Does anyone have any experience with transfering money from Malaysia to Japan? Are there any reasonable method that has the lowest transaction fee and possibly, obtaining the funds less than a month's time? I am looking to transfer about RM 2000 to myself in Japan since I will be studying there.

I have looked at various methods like Paypal, Foreign TT, Banker's Draft, Traveller's Cheque, 7-11 ATM withdrawal. Paypal and Foreign TT is really expensive. Banker's Draft from local banks takes up to 4 weeks to clear, which might not be the best idea. I am not very sure about Traveller's Cheque acceptance in Japan. Finally for 7-11 ATM withdrawal using a Maybank Visa Debit card, there has been no review on usage from Malaysia to Japan exchange rate. Some sites have claimed that the rates are good, but most of them deal in USD, AUD and EUR currency.

Advice is highly appreciated.

RM2,000? Why not carry the cash? Is there a cash limit?

I will be bringing some by cash, about 3.5k and the remaining 2k I will be using taking it only when I need to. There's no cash limit as far as I know. The only thing is there is a declaration if you exceed a certain amount.
