yes it is a stable ROM which is not shown at the MI Forum...
i also looking ups and downs for the change log of this ROM...

For the extra battery, it is much less hassle to bring around a spare battery...
secondly is the external charger will give use an extra option to charge the dead battery inside our car or house or office anytime... so u will have unlimited flow of Battery Juice... thumbup.gif
bringing power bank to anywhere u go is more hassle as it is a extra bulky unit...

Was thinking to have the powerbank to charge the desktop charger with extra battery in document bag when on the go. Much easier than hogging on the phone with powerbank, right?
*
yup... u no need to worry about the weight and cables...

nothing much difference... or should i say i just open the unit got update already haha... still installing some apps to test out the performance...

the only thing i frus about is the available RAM running... it shows only ~25% available...
in Mi3 it is ~40% available... is the MIUI running so heavy behind the background or it is just their preloaded ROM is heavy???

compare to Asus Zenphone5 (~10 days old) which I handover to its new worthy owner just as I took my 1s...
i think overall package i will still buy Zenphone5 over this... although 1s is cheaper and got a removable/extra battery... reason behind is the UI Fluidity and the overall performance... i had not try intensively 1s yet but that is my single cents after a few hours with 1s...

compare to MotoG performance, which i use about 1+ months early this year...
i think overall package MotoG felt like perform better also... although both is same spec...
but again i think the MIUI is heavy running on 1G RAM while the MotoG is nearly Vanilla which gives the advantage...
but nothing to jump about as MotoG cost nearly RM250 more than 1s...

Redmi 1s certainly is not as fluid as Mi3 but the apps launching is slower, MotoG n Zen5 also do better in this area...
i will try out fully tomorrow about overall package...

but the extra battery is tempting, the Dual SIM is a definite attraction to most of the sales person out there...
Mi3 battery life also not bad, can last until about 7 hours of my usage at least...
lets hope that XiaoMi will launch something which lets more ppl jumpingon board... smile.gif
again BUT... for overall package I think I would still keep using my Mi3 as primary, mostly sell out this RedMi 1s to my fren which is waiting for me to release it...

Haha...same here, company SIM card is full size SIM Card.
This phone will definitely comes in handy when travelling overseas. I would normally buy a local sim card for internet & phone services.

While its extra battery is better option to charge it with Mi Power bank on its desktop charger while I still continue to use the phone freely without wire tangle.
*
agrees... on that... smile.gif

QUOTE(hafic @ Jul 15 2014, 08:41 AM)
The 1st thing that I noticed in the v29 update is that the ram management has improved. Previously my phone only left around 200-300 available ram, now it has improved to 300-380 available ram.
*
that is after you clear... but when i'm running things behind... it always stuck at 100~200 only...
after lunch maybe i'll review Asphalt8 on this phone... and also multitasking...
i wanna see how it allocate and also swapping the RAM when i run multitask...

QUOTE(movanns @ Jul 15 2014, 09:30 AM)
android ram mgmt system is clever enough. they r putting more apps on idle in the ram for fast access when u need it. if u r running a memory extensive prog, the idle apps will be removed from ram to cater your needs.
free ram=wasted ram
*
Well I can tell u, multitasking in my Mi3 is not as good as my Xperia ZR which have same 2G ram... so what they put in idle is only MIUI apps...

QUOTE(helo @ Jul 15 2014, 10:38 AM)
seriously zen phone 5 is better?
*
Yes, Multitasking is better...
From my trial yesterday Nite with some apps Zen5 do feel smoother and also it does not hog the available ram...
apps do starts slightly faster and apps does not get killed easily as Hongmi 1s...

QUOTE(suntzulee @ Jul 15 2014, 10:47 AM)
hows the battery consumption on this phone?
*
Still haven really use yet for daily phone yet... will try out mostly by tomorrow....

QUOTE(coolstore @ Jul 15 2014, 12:16 PM)
12.16pm already, still got  laugh.gif

# mayb 1s targeted users get honor3c already, juz a few tens up, huawei brings in 30,000 units ga ga
*
Well 3C I'm not interested cos MTK chipset but 2G ram is a plus for the budget phone... with same spec Snapdragon 400 of MotoG compare with Lenovo P780 using MTK, MotoG is better in fluidity and also multitasking... power saving of MTK is not doing any favor for me at the moment...

QUOTE(john123x @ Jul 15 2014, 12:54 PM)
guy, just receive my phone, should i update the system? will my google play and english dissapear?
*
Nope all still OK... I update it as long as it prompt...

Have to ask TS to start user list.
I am happy with it as I feel it perform better than my previous Moto G.
Best part is that MIUI give alot of advantage to control the phone.  rclxms.gif

Not to forget, the external charger & extra battery it's a plus to own this phone.
*
really... i felt it was laggy compare to MotoG... please factory reset your phone then only try...
u cant compare both car with same power but one you in 100kg and another u just have the drive...
of course the lighter one will be faster lo...
i only use MotoG for a month... i don how it feel after loads of stuff inside already...

QUOTE(NightFelix @ Jul 16 2014, 04:03 PM)
Yeah, downside of Moto G is non-removable, not exactly a cons, but if able to removable the battery on Moto G, that would be Bonus.
*
yup... if removable fantastic...

This morning I tried Multitasking on the phone... disappointed...
I'm using Waze to see traffic, then swap to CoC to clear something... when I go back to Waze it restarted...
Sigh... as me whether I want to resume navigation or not...
1st day I use it as main phone... see how it goes...

was it CoC memory hungry games ? mayb due to the 1GM RAM
*
not due to 1G RAM, but is the MIUI system problem...
don trust me ask ur fren which have Mi3, always used RAM is around 1.2G after clear...

QUOTE(peet @ Jul 17 2014, 11:59 AM)
Reading some of the comments here it's like buying a Proton and expecting it to perform like a BMW. tongue.gif
*
i think u r such a easy customer to deal with... or should I say u Don have requirements... and u Don bloody care if this phone drops signal here and then cos it is a F**KING cheap phone...

i used a few phones already and non of the 1G RAM phone gives me this problem... try to restart your phone n see the free RAM available it is just non-sense that it will eat up to 700MB after restart... as I said if you have Mi3 also u will notice this also...

I had Sony Xperia SP (my cf still using this), Lenovo P780 and Motorola G before... both with 1G RAM and both ram used was not at the 70% used level after restart... mostly will be around 50%-60%...

On the phone with 2G RAM, I used Pantech R3 and Sony Xperia ZR b4... both also less than 50% used ram after startup...

I speak out of experience and also fact, let ppl know the limitation only... and lastly FYI I have Mi3 and RedMi with me now... just sold a ASUS Zenphone5 (2G RAM version) to my fren also...
This 3 budget phone I would tell you Zen5 gas better ram management compare to XiaoMi phones... it does feel smoother at times on Zen5...

I gotta agree with that. My main phone is an Asus Zenfone 4 (the Redmi 1S is wrapped nicely in the box, still dunno what to do with it. maybe raya phone blush.gif) and I have no problem at all with running Clash of Clans. No crashes, lags or anything. It runs perfectly well even if my chrome has a dozen tabs open. Same 1GB RAM as the 1S.
*
Oppss I add more things... cos lazy to type with my Windows Tablet, using my Mi3 much easier to type...
Take a snapshot of ur screen, show them the free ram on Zen4 vs 1s clean after restart...
Then maybe those noobies only know what am I talking about...

I tried the multitasking again with 2 of my frens, they also ask why just 2 app only so fast they force close the waze already... I do not have any problem with others 1G phone...

Waiting for my fren to discharge from hospital so he can unpack his 1s and try out... he also agrees with me with the RAM management problem on Mi3 also which he has one also...

Having a nice spec phone is one thing, but having a good rom is another thing. Thats why if compare this R1S to moto g, you will see moto g perfom way better than R1S. All i can say is, xiaomi sell us unfinished piece of software thats is full of bugs.
*
Agrees on this statement... we give them sometime lo, as they are still new... but if any body in XDA manage to port a CM rom over I will jump to that and try, this apply to my Mi3... it really makes huge difference on the phones performance...

As HongMi 1s I buy just to try out... will sell to my fren soon after a week or so...

yes this is it... Hongmi 1s is 100 lesser... it will wondering around 200-300MB free all the time...
in short means Zen4 has more room for apps to keep for usage than 1s

I see. Do you know which particular ones?

ok I have disable some apps, now phone starts at around 385-400MB free.

*update: restarted phone and do the clear memory thing, waited for awhile, now it hovers around 420+MB consistently. Uninstalled certain google apps that I don't need, and disable some other, will see if affects normal operation of the phone.
*
share with all ppl what have you disable and also uninstalled...

thanks a lot...

Delete drive it will helps... I will try again today as I delete those useless Google's apps just now...
Going to seremban, will use waze, whatsapp and CoC to try out...
It should be better as I have about 400MB after restart, tried to cleared the ram a few times so I guess that is the optimized ram usage without root...

BTW on my Mi3 which I deleted those apps long ago also cannot get 50% free ram... mostly system hogging the ram, running around 800MB free only for sometime already...

I use Drive... so i'll just remove/disable stuff I don't use  tongue.gif  don't know if disabling 'xiaomi service framework' would affect other normal operations on the phone. from what i read on the net... it's related to Micloud services, not sure.

Antivirus can turn off install monitor, cloud virus definition and updates too.
Then I believe have to root, and remove stuff like the xiaomi service framework etc. If not remove, at least freeze it first to be safe.
*
maybe but hard to say... but really the MIUI fault which slow the phone down like Samsung TouchWiz...
but at this price u have to bare with it lo... haha...

QUOTE(DannyOP @ Jul 18 2014, 10:06 AM)
I found out that the main culprit to the slow speed is the Global rom, after changing to non global rom it's much smoother.
*
really??? change ROM will be better... but Global ROM really heavy...
lets say Mi3 when u download Developer ROM (340MB) with G apps only less than 400MB if not mistaken...
but Malaysia ROM is 510MB which is 100MB more, duno what to add in until that much...

QUOTE(nickchk89 @ Jul 18 2014, 10:51 AM)
Since u have most of the great budget device
Which offer the best battery?or try rank them(moto g,zen 5,xperia sp,mi3,redmi,r3,xperia zr),in term of sot

Thank you notworthy.gif
*
SOT?? of course Mi3 will win cos it has 3050mAH (around 4+ hours)
then it might be R3, after that Zen5 vs SP already... although i would say this 3 quite close... (~3.5 hours)
ZR should not be far behind with MotoG (~3 hours)
lastly i think RedMi 1s already... i don get 3 hrs SOT on this device... but close, actual is around 2~2.5 hrs only...

BTW R3 where is budget device leh... n it has 2 battery which is 2600mAH each...

QUOTE(xperiaVuser @ Jul 18 2014, 02:10 PM)
What is super jerky and slow? Give some examples please.
*
laggy lo... it is not super la...
if you just compare 1s to MotoG with the same spec, MotoG perform better...

the MIUI makes the phone slightly laggy just like TouchWiz of Sammy to their phones...

QUOTE(nickchk89 @ Jul 18 2014, 03:11 PM)
well,u answer all my question for battery,i asumed all the sot comes from heavy usage, for mi3 n moto g part,i get same sot as urs,i guess redmi not so battery efficient as i thought it would be.
but given redmi 1s bundle set got extra battery/charger,should get 5-6 total screen on time, sounds good for me.

Ps:im using mi3 right now,ex moto g users,aiming for smaller device now(sp,redmi 1s),thanks bro
*
SP is smoother and also bettery in battery management...
RedMi 1s is poor in battery management but u always can have the spare battery to extend the stamina, but the system UI is not that smooth...
your call lo... i also prefer something around 4.8" with Snapdragon 800 n 2G RAM, around 3000mAH battery and also 13MP camera... memory internal 16GB also ok, if got external mSD card support is better...

really my fren... my advice is keep your Mi3... u will miss the multitasking a lot when u swap to 1G ram device...
my history within 2 yrs... Samsung S3 > Pantech R3 > Xperia SP > Lenovo P780 > MotoG > Xperia ZR > Mi3 > Zenphone5 > HongMi 1s.... i would say smaller screen around 4.7"is a sweet spot... then RAM 1G is barely enough if you like to swap a few (3~4) apps around frequently...

well bro... different ppl got different requirement... but HongMi 1s speed is still acceptable...
but again if you are use to Mi3 speed then it will be jerky as some one said...
another catch is try to disable animated transition for windows in developer tab... smile.gif

i also like what u mention, decent compact 4.7-4.5'' with decent spec, but i can't find any. most of 2012/2013 flagship(4.7'') is phrased out  ohmy.gif

i brought z1c for my bro,but its too small, though the battery is the best i seen in android(6 sot average without stamina mode)
*
that is a lil too small la... maybe u can try Zenphone 5 also... i feel it is not as big as Mi3...
actually 5" is my maximum already, i do not prefer to have bulky phones in my pocket already haha...
got a few 5"also not that big...

Xperia ZR also not bad actually with removable battery, i sold off coz i got Mi3 already and my gf don let me keep too many phones... haha...
then u have a few MTK Chipset phones like Lenovo S660...

@suntzulee
maybe it just the optimization of the new MIUI system vs MTK/Snapdragon...
we don know yet...
