Are blogs still the in thing or is photo blogging or video blogs the next wave.
Sometimes these next generation things are cool to have and talk about but the technology could never do it suitably, reliably at consumer cost.

I mean the technology for video telephone calls has been around for sometime but the video quality, speed and cost has always been a factor, would it be the same for photo and video blogs?

I can see that photo blogs are slowly coming and is quite the norm in some places where girls will even take pictures of restaurants they goto eat and the dishes there and blog about it.

Video blog I think would be something like youtube where you can upload videos and blog about it, but I don't really see how this will take off in Malaysia with the slow connections doh.gif

Free
How good do you rate the free blog websites out there?
What kind of features do people usually look for when choosing their host?
Server space?
Server speed?
Reliability?
User interface? (idiot proof?)
Link up with handphones or some email software for easy updating?
Picture posting facility? etc.

Paid
If you were to pay for a blog, of everything what would be the key item you definately need that you would pay for it?

I'm thinking the only thing would be speed. As perhaps there are full featured free blogs with unlimited space being hosted in places like Czech or Serbia but the server is always down and slow when logging in.

Sponsored
I feel that alot of companies now are getting some of their IT guys to do some online branding for them. Getting their staff to create a blog as someone anonymous and not connected to the company or like an unofficial spokesperson for the company.

Their blog content focus is only on that particular brand, e.g. Cannon/Sony products. They have review, discussion, etc. of that company's products.

But do you feel this is cheating us abit, as blogging in essence was about everyday normal joe like you and me blogging about this in our everyday life, and if we come across a product we like we will personally endorse it but to be like a promoter for a company in a blog.

Feels weird, perhaps a cheap way to market things and fool less it savvy people into thinking its actually an average joe instead of corporate america writting the bloh vmad.gif

for a free blog & for a newbie to blog like me, i think tht's the facilities tht they provided are more than enough for me.

i am one of those girls who will take pics of the places i've been to & stuffs tht i bought or think are interesting.

in a way, i think photoblog will be better cause most ppl are attracted to pics rather than wordy posts & it's fun to actually see those things tht are being written in reality(as in pics) rather than imagining it.

as for video blog, i think tht it's not a hit to msian of course will be due to super slow connection & not much haf the the cam/phone to record it.

I've been blogging for more than 3 years and I still find normal blogs written by authors interesting to read. The new thing I've noticed is that they add images in sometimes abstract or sometimes meaningful to lighten up the mood while reading the entry. So to your question will photoblogs or videoblogs overtake written blogs, it depends on how many writers and how many photographers or videographers come online. smile.gif

Authors on Blogger, Wordpress, Blogsome and etc can't afford or don't see a point in investing their money for their own domain and space because they're not serious bloggers. They blog for lighter reasons of their own. The content you read on their blog is their personality talking. The interface of their blog as well represents their personality and isn't everyone's cuppa tea because they're their main audience. smile.gif

People who invest money into a blog plan to take their loose blogging into something more serious half the time. However, sometimes it's just pure pride speaking that they want their own domain name cause it's easier to remember or cooler to have. Most blogs that people invest money though are blogs that try to make money in return. The money they generate might not be cash but sales or recognition.

Sponsored blogs are really blogs used as a communication/marketing tool by companies for their loyal customers and to convert normal readers into customers. Though their reviews or writeups might sound bias, these blogs are meant to do one thing which is to bring the customers closer to the company. It's to allow the customers to dig deeper into the company. Corporate vacations tell customers or graduates that they are a business who knows how to have fun as well. Open complaint letters on their blog isn't because of ego but to bring customer service or create a conversation between the company and its products. smile.gif

There are several types of blogs nowadays compared to when people were blogging for themselves. I'm hoping that through the Merdeka Blogger Project later this year, everyone will be able to read about the experiences bloggers have gone through.

Hope to see you guys there as well. wink.gif

For paid blog, you have to risk when the server is down. And, for free server, they mostly dun have this kind of problems...

I would have thought paid ones are more stable than free ones.

Video blogging is something new, flikr and youtube are examples of such trends.

Video Blogging is new. But, it looks hard to do so if you have bad out-looking. Right?

i guess its more important to be a pretty chick to get more hits on your blog than being handsome, unless you want attention from BBM club members.

coz as a straight guy i don't see the point in waiting for a Vblog of another guy (handsome or not) to load unless its one of those 'america's home video' moments, that also rare, don't u think so?
