KOTA KINABALU: A hunt is on for three suspected intruders after Malaysian security forces chased an unidentified vessel in waters off Semporna district late Thursday.

A Malaysian patrol craft spotted the vessel, with three individuals on board, at about 5.45pm in waters between Pulau Tanjung Sironggol and Pulau Maiga.

The crew on board the patrol craft gave chase and tried to intercept the boat, believed to be powered by 60 horsepower outboard engine.

When the Malaysian patrol vessel closed the gap to 20m, the boat headed towards shallow waters at a coral reef near Pulau Maiga.

Security personnel fired several warning shots as the patrol vessel aborted the chase due to the shallow waters.

The unidentified boat was then spotted heading towards Pulau Gaya.

Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) chief Datuk Rashid Harun, when contacted, declined to elaborate on the incident, only saying that they were conducting operations.

Meanwhile, Rashid along with other senior officers and personnel observed one minute of silence at the Esscom headquarters in Lahad Datu on Friday in memory of the victims of the MH17 tragedy.

Komander ESSCOM DCP Datuk Abdul Rashid Harun berkata daripada jumlah itu, 243 adalah lelaki dewasa, 331 wanita dewasa, 164 kanak-kanak lelaki dan 187 kanak-kanak perempuan.

Beliau berkata kesemua mereka dibawa ke Dewan Pangkalan Polis Marin Lahad Datu untuk tapisan dan pengesahan dokumentasi pihak Jabatan Imigresen.

“Kebanyakan mereka tidak mempunyai dokumen pengenalan yang sah atau memilik dokumen yang meragukan,” katanya kepada pemberita selepas meninjau Ops Gasak 26 termasuk operasi meroboh rumah setinggan di kampung berkenaan.

Turut hadir Timbalan Komander ESSCOM Brig Jen Subari Tomo, Pengarah Maritim ESSCom Laksamana Pertama Maritim M Karunanithi, Ketua Polis Daerah Lahad Datu ACP Hamzah Ahmad dan Pegawai Daerah Lahad Datu Iman Ali.

Abdul Rashid berkata dalam operasi yang bermula 2.30 pagi dan berakhir sekitar 10 pagi itu, pihaknya telah mengenal pasti sekitar 400 rumah setinggan di perkampungan air itu yang bakal diroboh.

Malaysia, US armed forces in joint exercise



KUALA LUMPUR: The Armed Forces of Malaysia and the United States are participating in a bilateral training exercise in Malaysia from Monday to Sept 2, according to a statement issued by the US Embassy here.

It said on Monday that the Malaysia-United States Amphibious Exercise (MALUS AMPHEX) 2014 had been planned over the span of several months and was designated to improve amphibious training, readiness and interoperability.

The training includes shipboard familiarisation, medical and dental capabilities, weapons familiarisation, amphibious rehearsals with ship-to-shore connectors, live-fire rangers, rapid response planning process, execution of amphibious assault and landing, and reconstitution.

The statement said the exercise would include service members from both the 7th and 22nd Royal Malay Regiments and US Marines and sailors from the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit and Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group.

The US military and Malaysian Armed Forces have partnered in counter-terrorism operations since 1985 and have participated in numerous exercises over the years.

"MALUS AMPHEX 14 is a realistic and challenging exercise that brings service members closer and improves both nations' ability to work bilaterally, which better prepares both nations to provide regional and global security," the statement said. - Bernama

FORT LEE, Va. (AP) — An active shooter has been reported at the Fort Lee Army base in central Virginia.

According to Fort Lee's verified Twitter account, the base has been put on lockdown and personnel there have been told to enact active shooter protocols.

I remember smaller boatyard/shipyard producing their own small interceptor like boat posted in military threads or forums i visited before,but no buyer from  our govt. No buyer = dead. Not good enough during trials? Dunno.

By dead, i mean the push for better design and tech for their own ship design.They probably think why waste resources for boat that wont sell, but if they got extra money to try, no problem.

I think we should replace our perdana/handalan/jerung/laksamana class with one class of 60-70m missile boat(something like vietnam's tarantul corvettes) since all of them quite old and we need more missiles in the sea plus provide work for shipyards gud idea no??
