The new Riger silver modem given by TM is a rebranded TP-Link?

Why the webgui looks very similar to TP-Link except the logo?

Good news for DB120-WL user! stren89 make me curious and I start research about Riger DB120-WL hardware used.
This will improve your DB120-WL Ethernet, Wireless and ADSL by using latest driver provided by TP-Link, straight improve DB120-WL efficiency. Click here to see inside Riger DB120-WL!
I have 2 Riger DB120-WL at home, I got extra one because I accept TM upgrade offer last time.

Before proceed, take this precaution.
1. This applicable only Riger DB120-WL (Silver) with Firmware Riger V .4 installed by default.
2. Before proceed updating, please connect your computer directly via LAN Cable to DB120-WL
3. This may void your warranty (maybe not, since you didn't open the case)
4. Doing at your own risk!

If your DB120-WL still have warranty and scare get broken, I suggest you follow, stren89 guide.

Important Change!
You need to accept this awkward changes, because LED driver operate at different signal. You need to learn:

No, I don't actually have a DB120-WL nor have I tried it on one. Hence why I said "sharing with others". blush.gif Sound like it would work fine though.

And ah I see. I kinda figured as much but wow, you must love Japan a whole lot. And true, but the internet does help.

Hi Anime4000, thanks a lot for the nice discovery and update there.

You did a spectacular job discovering the real hardware behind the Riger DB120-WL Silver Coloured Lunchbox modem.

It's quite a good hardware actually which TM probably made it right out of so many hardware releases if people actually know how to tune(configure) it properly.

I might want to cross flash it to the official TP-Link firmware in future after the warranty has expired. smile.gif

Meanwhile I only have 1 modem without a spare, so need to take care not to mess much with it yet.

My solution is rather simple approach to patch and remove all the backdoors contained in TM's cutomized firmware.

Here's what I did:

1) Disable Wireless Radio Fully In The Modem (Uncheck the Function)
This turns the modem into a 4 port switch Wired-Only Router Modem.

DHCP Server/Assignment for the TM modem is still left intact so I got myself those cheap TP-Link wireless router in the market disabled DHCP function in them so use them as strategic APs in my house. Anything with Wireless-G/150N is good enough.

With my Wireless APs, plugged into the ports 1-4(either one) of the TM DB120-WL 4 port switch modem, I can turn them off/on as I like with each having secure WPA2-AES access. Mostly I'm on wired, so they are turned ON when I have guest/need access for my mobile devices.

2) Under Access Management Tab

i) Under ACL, Delete Interface 3 For WAN Remote Access, but keep
Interface 2 for WAN Ping (Just Disable It For Future Uses)

Then Deactivate ACL totally with the main radio button above.

ii) TR-069
Deactivate It.

I can only think of those being security weakneses of the modem.
The other stuffs like changing the default access password, MAC filtering, and using stronger wireless encryptions are normal routines to protect your hardware from remote access.

Thanks to your post, I think I now know which modem to get for replacement just in case the stock TM modem dies.

Get the TD-W8951ND

If I'm not mistaken this is the only TP-Link ADSL2+ modem with wifi router which its firmware supports PPoEv6 in the market. The other TP-Link single port bridge modem that has PPPoE v6 does not have wi-fi router function.

*bump* Would it work if I chose the other firmware on the folder? I'm afraid of breaking my only modem. And i think people are already stealing my wireless ap >_<
My phones and tablets all run wireless only, I can't just settle for wired LAN ports. Can someone chime in on why I can't get this flaehed to my riger? it IS .4 that came stock with the modem

Found the solution, choose the other RAS file in the other folder. We have a different revision of firmware for the modem. Now I'm on V5 with TD-W8951_V5_140226.

Leaving this here so no one has to suffer with the issue of flashing the same file again and again and not knowing what to do

Erm.. question here.

I want to ask is it true that the modem provided by tm have security issue on wireless connection and allowing other user to steal on our connection?

Saw stren89 post and to configure the best way i can do is to shut off the wifi connection and just plug in lan cable.

Do computer accessories shop sell extend 10 meter lan cable? My modem locate at living hall, and my room is way far from it. This way is just to prevent unmoral people to stealing the usage.

Thanks for advise.

Yes just disable the UniFi router's DHCP Server and plug it into any of 4 ports of the Riger modem/router.

By doing so, it will become a dumb AP and repeater switch while the routing function still is handled by the Riger.

Sorry guys, I tried on my 2nd Riger Modem (under warranty) and I flash it, it really need RAS "TD-W8951_V5_140226"
then can proceed to use "TD-W8951_V5_140306" even you can revert back "TD-W8951_V5_140226"

I believe this RAS thingy should be Open Source, a lot modem-router uses same interface, if can get the source code and compile, we can use our custom build biggrin.gif
