Authors on Blogger, Wordpress, Blogsome and etc can't afford or don't see a point in investing their money for their own domain and space because they're not serious bloggers. They blog for lighter reasons of their own. The content you read on their blog is their personality talking. The interface of their blog as well represents their personality and isn't everyone's cuppa tea because they're their main audience.
People who invest money into a blog plan to take their loose blogging into something more serious half the time. However, sometimes it's just pure pride speaking that they want their own domain name cause it's easier to remember or cooler to have. Most blogs that people invest money though are blogs that try to make money in return. The money they generate might not be cash but sales or recognition.
Sponsored blogs are really blogs used as a communication/marketing tool by companies for their loyal customers and to convert normal readers into customers. Though their reviews or writeups might sound bias, these blogs are meant to do one thing which is to bring the customers closer to the company. It's to allow the customers to dig deeper into the company. Corporate vacations tell customers or graduates that they are a business who knows how to have fun as well. Open complaint letters on their blog isn't because of ego but to bring customer service or create a conversation between the company and its products.
There are several types of blogs nowadays compared to when people were blogging for themselves. I'm hoping that through the Merdeka Blogger Project later this year, everyone will be able to read about the experiences bloggers have gone through.
Hope to see you guys there as well.
