Its just a normal toilet.... washing water using freshwater & flushing using seawater. For flushing, its not like vacuum as onboard plane or small tank like domestic one. Its just water flow to the toilet bowl.... reason is to reduce the noise.
The waste is then kept in a sewage lock tank.....in ops, if its full we will close the toilet. We cannot blow the tank as it is noisy...we need to put higher pressure compared to outside to blow the tank. When at snorting we will blow the tank as its easier to blow at periscope depth (pressure is lower). Once tank is cleared, we will decompress the tank to normal pressure & toilet is ready to use again.
I still remember, in Ouessant, the toilet is always lock. To use it u need to get the key from engineman on duty. Reason is...... to recognise who is the last to use the toilet. If toilet is full & u still flush it then u are responsible to be a pencacai najis. U wear the overall, with gloves.....take a pail & collect all the waste on the floor, clean back the toilet. Some of my friends experienced it.......luckily not me.
