PENUBUHAN Liga Badminton Profesional pertama negara, 'Malaysia Purple League' (MPL), dibuat selaras dengan usaha mengekalkan Malaysia sebagai kuasa besar badminton dunia.
   
Menteri Belia dan Sukan Khairy Jamaluddin berkata penganjuran kejohanan badminton secara liga itu juga dapat membantu dalam pencarian bakat baharu bagi mengganti pemain handal negara seperti Datuk Lee Chong Wei.
   
Malaysia merupakan antara tiga negara terbaik dalam acara badminton selain China dan Korea Selatan.
   
"Melalui program ini, ia memberi cabaran buat pemain muda untuk beraksi bersama bekas pemain atau pemain profesional. Kita juga perlu pastikan kelab-kelab dan sekolah terus mencari bakat baharu untuk diketengahkan.
   
"Jika bakat baharu dicungkil misalnya sejak usia 10 tahun dan dilatih dengan betul, selepas 10 tahun negara akan menerima seorang lagi Chong Wei," katanya ketika berucap merasmikan penubuhan liga badminton itu di Sentosa Sports Arena di sini, hari ini.
   
Buat permulaan, MPL akan disertai 12 kelab dan bilangannya dijangka bertambah.
   
Musim MPL dijadual berlangsung dari Septemper ini hingga Februari tahun depan dengan turut melibatkan penyertaan pemain luar negara.
   
Dengan tawaran hadiah wang tunai RM2 juta, MPL ialah liga yang membuka peluang kepada pemain badminton profesional dan amatur mendapatkan pengalaman bersaing antara satu sama lain.

Usaha penganjuran MPL dilihat sebagai platform yang sesuai untuk mewujudkan platform bagi bekas pemain badminton negara untuk meneruskan penglibatan dalam sukan itu.

I can see there are lots of young badminton players in Malaysia, but what is BAM structure to tap these talents? Who and where are the scouts that tap these talents, I'm not surprised the gems are hidden somewhere in a small sleepy town in Malaysia. I believe, the potetial players are from the small towns like football in Brazil where great players usually comes from the poorer parts of the country.

We have been living off LCW success for the last 10 years or more and we have stoodstill all these years and tonite is a big big wake up call for BAM.

Are there any schoold of excellence for badminton in Malaysia? I don't know.

anyway really good effort by team which consist of LCW, scratch pairs and unknown singles, we were just 4 points away from the cup.
