Can't sleep?
I think your mum is under stress condition. Perhaps, you should encourage your mum to learn Yoga, can give it a try. |

first and foremost, make sure that she gets enough nutrition. Lack of nutrition can cause depression.
Lack of sleep can also cause depression. Insomia can be caused by lack of water. Make sure that she drinks at least 8 or more glasses a day. Thirdly, hormone imbalance. If she's near her meopausal stage thats normal. evening primrose oil can help. NEVER take synthetic hormone replacements or HRT as they have been proven to cause cancer later. |

maybe ur mom is facing menopause, whatever it is also, should try bring her c a doctor. is she having problems lately? family or financially all those stuff? ask her, talk to her. N bring her to see a doctor. If non-related to menopause, should be all those stress stuff that makes her sad, depress. Also, it's important to take care of her at this moment. Make sure she eat n rest all that.

how old is your mom? if she's in her 40s-50s like others have said, menopause could be the cause, have her consult her gynae on treatment.
is she overweight? have skin issues? many women tend to go into depression over their physical status. how is her marriage life? alot of women find that they feel neglected as they get older and get less attention from their husbands who are busy working. is she working? she could have work related stress which could be causing her depression. you said she told you that she's suffering, did she mention why? does she know what's causing the pain? too few details to give a proper diagnosis and we're not doctors or psychologists so even given the details we may not give a accurate diagnosis. |

important that you not show her your stress as that would further stress her.
if its because her health is getting worse, she should try to eat a good diet and get some exercise. its expected that her health will go downhill somewhat with age, as she comes to terms with that her stress and depression over not being as healthy as she once was should lessen. |

I hope ur mom will be fine soon. Getting depression aint fun. I went through bad depression 2 years ago and i know the feeling. I drug myself, swallowing 4-5 pills of flu tablets, panadol so that i could feel at ease later and sleep in which at the same time hope that i wont wake up.
Depression really tortures one's soul. Drains you out completely. Find ur mom a speciallist, make her happy and do something nice for her. Plus, talk to her is the BEST thing. |

Sometimes there is a real cause of depression. Could be pressure, work, relationships, problems in family, financial problems external causes or internal causes like health issues, aging, menopause, sexual disfunction etc etc.
Sometimes depression not 'caused' by anything but it still feels just as real to the depressed person. Anxiety, mood disorders etc. Get professional help for them, and also u have to be patient and understanding. Nobody chooses to be depressed. |

yeap, i agree, get professional. there is nothing embarrassing about seeing a psychiatrist or psychologist, contrary to what many msians think. they think seeing these two means that you are cuckoo.
depression is just the illness of the mind. search for the right one. if you need help, PM me. will be happy to recommend you. |

Your mom should start shaking legs doing nothing from today onwards, so you and your siblings, time to do something back.
Ask her to go for morning walk, do yoga (or anything similar, tai chi and etc). There is a field nearby my house, alot of aunties and uncles, most of them are retiree, go there to do some chinese tai chi, it really helps. |

have your mom seen the psychiatrist (psychology doctor)? what did he / she say?
if its comfirm depression, family support is very important. show care to her. and get her to exercise, as posted earlier. also, get her to be socially involved, i.e. friends, charity ...... about sleeping pills, its called dependence. after you get used to the sleeping pills, when you don't have it, you can't sleep. ask the doc if he can change it to the 'long acting type' which is not that bad. another thing is tolerance, which is you need to take more then only can sleep. hope it helps. |
