not every part of japan need car...
most of the places is accessible by train... or legs tongue.gif
*
yes, we plan go nikko, that need use jr pass, which 8000 yen x 2
and need follow the train/bus schedule, so i try to rent a car for 12 hours, it only cost 8000 yen +-
and yes, we need petrol and toll fee, but we can follow our schedule, no need worry the bus/train schedule

japan is the nice place to visit, this is my third time! biggrin.gif

Hi quick question, anyone know if I can get away with renting a car without an International Driver's license, or I must have one before I can rent a car in Japan?
*
just go jpj apply it, somebody say it cost RM150 and just fill up the form
because u just use it 1 time, no need go for the REAL international driver's license
and japan is right hand drive, so should not be a problem la

Please Refer to Page 1 Nikko Section.
*

What are you talking about  ada kah such thing as "real" or "not real"? The rm150 at JPJ one IS the real international driver's permit.
*
The REAL one mean u need to take the test with left and right side drive, once you get it
you can go overseas and driving anytime you want

while this only just a permit you can use at some period of time only

City drive max 90km. Because of traffic Jam. But Japan Petrol station and car park all got charging station
Expensive.  It dont have engine. So no petrol needed. Need pay electrical bill.  That car I brought at 4.2 million Yen.  Car installment was part of burden.

I only used car when needed only. Taking Train still more best...alot pretty girl yo
*
kampung like nikko also can charge anywhere??
and 30 min can charge to 80% rite?

i'm a travel NOOB...
(never been to oversea.... been to indonesia, but i don't think that count as oversea)

anyway, any good place to recommend for a non-japanese (only know some basic vocab, less then 50 words) speaker...

do you guys think,
-it's better to bring a japanese speaker
OR
-can we just got by with a pocket translator(i heard there's a few book shop in the airport selling those, and quite cheap) or google translate (need a working internet plan in japan, not always reliable)
*
just speaker really broken english to them will do, no need worry language problem
they dont know how to talk, they will bring you to the location

i once ask that ppl where the JR station, they bring we to there about 5 min far

Got do test with left and right side meh? I just ask AAM to apply for me, pay them and get my IDL last time. Validity period is 1 year. How long is the validity period if do the test? And where can I do this test?

So confirm need IDL issue by JPJ to drive in Japan right? Even with the new Malaysian driving license, still need IDL ah?
You'll be fine. Just learn a few Japanese phrases, numbers, and maybe food. Get a few Japanese phrases apps and you are good to go.

I hardly know any Japanese, pick up a few words here and there from watching anime last time. Now attending some basic Japanese classes to learn how to read a bit bit. Survive 2 trips to Japan and planning another few more in the future.
Why no do homework before go Japan?
*
i think urs is IDP its valid only 1 year
IDL need take exam and valid very long time
