Back then when I was a kid, lots of my kampungmen played mercun like no tomorrow. They even got meriam besi at that time and I played together with them. Nothing happened. Unlike kids nowadays.

Moral of the story: don't hold the mercun if your hand is not fast enough to throw the mercun right after you lit it.
