Guys, I stumbled upon this thread when trying to find out how Time Fibre Home Broadband performs in the real world as opposed to on-paper specs listed on their website.

Question: Is Time Fibre Home Broadband available at 3 Residen Condominium, Desa Melawati? I tried searching for it via the availability search website (http://time.com.my/help/availabilitysearch.asp) but couldn't find my condo listed there. Just wanted to confirm whether this is true with you guys just in case the website is not up-to-date.

Furthermore, has anyone tried streaming Netflix 4K stream (example shows: The Blacklist, House of Cards) with Time Fibre? I wanna see whether it is able to stream at full quality or not. Netflix's official requirement for 4K streams is at least 17 Mbps Internet connection if I'm not mistaken.

All these while, I've been streaming Netflix at 1080p Super HD and Hulu Plus at 720p HD at full quality with no issues at all, using my Maxis Fiber connection at 10 Mbps. But it would be even better if I could have multiple simultaneous high quality streams, so that my children can stream via iPad while I can watch via Apple TV, while at the same time downloading on my computer, with no drop in video quality.

Anybody tried the above using Time Fibre?

If you are already enjoying good performance from Maxis Fibre, why wanna change? I have no complain on Time Fibre until recently where the line speed starts to drop. Mine is on astro IPTV package by the way and I dont know whether it affect the whole performance or not.

I am enjoying good performance, but I'm thinking of the future when a lot of Netflix streams will be on 4K. For now I don't even have a 4K TV, but when I do in the future, I would want to upgrade my broadband speed to at least 20 Mbps and above, which on paper Time Fiber is the most economical way to go. Time Fibre's prices when compared to Maxis Fiber is even lower, and Time Fibre doesn't implement quota at all (at least that's what I read when comparing the T&C between Time & Maxis Fiber; Maxis is like Unifi where they specifically state in the T&C they have a quota system and reserve the right to implement it in the future, but for now they do not yet impose it).

To me, at least on paper, Time Fiber is the way to go. But as jjj2 mentioned, it's not yet available in my condo, so maybe in the future hopefully.

Below is my speedtest result. Though it increase a bit but still not good.

That's very slow. What's your package's theoretical speed? 15 Mbps?

On another note, are you on Astro IpTV package? When your contract expires, I highly suggest you stop IpTV and go instead for streaming services like Netflix & Hulu Plus. Much more worth it. And cheaper too.

Dear Bro

You can consider Asus Router RT-N14UHP , the firmware is very stable and coverage at wide range.

Cost of The asusrouter only lesst than RM300.

Does Time Fibre work with Apple Airport Extreme? I have one at home now, but I use it in "Bridge mode" (did I get the term right?), i.e. Just using it as a WiFi access point while my actual router is the one supplied by Maxis. Maxis doesn't allow using other routers, but there are unofficial ways to bypass that blockage. Still, I'm not techy enough to do it myself so I don't bother.

What about Time Fibre? They allow using Apple Airport Extreme?

Yeah, I got the 100Mbps (100GB quota) plan. Though it never goes close to even 80Mbps, it still does me good. Btw, I would suggest you borrow some cable to really know your TIME's potential. Before connecting to a cable, it was only like 30-40Mbps for me. hmm.gif
*
ONLY 30-40 Mbps when connected via WiFi?? We non-Time Fibre subscribers are extremely jealous of you guys. Huhu. My Maxis Fibre package is 10 Mbps and I do get around 10 Mbps paying RM118 a month so I'm not complaining much. But jealous to see you guys can reach those high speeds.

If I ever get Time Fibre in my area, I'm definitely gonna upgrade to a 4K TV and stream 4K Netflix all day long...

Stop Astro? My wife and mother LOVES TVB Drama and also sports. Dont think stopping Astro is an option. I dont want to go back to the satellite option as well because of the raining issue. So far astro has been good BUT the internet sucks man. When I call them, they said its because of me not using cable. What a lame excuse. Sigh!!!

By the way, my package is 10mb with booster of 30hour to 20mb.
*
I don't know what legal streaming sources you can go for to watch TVB dramas, but for sports, you do have an alternative to Astro. I watch my Champions League through Watch ESPN app (on Apple TV or iPad), and my Premier League via NBC Sports Live Extra app on my MacBook or iPad.

So I'm pretty much covered from all angles. All in all the cost is cheaper too.

If you wanna have a look at what's available, do go browse this guy's website: www.izzudrecoba.com. He sells a variety of streaming services packages.

Actually 4k streaming is tipu wan...even full HD streaMing also tipu...Netflix is good..but nowhere near the FullHD of typical bluray disc which needs a bit rates of 30Mbps or more...
Netflix is currently only around 5Mbps I think..for their 'SuperHD'.
The internet dont have so much bandwidth yet for true FullHD streaming yet....much less 4K. Abou 30pct of bandwidth in USA internet already sucked up by Netflix currently...and that's not even true FullHD yet!

That said, the quality of Netflix video is pretty good...just dont buy into the 4K hype too much....having the resolution without the actual content is useless. We can have 1080p rips at about 2GB file size...we all know how the quality is...everything downsampled and all details lost. Yeah..it is 1080p....but no point.
*
I agree, a true movie buff will swear on his life that Blu-ray is the best quality money can buy to get the best experience from a movie or TV series. And indeed they are. But the thing is, I don't have that much money to burn buying Blu-ray discs for all the movies and TV series I want to watch (and there really is a lot), so the next best thing I can go for is Netflix, Hulu Plus and HBO Go... And never Astro obviously because they are an overpriced mess of a monopoly.

Yeah, I also agree 4K streaming is still at its infancy now. Not much content and the ones that are already available, when I read reviews, they say quality is not that much different compared to 1080p stream. So... Yeah I would give it a number of years to improve first before jumping in.

Bro...you dun need BD disc....BD rips is pretty excellent liao...(if you dun care DTS-MA/DD TrueHD and enough with DTS/DD)....can easily reach 20Mbits+++ for a 8 to 16 GB rip. brows.gif..i have a 8TB USB HDD box full of BD rips...whistling.gif

For me, the good latest blockbuster must watch in HD rips at least....the rest TV shows and older movies can stick with Netflix/Hulu. smile.gif

I have cancelled Astro > 1 year ago. tongue.gif

Good for you canceling Astro. I've cancelled for around 1 year already too. In fact I stopped watching Astro since 2 years ago but had to continue my account for 1 more year due to Super Pack contract.

BD Rips, HD Rips, etc are all not original right? I mean you have to download it somewhere (torrent etc.) I try my best to avoid these illegal downloading activities anymore and support legal methods only. However this is just my opinion only and I don't want to judge others. At least this way I'm supporting the content owners but sticking it to Astro though!

But again I'm not judging, everybody has their own style so you go on ahead asalkan don't support Astro is good enough! Hehe.

Hi Bro,

Yes, you may use your own personal Router.

Time is using 100% Fibre which means all the way from its OLT --> FTBs --> Splitter --> ONU (aka Fibre modem at your house) will be all fibre.

This translates to better stability, speed, quality of service, lower latency & enhance your user experience.

Time is also the first provider & currently the only one that provides 100Mbps full fibre FTTH solutions to home users.

Feel free to PM me if you require further details.

Thanks.

Hi bro,

I was wondering, do you know about Time's future plans with regards to what condo next to be connected with Time Fiber? My condo is currently under construction (Seri Riana in Wangsa Maju, KL). I wonder if that condo is planned to have Time Fiber once it's completed.

I am staying in Gold Coast Resort Penang and interested in subscribing to Time Fiber 100Mbps. However, with Astro iptv packages, I see only 10/20/30 Mbps packages. Can I add on Astro iptv with the Time 100Mbps subscription?
*
If Time Fibre is available, I suggest to NOT subscribe to Astro IPTV. Instead, I highly recommend you subscribe to Netflix and/or Hulu Plus. Those are much, MUCH better than what Astro can ever offer. It would be a waste for you to enter into a 2-year contract with Astro (where if you were to cancel, you'll be penalised), when you can easily go for Netflix with no contract at all, and with much more choice of on-demand movies and TV shows content, to boot!

PM me if you would like further details, and I can help you out. But first things first, make sure Time Fibre is available or not at your location. If not available, don't worry, Maxis Fibre or Unifi also works great with Netflix.
