Was happily playing the OTG in car but then it dawned me, if use OTG, how to charge?

doh.gif

So i got my OTG cable with usb power from my Nexus 7, connect the USB drive, Mi3 detects like normal.
But..
When i connect the power cable, it won't charge sweat.gif

So a little googling, i forgot in the Nexus 7 i used a custom kernel specifically for OTG with charging capability.
potong stim la..

This is why I hate 3G. I don't really need the LTE speed but this is too much. Maxis going downhill.
*
I don't get it.

Maxis LTE different package than 3G?

I tested my 3G, from SGS2 (2MPS) to MI3 (14Mbps)..
Definitely lesser than LTE but way better than my old 3G speed

There is an app called "Themer" in the Play store . Install it and you will have the themes that you posted. Not hard at all, Fun to play with and show off but not very useful for day to day use because you dont have the icons and for most of us Icons are how we recognize our apps.

It is for any Android phone , not just Mi3.
*
True.. Looks pretty but hard to navigate.. So just uninstalled laugh.gif

So I just noticed in Battery Monitor Widget showing the battery capacity is just 3015mAh instead of the advertised 3050mAh.

Weird hmm.gif

35mAH wouldn't make much of difference.
Just like they advertise disk space, they normally round off to the nearest most "nicest" sounding number.
*
No la, i'm hanging out with friends, so comparing with Sony Z1, specs are similar.

But his battery displayed same as advertised but mine isn't. So just curious why

You win.. by 2mAh..
laugh.gif

But battery monitor widget doesn't tell you the current flow in realtime right? hmm.gif

I'm still having culture shock with my 3G speed. Last time averaged out at 2MBps with old SGS2

Is it normal when u make a call, the screen will turn off @ blank??
*
That's due to the proximity sensor.
it's the "lens" right of the "MI" logo.

try answering a call then put your fingers there, the screen should turn off.
tongue.gif

unless if you're talking about when you press the dial button then screen suddenly off, then maybe an error there

Either wrong folder, or the player is buggy.

Have you tried installing other music apps just to see if it detects the songs?

SGS2 was the revolutionary model at that time rclxms.gif  icon_idea.gif

There's an E drive that popped up in my Win7 when i plugged to pc, haven't try installing the software in it but that should be the one

So there's no problem to charge the phone with any other plug or micro USB cable?
*
My SGS2 was like RM2k when first launched.
Compared to this Mi3, 50% discount siot
doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif

Mine also connected to PC, it's like a pendrive already now rclxms.gif

Hope future buyers of Mi3 (tomorrow) will request Xiaomi to ship their order using Fedex...
*
From all the "comments" in the FB, maybe they will listen. Unless if they signed contract already, then Xiaomi have to honor it la.

Legally, they declared ETA 28th, so not their fault also

there has been plenty of review on net. but the bottom line is:

very powerful and user friendly phone at affordable price
exactly. at that time i bought from SenQ for the sake of extended warranty... now my SGS2 still got 2 more years of warranty left haha
*
Dang..
Still 2 years?

*
Hot or warm?
if warm, that's normal la. Charging currents through resistance produces heat laugh.gif

Need to have cool gel pad while charging 2A brows.gif

i using my sgs2/xperia charger to charge....batt life like meh...
in opis now...gonna use the samseng usb cable to charge...or shud i tukar to use the charger that comes along with my fon??  hmm.gif  hmm.gif
*
For SGS2, the phone itself limits the charging current to ~700mAh if i remember correctly.
So doesn't matter what charger u used, should be okay.

The reason it was warm only because the drawdown current was faster, so hot la tongue.gif

For Mi3, not sure whether it limits the incoming current or not.
hmm.gif

QUOTE(ck_boon @ May 26 2014, 10:10 AM)
i dunno wor
cos its advisable to use they original charger
i use my hongmi charger to charge hongmi is much more faster than use samsung charger to charge
dunno why....
*
Some charger used thinner cable, so even when the charger states 2A, actually it is less.

In fact, I have a Samsung charger with output current 0.7A doh.gif
BUT..

It charges faster than my 1A Blackberry charger sweat.gif

not only tablet, the same 2.0 charger is for my Note 3 actually but i also use it to charge Ipad Air, Note 3, Note 2, Note 10.1 2014, all no problem.  Just puzzle why they still restrict to 1.0A charging when the battery capacity is getting bigger.  I think Mi Power Bank is using 2.0A output too as it can charge Ipad.  But yesterday i tried charging mi3 with the power bank no such heating issue, maybe it intelligently detect it is mi3 and charge at 1.0A?  hmm.gif  Must warn my sister about the charger then when i pass the mi3 to her later.  wink.gif
*
Note 3 USB 3.0 la..
Higher voltage than USB 2.0

Higher voltage x same current flow = faster power full

bloody hot.  I have quite a few gadgets and i do know the difference between normal warm and extreme hot.  I can't hold the phone glass surface to my face for more than 10 secs, just to illustrate.  rclxub.gif  It is hot at the upper part of the screen, can smell the adhensive of the flipcase heating up.  shakehead.gif

Anyway, charging with USB now.  Anyone know the apps that measure battery and phone temperature?  I think measure objectively will be more reliable.
*
I'm using Battery Montor Widget, but it doesn't really show actual current flow.
Not sure of any apps that can do this actually.

QUOTE(jeremy05 @ May 26 2014, 10:21 AM)
not correct la, using higher amp charge, battery will charge more faster...

disadvantage is phone become fast heat, battery lifespan maybe more shorter...

I wonder how are we going to replace the battery later hmm.gif

Bro, you do know that the XiaoMi Power Bank comes with pass-thru charging, right?

Just plug your phone's charger into the Power Bank, and from Power Bank into your phone, your charger will charge both the Power Bank and phone at once.

Basically, when the Power Bank is connected as "charging from external source", that port on the unit becomes a pass thru.

Only the better designed (read: expensive, if not for XiaoMi) powerbanks have this function. That is why there's no charger supplied, well, at that price, asking for a charger is day light robbery too. laugh.gif
*
Just tried, it doesn't work.

When i plugged my charger to PB, the PB stopped charging my phone
hmm.gif

Maybe it first charges the PB until full then only PB charges the phone?

BTW, I think the PB surface is prone to scratches due to the metal casing.
So just plastic wrapped it, a bit fugly but it gets the job done..
