean is up to standard. The rest...bleh.

Still, they are overpriced. Due to USD conversion. So we have to make do with good coffees with starbucks or drink less quality coffee like old town, hometown and so on. Until someone can open up a copy cat to malaysian standard.

The espresso cup is the size of a shot glass, very small. Its not meant to be drunk slowly, the way to drink it is once the barista serves it to you, you're supposed to down it within 10 seconds (that's what they taught me during training) to keep the flavor.

Im pretty sure there are only those sizes mentioned, i dont recall there being any more..

Its up to you really, btw some drinks are made using the espresso shot, e.g. the latte. But of course mixing it with another drink will make it lose its intended flavor.

instead of spending so much at starbucks or coffee bean... rotate to other cafe's too! they r similar in prices...

muffins in coffee beans is good?! actually starbucks is much better but that is like last year. i think starbucks have changed baker that their muffins now r smaller compare to years ago...

i like san francisco croissang sandwich but that has shrunk too. sigh.

instead of spending so much at starbucks or coffee bean... rotate to other cafe's too! they r similar in prices...

muffins in coffee beans is good?! actually starbucks is much better but that is like last year. i think starbucks have changed baker that their muffins now r smaller compare to years ago...

i like san francisco croissang sandwich but that has shrunk too. sigh.

People who prefer starbucks are mostly for the brand, most genuine coffee connoisseurs go for authentic italian.

Coffee in general is overpriced in Msia due to our currency and exchange rate (the actual commodity price does not change across the globe).

And also combined with the fact that ppl need an AP to import green unroasted beans into Msia, which actually doesnt help to increase competitiveness in the industry.

Actually 'expensive' or not depends on the type of coffee.
Arabica is generally more expensive than Robusta but non-specialty grade Arabica is actually not expensive at all.
Even if it's specialty grade, the reason it's expensive here is because of our currency. sad.gif

If you start enjoying starbucks, you'll be delighted that there are many other independent cafe these days serving even better coffee with nicer ambiance, and sometimes much cheaper as well.

I love the booming coffee culture in Malaysia.

people buy starbucks as a lifestyle now
indeed 8 out of 10 people who buy starbucks will take a picture of it or at least check-in there and post it to social media
imo starbucks sells lifestyle and services instead of coffee
teeangers would love to meetup at starbucks and have a chit chat there and can stay there for hours (some also do their assignments or working stuff there)

First of all, Starbucks is a rip off. I go there once and ordered 2 Iced Caramel Mochiatto and Iced Mocha...bla bla bla... and it costed me around RM30.00 for a single day. So after that I never went there ever again.

However, there're 3 sizes, Tall (smallest of cups), Grade (Medium), and Venti (Largest).

Maybe I should visit there once in a while.

First, you need to have a blender and the correct ingredients for the drink. I.e espresso machine, frappe powder/liquid, sweet syrups/sauces etc, ice

one shot on various cafe is around RM8-9, additional shot to your drink would probably cost RM1-2.

I'm speaking of different cafe. Usually I would add a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the expresso just to make affogato. smile.gif

Starbucks has 105 shops in Malaysia now, they have a policy of opening 20 shops every year. Source: BFM Radio this morning.

I bought 250g SB coffee bean few days ago and kept by SB.

Yesterday, I try my first pourover coffee in my Grande tumbler at no charges.

I thought most of SB coffee lovers/customers should know as the barista told me they do serve their regular customer this way.

starbucks can be very confusing! I usually stick with dbl espresso but my wife gets more creative so it is a bit confusing at times! Here in the caribbean they do not customize drinks as much as in the US i think! I sae pics in America of ppl asking for drinks with almond milk, banana and protein shake...is it true!?

I bought 250g SB coffee bean few days ago and kept by SB.

Yesterday, I try my first pourover coffee in my Grande tumbler at no charges.

I thought most of SB coffee lovers/customers should know as the barista told me they do serve their regular customer this way.

must be done only in your area.
U cannot do that in USA or their flagship store in seattle.

Starbucks is overrated and expensive... Starbucks near my office got 20% off for staff but i've never even drank once ever since working here lel

Agree with this, the fact is starbucks now cost almost rm20 per cup on their frap if you order 2 would easily cost around close to rm40-50.... you can easily get rm26 for the bag of 350 gram beans and rm15 for 2 box milk make almost 25 cup of latte coffee with it.... Generally i don miss much about starbucks but i rather prefer coffee beans

I remember going to starbucks in Bangsar around 1998(?) when I was briefly studying at UM - I can't believe that this purveyor of milked down coffee has been here for nearly 20 years now...

Good thing these days there are much better 3rd wave alternatives.

Like my post earlier, you can buy Starbucks coffee bean, the staff can help you to keep the bean bag, they can make pour over coffee whenever you need at FOC. I have no time to brew myself during working day, so they can help me to do this, so far I enjoy their service.

p/s: I am not the fans of drinking fancy frappucino, they are too sweet. I drink sugarless black coffee, then I can compare the variety of beans.
