hi princess,

here's the link:
http://www.ikea.com/my/en/catalog/products/10227079/

I haven't had time to check out the real things yet but it would be good if they are transparent/ semi-transparent.

Thanks, the white one looks really good.

In the midst of making up the pallet bed frame, many have questions if the wood is treated, aren't you afraid of termites etc. These wood are treated, and there's way to differentiate the pallets whether they're safe to use, just Google up and read them. We will be painting them with glazing paint bought from Ikea.
Yes, you're supposed to sand these pallets first and not just put them together and use like that.

Glazing paint from Ikea description:
RM19.90 for 0.375L
Makes the surface of untreated wood more durable, more hardwearing and personal.

Here's the half complete bed frame

Found the bed frame a bit flimsy so we added 12 legs instead of the initial 8 legs.

Where to buy these metal legs? Comes in 2 different height, we chose the lower ones which the height is just nice.
RM30 for 4 pieces. You will need to head to Ikea's bedding section and ask the SA to issue a invoice to you, pay at the counter then only collect at the customer service area. We didn't use the screw they provided, because they're a bit too small to be mounted on the pallet.Just go to hardware shops and ask for bigger ones at RM2 per piece.

Next question is how to put these pallets and saw them accordingly?
Of course, first take the measurements. Then you will need a Jigsaw to cut the wood.
Then you need to drill holes and place metal rods across two wood planks to hold both together, repeat for all the rest to secure of all them together.

Just like the rod below, customised in hardware stores. Metal rod across both pallets and 2 nuts locking them together.
Kinda hard to explain because I forgot to take photos.

You're the typical type of forumer who thinks hiding behind the screen and you can just say whatever shit you want on the forum, not useful but full of craps. I think you should go bcome politician, suits you very well.

Some people are just a pain in the ass. Since they like to be jealous, let them be la.
Yea, budget might be one of the reason, but sure take lots of hassle to do such a bed.

Many asked why the hassle? Why the hardwork? A bedframe is pretty cheap?

1. My biggest reason would be my other half and I enjoys doing DIY (provided if we have the luxury of time), at least ppl don't enter our house feeling familiar that they're coming into an Ikea showroom.
2. Other reason would be the effort and hardwork that we put into doing all these actually builds a vital part of the relationship. A generic bed frame vs the one that we built together, sure gives us much memories and also how we could share with our kids in future, maybe?
3. Takes a lot of patience, and ideas. Hence sharing our ideas here, hope to inspire others (if only they share the same passion).
4. Sense of achievement in life, besides work etc. Feels good to get something done with your own hands.
5. Something that money can't buy. (from how we move the pallets, such a tiny girl like me, from drawing up the idea, visiting ikea sourcing for items, sanding the pallets and putting them in one piece). Life's not all about having sex, referring to some retards who thinks that's the main purpose of the bed. I feel so sorry for his other half.

I am sorry if my post insulted you. Just want to know your reason to do the hassle where you can get cheaper option. If you think you can bring memories, paint the walls with your hubby also can create memories. But sex is important in married life, not having sex cannot have children ma. Sex is legal if u are married and not taboo.

Hi Princess, haven't been posting here but have been keeping tabs on what's happening. Keep the fire going notworthy.gif

Agreed, as a novice in fixing things DIY myself, the sense of satisfaction in having to learn new things is priceless. Your partner is very lucky to have someone like you who likes DIY drool.gif instead of the usual movies, makan etc. I think this way is a lot more productive and makes each other appreciate more.

lastly the memories of having built something from scratch together, is just priceless.. thumbup.gif

Not only we learned throughout the journey, but they're really really priceless. I think it's more of I'm very lucky to have him who make my dreams come true. I love doing DIY but I'm lack of the concept and idea part. He have all the ideas in putting things together

Hehe movies and makan comes as a compliment when we need to take a break smile.gif

Updates on filling the pallet bedframe

user posted image

user posted image

We decided to buy some wood and fill them up because even the normal bed frame that I have at home when I flip the mattress I realised that there's lines when the gap is huge, but there's still a need to give some air flow below.

Next, will have to paint these white

Hope that they will look good smile.gif
