Learned my lesson those day when I uses Galaxy W, charge overnight frequently, the battery bloated in 6 months, later change to S3mini stop doing that 1 year battery still OK.
Don't forget heat kill it battery, if constantly leave it plug whole night may heat up ur phone.
I have S2, S4, ipad, etc. All leave charging overnight. Once its fully charge, it will go into trickle charge. When charging to full, the phones will heat up. Once it's gone into trickle charge, the phone will be as cool as normal phone without charging and it will stays that way until we unplug.
My S2 is 3-4 years, S4, 1 year, ipad 1 year, etc....all overnight charging with "original" charger (I don't use OEM, always buy original even for spares, to minimize risk of charger causing phone to explode case as happened to some (always turned out to be oem charger or battery as a cause). All batteries in excellent condition till now. Oh, I leave them on tile floor just in case (got air-cond room thus tile is cooling......just in case

)
All of them were cool down after full charge even when plug in.
If an app is going kookoo inside and eats up the CPU and batt life way more than it can charge, then that's the cause for extreme heating all the way to the morning and probably might damage battery, etc. Both my phones have watchdog lite to detect CPU going above a certain threshold and buzz out loud when it happen, so I can know if it happen and reboot the phone or kill the related app. It can prevented extreme heating overnight.
Just charged MI3 overnight yesterday. This morning, it is not hot. Will try again overnight and monitor the heat to in morning check if its going to explode
