I'm new to this hobby, before this, I'm just collecting nendoroids/figmas but I'm starting to get curious about gunpla as well. So for a beginner like me, which is perhaps, the best/easiest type to build?

Also, can anyone recommend a trusted seller or where do you get your stocks?
Thank you in advance.
*
in my opinion there is no problem to start on any grade at all, since the manual is designed to be easily comprehensible regardless of your age or skill (or the fact you can read Japanese or not lol) but for a decent build with good details and least effort to make it look good, I'd suggest HG 1/144 as well. cheapest can get around RM30-40, and most regular units costs under RM100. any more than that is just a matter of the physical size of the kit itself

QUOTE(skeithskeith @ Sep 17 2014, 05:29 PM)
Hello I just started few months ago, and these are my thoughts

SD Gundam is easiest and the cheapest to build, but provide lesser satisfaction. ( Unless you really like cute Gundams)

HG series is easy and cheaper (comparing to MG & RG), however it is still better than SD, in terms of details and posability.

If you just want to get a taste in Gunpla building, try SD Gundam first. It doesn't hurt much even if you realize that it is really not your cup of tea, because they are really cheap.(From RM18-RM30).

Also, I am aware that you collect Nendoroids, SD Gundam's cuteness should not be strange to you.

Hope this helps.
*
SD is easiest to build, but not necessarily the easiest to detail sweat.gif

SD is a bad choice
get another plamo kit such as LBX to train your skill before go to gunpla

LBX > SD

price almost same
both also made by Bandai, and both plamo are alike
*
somewhat agreed nod.gif

the build experience might be slightly different, but the finished product is (as in straight built) is way better compared to SDs, and the basic skills of plamo still applies

I disagree. You wouldnt want to start on PG or big/transformable/ver ka MG or even RG. The level of financial commitment u have to put up on those is not worthwhile for a newbie to experiment on. Newbie mistake is inevitable and committing those on HGs is less painful to ur wallet then on MGs/PGs/RGs. A a gunpla virgin, it is always recommended to try HG 1st. SD is a little too simplistic, not gonna learn much if at all imho.
*
yeah. totally missed out to highlight on those pricey & fragile ones sweat.gif

i don't think UC kits are good to start with whistling.gif whistling.gif they might be abit intimidating for first timers
i would think those new HG kits are great, like HGCE Aile Strike, HGAC Wing Zero, HGAW Airmaster.. etc tongue.gif
or the HG Build Fighter series are great too

QUOTE(skeithskeith @ Sep 17 2014, 09:16 PM)
Guys, I have a question, is it really worth it to get a better nipper?

I do not paint my Gunpla, that's why sanding out the sprue mark is very important to me.

I have read some articles and saw some videos saying that a better side cutter will cut better and hence easier to sand. But, I have no idea if they are honest about it.

I saw a Tamiya Side Cutter for RM100.00 in Time Machine, Time Square. The merchant said there are huge differences between normal nipper and good nipper, that's why it is a good investment. (= =but he is a merchant, of course he said that.)

I know this forum is full of honest people. Please guide me.
*
as a straight builder myself, I totally understand the situation laugh.gif

those so-called "premium" nippers would only help you as much as reducing the risk of getting stress marks (the whiting effect on the nubs) but you don't really cut the parts closely right away, since the best way would be leaving some of the nubs to be trimmed later on with a knife.

I myself using Bandai-own BAKUC Premium Nippers which I bought for about RM60 which looks & perform as good as the Tamiya nipper that you mentioned, and I still trim the leftovers with a knife icon_rolleyes.gif

I'm still searching which to buy, there are just too much to choose from  blink.gif  Anyone can give me a link to a website where they list down the latest (2013-2014) series? Especially SD or the HG ones?
*
I'm suggesting this: the (relatively new) HGCE Aile Strike Gundam. there's another HG version of it but that's an older release.

the new one compared to the old HG; better details, better colour separation & better proportions.

QUOTE(Tiger I @ Sep 17 2014, 10:08 PM)
My suggestion is to go for HG, newer ones tend to be quite detailed, and some only require a minimal stickers (only for monoeye/sensor probably) and it looks amazing just out-of-box

But that also depends on the design of the MS itself-lah laugh.gif

As answered above.. just use a Qtip to properly capture the details on the plastic itself (the plastic under the sticker has a very nice texture which comes across very nicely on the sticker if applied well)
*
if not mistaken the solar panels itself is textured, no?

Actually the sticker itself has some texture painted on, but u need to capture the profile on the plastic to really give it the surface to reflect light to give it the feel of the texture
*
I mean the plastic part itself tongue.gif

My first gundam  biggrin.gif  This was quite fun to build, though I hate putting on the stickers, I'm just bad at accuracy (as you can see from the helmet, some parts were not covered  sweat.gif )
But I think I can understand the enthusiasm of this hobby now. The process of building your gundam from scratch and seeing all the parts come together as one  thumbup.gif
HG next!

Get it for RM 300, unassemt. Yup, metal frame with plastic parts, it's like MG 1.0-1.5. The decals make it looks like ver3.0.
The phone is like lockout cos no sim is inserted. Can't really explore the whole thing...

HORY SH- that it one hell of a good deal! drool.gif drool.gif

I still remember seeing a guy paid a lot more that than just to get it without the phone on eBay sweat.gif

just wondering, is the p-bandai a limited run or is it available year round?

limited, more like a one-off production.

unless they announced a re-issue (due to high demand) like the recent announcement for MG Astray Red Frame, HG Gold Frame Amatsu and the latest MG Astray Noir
