Just buy gtx 780ti

not saying 295x or 290x is not good but their drivers do not really keep up with the beast of nvidia

GPU boost is useful too

No reason to yet... still managed to play current games at 1080p pretty well... I would stick to my own upgrade schedule every 3-4 years... biggrin.gif

Not unless I see the need and space for multi monitor or 4k reso setup... laugh.gif

For 3.8k your pc doesn't look like a bargain, its probably more expensive than to buy all the parts new.

Heyy, thanks for replying and, yes of course OCing biggrin.gif

Is this a blue color scheme build? I not hating on your choice, but kinda prefer a red/black or yellow/black build. And do not need a Optical drive. The rest is ok.

Really like the Asrock Extreme series, but unfortunately, it is blue. If yellow, I plan to get the Gigabyte Z97X UD3H Black edition. I also plan to get the Corsair SP and AF colored rings and spray paint them yellow

A few questions, is the M5 Pro SSD better than the Samsung 840 EVO? Because the 840 EVO is RM10 cheaper... do not need the optical drive. And also, is the Z97X version of the motherboard more value for money?

You might wanna consider Core i7-4790K. It is 500mhz faster and comes with Hyper-threading.

EDIT (I think): Recently, one of my friends bought the new Logitech G502 mouse, he did not like the mouse and he gave it to me (for free!)

So, Now I just need a keyboard, instead of both keyboard and mouse.

Can't really pull the price lower unless you can postpone addon items like SSD, keyboard and mouse.

Well he mentioned that the motherboard I suggested is expensive so I am wondering if he has a specific budget for the motherboard so it'll be easier to find one for him.

Anyways Epix for fully black Z97 motherboard, maybe this one? Link

Do you mean mini ITX? And second, why mini-ITX? unless you want portability, if not better go for ATX because most ATX parts are cheaper (e.g motherboard, case) and also very limited Expansion slots

Where you get the price from? And wow, a GTX780 this cheap? xD

Will the GTX780 will run cooler than the Vapor-X? and GPU boost on the gtx780 will improve FPS in games too.

Having your OS on the SSD, your boot times will be super short, compared to when on a HDD, and 16 or 32gb will just be overkill

Thanks for the feedback. Reason is I'm in the generation where 40GB HDD used to be huuggeeee tongue.gif And that was just 10+ years ago ?

Also most of my games come from Steam, and my current downloaded library on this PC is around 300GB ... Even Origin's Titanfall is 50GB installed doh.gif so probably would leave out the SSD for now.

Basically, the Avexir Core Blue has a lower CAS latency of CL9 (for 8GB kit) and CL10 (for 16GB kit), compared to CL11 for the Kingston Value RAM. That being said, the difference in terms of performance is minimal only. And the Avexir also has blue bling-bling LEDs (with heatspreader) and looks really good. So it's really up to you whether the extra ~ RM50 is worth the extra bucks or not.

Alright guys, thinking of finalizing the build with the recommendations from here :

Proc - i5-4460
Mobo - Asrock H97M Pro 4
HDD - 2 TB WD Black
PSU - Seasonic S12II 620
Casing - Bitfenix Prodigy M
RAM - 16GB Value RAM (8 x 2)
GPU - Pending

Can anyone confirm if the i5 4460 + above mobo can work without a GC (ie: has integrated graphics) ? Want to wait until the nVidia switches to Maxwell (800 series) then decide if I'd get a reduced price 780 or new 880.

Also I see plenty of love for the i5 but not i7 ... any reasons for this ?

Looks good. Yes, you can utilize the integrated graphics.

Basically, the i5 is commonly recommended as they provide excellent performance for everything, with gaming included. The i7 is definitely faster by a small bit, but it isn't really worth the extra bucks that you pay for. Also, not all games/programs can fully utilize the extra threads that the i7 has.

I7 is significantly pricier than I5.

Except you are building a workstation and with enough budget, we don't normally recommend them.

But if you don't mind a little top up, Xeon seems to be a sweet spot between i5 and i7 at RM7xx.

Just quoting myself for reference tongue.gif

Does anyone know of a good wifi card that would fit ? Asking here instead of shop because I'm ordering everything online so can't really do the trial & error method.

Also for the RAMS should I go for 8GB x 2 or 4GB x 4 ? And are the Kingston Value RAMS a good choice ?

You can try TP-Link TL-WN851N, RM59. Go with a single 8GB stick, you can further add on another 8GB in future. Yes, they're the same as with all other value RAMs. However, do note that the Kingston RAMs are nearly half height only, compared to Corsair's. tongue.gif

Those shown on your link are the typical full height modules.

I was meaning something like this. tongue.gif

Just to post an update :

Thanks to all the help here, have configured my rig as follows and now have to decide between nVidia 780 Ti or 980GTX ?

Proc - i5-4460
Mobo - Asrock H97M Pro 4
HDD -2 TB WD Black
PSU - Seasonic G650w
Casing - Bitfenix Prodigy M
RAM - 2 x 8GB Value RAM

Will the 980GTX be a good fit or should I opt for another card ?

If you were considering a GTX 780ti, I would definitely think about getting the 980 instead. Beyond more efficient power consumption, its performance is much better - we might see 980ti etc in the future.

the perfomance is not "much" better, a little bit better. but the power consumption is surely an improvement.

Still nvidia 980 a bit cheaper than 780ti. Best bang for the buck recently is nvdia 970. Am I wrong? sweat.gif

Thanks , 980 is a better card all round, but just concerned if my rig will cause any bottlenecks ?

Yeap, fantastic reviews for the 970 all round. Just a sample :

The GeForce GTX 970 overall kicks ass for the money, it really is a fast card series that is being launched at a very competitive pricing level.
