i'm fairly a noobie when it comes to overclocking... i read Tomshardware and they suggested that Pentium D 805 is the best bang for buck chip for Overclocking...

now what about AMD? what's the recommended chip? in terms of bang for buck la...cause my budget tight...

The price i saw that day at pcfair is around rm180-190 in some shop , not rm210. Extra money spend on ram or motherboard.

you forgot one thing... power supply

if you try to overclock with cap ayam power supply, most likely you'll burn your stuffs.

My Cap Ayam PSU can push my Venice +3000 till 2.3ghz...
Although I am considering changing my PSU, RAM and HSF to overclock further.

will try to keep my budget to RM1.5k to RM2k max...

Basically, the budget only for AMD 64 3000+, suitable MOBO, ram? and most likely a graphics card... the rest like HDD, DVDROM and monitor etc, I can reuse back my old stuff...

3Ghz on SempronAM2 will definately smoke 2.7ghz AM2 Orleans .XS forum has a guy hitting 28sec superPI using 3000mhz Manila while 2.7ghz Orleans just touching 32sec.
Actually, for AM2, the cache dont bring much effect, that the reason why Amd phasing out the 1M L2 Cache Windsor because it dont bring large improvement against 512k L2. The K8 architecture dont really put heavy on L2 Size. That why Amd gonna realease AM2 X2 3600+ with 1.8ghz 256Kbx2 L2 cache for mainstream dual core.
I think a sempron AM2 3.0ghz will definately on par with 2900-2950mhz Orleans as both is base on same waffer except it has Half L2 cache. XS forum has some comparision between them , and what more intresting is some program, detect manila core as Orleans-256 instead of manila. I will post up the link later.

regarding the potential... try go to MSI website, look for the mobo. then try to download the manual. i think inside the manual you can check informations such as BIOS tweaking options and voltage options for overclocking.
