Question, how expensive are things like groceries in Tokyo/Osaka? Things like uncooked rice, breads and eggs?

QUOTE(RegentCid @ Jul 7 2014, 08:04 PM) conclusion expensive. I was sort of thinking of bringing in things like those fried rice paste and brahim's chicken curry and such to cook when we're in the house, hence the question. Was thinking of buying things like rice, eggs or bread there. If rice is too expensive there, I'll probably just bring a small 1kg pack to start off with from here.300 yen are Rm10. Everything you mention in Malaysia can get double to triple quantity Plus u didnt add 8% sales tax . This post has been edited by air_mood: Jul 7 2014, 11:19 PM |

Anyone has experience of booking flypeach flights thru the likes of Expedia? Want to book for a flight from Tokyo to Osaka, it's cheaper than the official website. Not able to add baggage onto it though. Is it possible for me to add for baggage later on flypeach's website using the booking reference that will be given??

Finalized my bookings. All that left is for looking for a cheap place to stay for 2 days in Osaka from 7/9 to 9/9. Mostly a theme park oriented trip. Party of 4 until the 6th, then party of 2.
1/9 - Fly off from KL to Haneda. Reaching Haneda at night so will just probably sleep at the airport benches. 2/9 - Renting the shower room in Haneda to freshen up. Taking a bus from Haneda to Fuji-Q at 6+ am, reaching about 930 for the haunted hospital thingy. Will probably be there until 2 or so before coming back to Tokyo. Check in that go for a walkabout, probably around Shibuya or so as we're staying in an apartment near there. 3/9 - Tokyo Disneysea 4/9 - Tokyo Disneyland 5/9 - Free day in Tokyo, no real idea yet where we're going. Meiji Castle, Shinjuku, Harajuku, Roppongi most likely. 6/9 - Morning flight via Peach to Osaka. Free day in Osaka. Maybe going Dotonbori and the likes. No real idea on what to in Osaka to be honest. Probably sightseeing. 7/9 - Another free day in Osaka without any real plans yet. 2 friends leaving on the evening flight back to KL, 2 of us still staying. 8/9 - Universal Studios Japan 9/9 - Loiter around Osaka before leaving back to KL in the evening. Staying in houses booked thru on AirBNB throughout our stay in Tokyo and for the 6th in Osaka. Looking for another apartment to stay in Osaka for 2 for the last 2 days. Judging by our travels, there's really no daily train pass or something like that to suits us right? I would assume it's better to just get the PASMO or ICOCA? Any suggestions on where we should probably go in Osaka to fill up the time? |

QUOTE(RegentCid @ Aug 1 2014, 05:44 PM) Camping bags and a small bag for food. That's the plan. I actually just called them ad the person on the phone mentioned that there's a luggage storage area at the entrance for 500 yen. Person spoke limited English though so going to send them an email just to be sure. My other option was going to Shinjuku from the airport and getting a bus there to Fuji Q. Being a bus terminal I was sort of assuming that they will have luggage storing areas. Any other way you would suggest? We will actually be staying in an apartment near Shibuya. Was also exploring the option of going to Gotemba from the theme park but not entirely sure yet how convenient that is going to be. |

Quick question. Since I have the afternoon to night part of Sunday free and the morning up to say noon part free on Tuesday, is it worth the trouble to go to say Kyoto on the Sunday and Kobe on the Tuesday? Research shows it's a short train trip so was thinking of just going and loitering about. Haven't really checked on what exactly to see in Kyoto/Kobe yet. Should I consider Nara instead?

I was planning to travel alone in October, when I kinda thought it would be less hot. A friend had a trip planned in September though and invited me to tag along. Did Hong Kong alone though.

On my itinerary, I mentioned that I have the whole Friday free for loitering around Tokyo. Was suggested by a friend to take the daily JR pass for around 700 yen or so which she says covers the Yamanote line for the whole day and her mentioning it covers Shinjuku, Shibuya, Harajuku, Asakusa and the likes, fit for a day of loitering. Did a bit of googling and I would assume what she meant was the JR Tokunai Pass for 750 yen. Looks and sounds kinda OK to me. Is there any drawbacks to this that I am not aware of?

1 question. Am already here in Tokyo, staying near Aoyama Dori, about 10 minutes walk from Shibuya crossing. Any idea if there's any supermarket here? I'm trying to look for one to buy things like eggs, oil, rice and the likes. No luck so far with Lawson, 7e and Family Mart around here and near Shibuya station, they don't seem to be carrying them.

Just got back from my trip to Japan last night via Osaka. Enjoyed thoroughly in Tokyo and Osaka. Plenty of walking and legs are killing me. Managed to squeeze in half day trips to Kyoto and Kobe as well.
Will be back as I got unfinished business in USJ and Disney Parks. Harry Potter ride for example I missed out on as the queue was a whopping 220 minutes. Tasted Butterbeer though. The crowd in Japanese them parks are crazy to all 4 parks I've been to i.e. Tokyo Disneysea, Tokyo Disneyland, Fuji-Q Highland and Universal Studios Japan. So, so, so many people. The queue was 75 minutes on the Winnie The Pooh ride for example. Crazy. Still enjoyed my time there in general. Google Translate app was a lot of help. Will definitely be back, if my health permits. QUOTE(RegentCid @ Sep 10 2014, 07:24 PM) That's the plan! 1 question though, is that the norm with Japanese theme parks?? There is no such thing as a peak and non peak season? Did my research before going and found out that the school semester started on September 1st hence the expectation of a lesser crowd. Or did I get that wrong? |

QUOTE(RegentCid @ Sep 10 2014, 08:14 PM) It always full of people. Japan has population of 127 Million. Malaysia just 30 Million. So it always full of People. Plus those tourist....... Ahh OK. Saw loads of kids in school uniforms as well. Thought those were schoolkids with annual passes playing truant. Well, next time then!! Hopefully at a cooler time. The heat was punishing in Tokyo and Osaka. Kobe was cooler, Kyoto was raining. |

Forgot to mention, I found the Haunted Hospital in Fuji-Q to be extremely disappointing. There was probably 3-4 scare attempts on the group of 4 of us throughout the walkthrough. Being in USS haunted house before, there was plenty of gaps/spaces and doorways that I was expecting the "ghosts' to pop out from but they didn't. Probably got bored seeing a group of 4 guys. And for the record, I did not run or anything. I have a dodgy knee, so running was out of the questions. Maybe if I had ran, they would probably be more inclined to chase after me.

QUOTE(RegentCid @ Sep 11 2014, 07:39 PM) Wanted to go alone, they didn't allow. Anyways. I headed up the pax. Let's just say I was expecting more. I saw the "ghosts" probably around 4-5 times. Walking through, I saw loads of gaps near the floors, by the doorway that I was expecting them to pop out from, but didn't. The first 2 that I saw popped out from behind doors if I recall. There was 1 that came from under a counter. Like I said, I was expecting better like the scare houses in Universal Studios considering the reviews I've read about the place. The local people seem to enjoy them though. Probably have to immerse myself more with the running and being chased and all that to enjoy it more probably. |

QUOTE(yvonnesoo @ Sep 18 2014, 04:29 PM) if no sleep some might can't stand and feel tired since after long flight.. My flight was on a Monday, took me about 30-40 minutes to clear the immigration as there were a few flights arriving around the same time. So, had a drink at Cardinal Cafe or something and slept on the benches. Woke up to pray at the prayer room around 345am, slept again at the benches. Woke up around 530, paid 1030yen at the shower room for a 30 minute shower to freshen up before leaving the airport. To note that my trip was a trip of a group of 4 friends who are single. Not suitable for families. This post has been edited by air_mood: Sep 20 2014, 02:22 PM |
