Hi Guys, i'm back. I have just upgraded my RAM to another 1Gb...so i now have 1.5Gb in my MacBook Pro. The RAM i upgraded is a Kingston DDR2 KVR667. Cost : RM320/- at LYP.

Tested it for a few days now...and i am running on basic apps like Office 2004 and the original MAC OS Tiger...no problem so far. I use my notebook for at least 6 hours continuously...and its fine.

Will update you guys if anything comes along.

Well, the shop did allow me to try out first and even waited for the machine to warm up as he says most of the time problem will occur when the machine is hot.

Well so far no problem as i am using the notebook almost 8 hours a day. The shop was Sri Computer at LYP and the ram i bought was Kingston 1Gb DDR2-667 CL5 SODIMM ...rm320.

you'll see overall improvement once u add more RAM.
If you dont do it now, you can always hold on till u comfortable to do so.
RAM is getting cheaper as we move on.

Yes & No, that is Mac Pro that you MUST have a matching pair. Macbook see this:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303721

QUOTE
Depending on the configuration of the MacBook you purchased, both memory slots may already be full. The maximum amount of memory you can install in your MacBook is 2 GB (using 1 GB DIMMs in both memory slots).

Note: For best performance, fill both memory slots, installing an equal memory module in each slot.

which Apple didnt say you must have a matching pair. u can always mix brand. but it depends on ur luck.

Is there a big difference in performance if we use matching pair of rams compared to using non-matching pairs?

I tried my friend's macbook. It's the white macbook that is 1.8Ghz and 512MB of ram, just normal usage of the laptop is slow. Like websurfing can notice that is is slow. If run browser with msn messenger chatting at the same time also slow, click on software to run, the start up time also slow. The worst is to click to run office. Super slow. I wonder, I have always been a pc user. Is this slow due to the lack of ram as the software used in macos is ram hungry? My friend not yet install XP on his macboook yet, so I don't get to try how the macbook response in XP environment. Would adding a ram help or boosting the CPU speed? I like the macbook and thinking of getting one. After trying with it, i like the interface and all, but just hate it as it is slow and makes me have to wait for every execution.

Actually it is not so slow like you said. From my experience with my girl's MB, with 512MB RAM, everything runt just fine, but not too slow. Some applicatio surely takes time to open but the icon in the dock not bouncing until 10 times, the longest, I tried is Photoshop and Office, around 8 to 9 bouncing icon smile.gif

That's it, the bouncing thing, it's roughly like 5 to 7 bounces for msn messenger main window to pop out. that is like 4 to 6 seconds. My windows takes around 2 secs for the main window of msn to pop out after clicking. Though some of you may find that extra 3 to 4 secs is negligible, I find it annoying. To change from one window to the other, say msn chat window to web browser is takes the screen around 1 sec to change it, but in windows, it changes immediately. Those type of things we do everytime, and imagine and increase in 1 sec delay for each stuff.

Even when there's typo error, the backspace speed is notably slower. I think most of those who had used windows would notice it. Though it's like very slightly, but I can feel it. Does anyone share my same experience out there?

Lastly, does increasing ram or having a higher clock speed cpu for macbook solve this problem? I like macbook very much, but the slight lag in speed is annoying me.

i traded it in for chicken feed la dude... less than 100bucks... better that than gettin nothing for somethin i'll chuck away anyways... smile.gif

I dont think it'll work... cause i stuck one 1GB in it first and tried booting, nothing happened... when 2 sticks r in, phwwooaarrr....

It runs less hot now... and the apps launch much faster... neeways, if u read Vandetta's comment, 512 is indeed enough but if u r a kiasu speedfreak like me, then u wanna go upgrade lor... smile.gif

So tempted to get the iMacs!...
