Bunga Mas 5: The First Seabase

A Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) auxiliary ship, the Bunga Mas 5, otherwise known in service as BM5, has sailed out from Port Klang in Selangor towards Sabah’s eastern water where the ship, manned by a mix of regular and reservist Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) personnel would assume the role as the first sea base being deployed under the new strategy adopted under the East Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM).





The ship, deployed under the first seabasing deployment (Penugasan Sea Basing 1 or PSB1) is commanded by  Kdr Tajudin Abd Rahman PSSTLDM and shall reinforced the implementation of Ops Sanggah (which replaces Ops Daulat) and Ops PASIR in order to curb the intrusion and kidnapping incidents in Sabah’s east coast.

This joint initiative by the National Security Council (Majlis Keselamatan Negara - MKN) and the Malaysia International Shipping Corporation (MISC) is seen as interim measures in order to provide quick response by the RMN to serve as Forward Operating Base prior to the deployment of used oil rigs slated to be operational by next year.

BM5 would be stationed in strategic location within the threat area to provide with logistical support to the fast interceptor force especially in terms of accommodation, fuel, medical as well as others.

PSB1 contingent on-board the BM5 consist of members of the RMN Volunteer Reserve known as the PSSTLDM, supported by regular RMN personnel which form the Command Evaluation Team (Tim Pemerintah Penilai -TPP) as well as 10 members of the RMN Aviation Branch (Cawangan Udara TLDM -CUT) along with a Eurocopter AS-555SN Fennec helicopter from No 502 Skn. Also on-board were members of PASKAL’s Special Rapid Deployment Force from KD Sri Semporna.

Security forces in Sabah on alert during Hari Raya



KOTA KINABALU: Malaysian security forces have taken up position at strategic locations along the Sabah’s east coast to ensure a fear-free Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

All respective security units have been on alert since the July 12 Mabul Water Bungalow Resort attack which resulted in the death of Marine policeman Kpl Ab Rajah Jamuan, 32, and abduction of Kons Zakiah Aleip, 26.

Following persistent reports of armed Filipino groups attempting to enter Sabah, security forces have made their presence visible in Lahad Datu, Semporna, Sandakan and Kunak as well as near water villages.

Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) commander Datuk Abdul Rashid Harun advised the public not to listen to rumours during the Hari Raya period as the security forces were on standby to defend the state.

“Everyone can enjoy their Hari Raya without any fear or worry,” said Abdul Rashid who, like all ground commanders, will be spending this Hari Raya with the men on the frontline.

A 6pm-to-6am curfew, which came into effect on July 19 in the districts of Sandakan, Kinabatangan, Lahad Datu, Kunak, Semporna and Tawau, will be in place until Aug 2.

Australia SAS Forces On Standby For Trip To Ukraine

If authorised to go, Australian, British and Dutch teams will help secure the crash site of MH17 in eastern Ukraine.

A detachment of Australian SAS has arrived in the UK within the past 24 hours, Sky News has learned.

If authorised, they will help secure the crash site of MH17 in eastern Ukraine along with international partners.

They are currently working with British and Dutch special forces - all three nations lost citizens in the disaster.

However, the Ministry of Defence has not confirmed whether British soldiers will be part of the deployment.

Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott said on Thursday he would send around 50 federal police officers to help form an unarmed multi-national protection force with the aim of providing safe passage to the scene for independent investigators.

In the background, the special forces soldiers would provide armed protection but only if needed.

The area, under the control of various pro-Russian separatist groups, remains highly volatile.

The soldiers will only be authorised to fire their weapons if shot at first.

A separate detachment of Special Forces troops will remain in Eindhoven, on an hour's notice to deploy in the event of a major incident.

MALAYSIA SECURES AGREEMENT FOR INTERNATIONAL POLICE DEPLOYMENT TO MH17 CRASH SITE

Malaysia has secured an agreement with Ukrainian separatists, who control the area around the MH17 crash site, to allow a group of international police personnel to enter the area in order to provide protection for international crash investigators.

Pursuant to the earlier agreement between Prime Minister Najib Razak and Alexander Borodai, leader of the separatist forces, Mr Borodai today agreed to allow a deployment of international police personnel to enter the crash site.

Prime Minister Najib has today spoken to the prime ministers of the Netherlands and Australia, and the three grieving countries have agreed to work closely together in deploying police personnel.

68 Malaysian police personnel will leave Kuala Lumpur for the crash site on Wednesday as part of the international deployment.

Under the original three point agreement brokered between Prime Minister Najib and Mr Borodai last week, the Ukrainian separatists agreed to: transfer the black boxes to Malaysia; handover the human remains to international officials; and grant full access to the crash site for international investigators.

So far, international air crash investigators have been unable to properly deploy across the vast crash site in eastern Ukraine and collect evidence due to ongoing security concerns, including continued military activity. Malaysia calls for an immediate cessation of all military activities in and around the crash site.

Malaysia is concerned that these security concerns are preventing full and unfettered access to the site, and therefore a proper, independent investigation from being carried out. Moreover, Malaysia is particularly concerned that some human remains may still be at the crash site.

Malaysian officials are discussing the details of the police deployment with the Netherlands and Australia. Malaysian Foreign Minister, Anifah Aman, has been speaking to his international counterparts and officials from the Ukrainian government on the legal and diplomatic framework for the deployment.

Malaysian Transport Minister, Liow Tiong Lai, has been leading on the MH17 investigation, working closely with the head of the investigation in the Netherlands.

Speaking earlier today, Prime Minister Najib Razak said:

“I am deeply concerned that international investigators have been unable to properly deploy to the crash site because of the volatile security situation. It is imperative that we deploy a full team of investigators to ensure that all the human remains are removed from the site, identified and repatriated. Everyone who was on board MH17 must be afforded proper dignity and respect.

“We also need a full deployment of investigators to have unfettered access to the crash site so we can understand precisely what happened to MH17. I hope that this agreement with Mr Borodai will ensure security on the ground, so the international investigators can conduct their work.

“Three grieving nations have formed a coalition to secure the site. Through our joint deployment of police personnel, the Netherlands, Australia and Malaysia will work together to achieve justice for the victims.”
