i'm losing patience on my nexus 5's batt life. i feel that i'm turning off every feature on the phone just to save batt life, turning a smartphone into a normal phone.

anyone got any special tricks that can improve batt life so that i can give it a last try before i revert back to my note 2 with custom rom.

What is your battery life? and what was the kind of battery life that you were expecting?

yea, not only no up or down preference, there's no female or male port, means the cable can be used either way. smile.gif

For now, I seriously think that nexus is one of the brand to consider when getting an android.

But then again, we have htc m8 which is also quite nice and smooth.

With android L coming soon, the trend might change. If there's a day when google will be mainly responsible for all the phone's update, i think it doesn't matter anymore whether its a nexus, sony, samsung, htc or even xiaomi.

If that day comes when all phone is running on stock android, I think the better designed with better specs phone will be my phone. tongue.gif

I did greenify all of that. I used elementalx with 750 underclock, but still the rapid idle drop is there. Help.  Hmm.

Rapid idle drop.

Check:
-location
-sync
-google now

best is to use better battery stats to monitor what's draining your battery.

Worst come to worst, restore factory settings and see whether the problem persists. If yes, then most probably isn't software issue.

I disagree. I wouldn't think Nexus is one of the brand to consider for normal consumers; where they just buy phone and use (non-techie), not like us who like to tweak (flash) to improve performance/battery.

Tbh, I don't think that is a good thing if Google is responsible for all updates. That would mean all phone must run Google stock AOSP and not each manufacturer's own UI (touchwiz, sense, etc). There'll be no variety in Android phones hence all phones will just compete with specs/design/price. There'll be little to non innovation to each manufacturer "special" product.

Just my 2 cents. smile.gif
*
Yes, nexus are more for us who like to tinker around with their android phone, but that doesn't mean it is restricted to only us. I think the nexus now is more consumer friendly / noob friendly compare to previous versions of nexus. That is to say, stock is getting better and is sufficient for normal daily use, even for tweakaholic.

Actually I didn't think it was possible for google to control all the updates. tongue.gif Just a thought that randomly popped up.

Anyway, I think manufacturers might actually go closer to stock as seen with what motorola is doing if L is really that good when it comes out. Imagine, if L, J or K is something good , smooth, beautiful and all, to the point where the consumers actually prefer it to skinned android UI. tongue.gif

Also, don't forget Android Silver. smile.gif Maybe it is the closest thing to what I said earlier about google controlling the updates for different manufacturer's phone.

Guys, care to enlighten me on how you guys manage to stick with dalvik?

Since the last page consist of peoples saying how imba xposed is, I'm curious.
To me, I can't settle with dalvik because of the difference in speed between art and dalvik.

Like what's stated on the screenshot, the main culprit is gmail sync. tongue.gif
If you want more battery life, maybe change the sync frequency?

I installed the z2 bionic and dalvik patch, got a bootloop..This is my second time trying to flash bionic and dalvik patch. First time resulted in a bootloop and I never tried it since then.

I'm on PA + elementalx btw.

If you're using custom ROM, mostly wont notice speed difference, as most ROM in dalvik mode was fast enough, with helps of Dalvik and bionic lib optimization built-in.
*
Okay, after some problem with loading the optimization on pa, I finally installed it successfully without bootloop.

I did some comparison side by side:
Phone 1: PA 4.4.4 +elementalx + dalvik optimization
Phone 2: stock rom + elementalx + ART

I did a simple test by loading up chrome and settings. I then click the recent apps button, and click the 2nd last app to quickly switch between chrome and settings.

There's some lag and stuttering noticed on phone 1 while phone 2 is just smooth.Phone 2 had loads of apps in the recents as I didnt reboot it and I've been using it for the whole day. Phone 1 is just booted and there's no other app in recent.

Loading up apps seems the same speed but phone 2 is faster when going back to home from an app.

Anything I'm missing here? And I doubt I could ever bring myself to accept dalvik when I've experienced the speed for ART. Gona have to wait till xposed is compatible with art i guess.

Till today I have never even bothered using ART as my settings and optimization blows ART out of the park
*
Hmmm.. does it mean you never used ART before and yet you can still know your dalvik is better than ART? or is it that i misunderstood your sentence? hmm.gif

QUOTE(Someonesim @ Aug 1 2014, 12:54 AM)
Just double check with you, you're running PA 4.4.4 or PA 4.5 ? PA 4.5 still in alpha and the Recent still very laggy and slow.
*
I flashed pa 4.44 and then flashed both Z2 bionic and dalvik, when system booted, there's an ota prompted for 4.5 or 4.45, forgot as I just dismissed the notification and didnt update it.

QUOTE(xxdesire @ Aug 1 2014, 02:24 AM)
I used ART way back at the beginning of KK. I really like the smoothness and I get better battery life compare to stock dalvik.
Then after 4.4.2, I switched to dalvik because I want to try xposed back. Flashed Z2 bionic+dalvik. Same smoothness and performance. Battery life lower compare to ART tbh.

Tried ART and Dalvik on 4.4.4 lichti rastakat + elementalx(+ z2 bionic/dalvik during dalvik)

Just like you, might be just me only having on par performance between those two runtime with z2 patches.
*
Hmm, it could be just my problem but thing is, I noticed the difference when I switched between ART and dalvik on my own phone. Now, I used another phone and compared it side by side. When opening app and everything else, both are on the same smoothness, but you can really see the difference when using recents. I don't even need to compare side by side and I already know there's some lag and stutter in recents on the phone with dalvik optimization compared to ART.

I wouldn't say it was designed to attack nexus 5. But it can definitely compete with nexus 5 price wise, hardware wise and software wise. tongue.gif

Guys, anyone use white Nexus 5? Will the back cover become yellowish over time? Me want to get this phone, went to directd last Saturday, unfortunately only white color available for 32GB version.

I kinda worried it will easily get dirty, since I didnt use cover/casing for my phone.
*
2 of my bro used a white version. While I use a black version. Color wise, white is better, but if you wana use it without case, can consider getting black.. Cause of the soft touch of black color nexus 5, very nice to the touch.. tongue.gif

Anyway, They were on case with white nexus, but didn't notice any color change so far.

Guys, have any of used a Z1 and compared it to the Nexus 5? Is there a lot of difference in terms of battery life and smoothness between the two?
The reason I'm asking is that I'm thinking of selling my N5 and getting a Z1 instead.
*
Once you use a nexus 5, you can't really use another handset.. especially sony. I compared Z2 with nexus 5, Z2 is laggy...

Battery life wise i think Z1 might be better than nexus 5.

By the way guys, any of you have a very soft/sensitive power button? Not sure if this is normal or not.
*
depends whether you have a casing on or not. If you dont have any casing on, then it is not normal. But if you have a casing which covers the button, then it might be your cover causing the problem.

With or without casing is quite soft but not sure how soft should be considered normal. It's quite easy to accidentally press it at the moment.
*
Hmm... I think it shouldn't be soft to the point that it would be accidentally pressed without knowing.. Maybe send back for warranty?

The best thing to do is to compare it with another nexus 5. smile.gif

There's still the tactile feedback when pressed so I know when it is pressed but just it's being kinda soft then it don't really require mush pressure/force. Maybe it's just me being paranoid since I've been using iPhones all these while and their buttons are kinda solid and hard.

Guess I'll have to compare with a few other Nexus 5 to know.
*
Well, after comparing it with ip5s. The ip5s volume button is very hard, while the power button of ip5s is similar but a little harder than my nexus 5. tongue.gif
