1. Diamonds are not like gold, whereby gold price can increase over time and possess more value. You can resell it though but will have some losses, usually. In other words, it is not an investment tool unless you know what you are doing.

2. Diamonds are not needed for marriage. A normal bands will do for signing ceremony and vow exchange.

3. Diamonds are more for sentimental purpose.

4. There is a high premium on branded engagement ring. If you are happy getting a branded engagement ring, it is certainly okay, as different people has different preferences. But, if you want something to maximize on carat size or performance, it will be best buying diamonds that do not have too much branding, like a GIA graded diamond. In fact, GIA is the world's defacto standard.

Of course, these days it has become like a tool for proposal, so if you are getting one, prepare a budget and stick to it.

The one you mentioned with rainbow is not even Triple Excellent. In fact, the one with no rainbow mentioned is a Triple Excellent and its proportions is the safest.

The second stone only have cut grade Very Good too.

However, since you managed to see the real diamonds, and they they appeal to you, maybe it suits you, there is not right or wrong. But if you want the standard that most people are looking for, they usually begin with Triple Excellent.

Try to view the diamonds in other light environment? Maybe ask the sales person to bring them outside the store if possible?

Also, survey the price a bit and see if the price you are paying is worth it or not. If you don't mind, do state your budget and I see what I can find that falls within your budget.

Lololololololol. OMFG. Sacrifice on cut to achieve performance. While I can agree on the steeper crown to achieve better fire, but FFS, it only manage to achieve a Very Good cut. You can find diamonds that steep but still within 3EX range.

Let's see what I can achieve... I can get you something like 0.53ct E VS1 Triple Excellent with Faint Fluorescence at around RM 7000. Ring starting from RM 1499 and can custom to what you want.

And that 0.36ct??????? I have a 0.41ct 3EX E VVS2 selling at RM 4700. Add on design starting from RM 1499. Design with side diamonds starting from RM 1999. It is less than 7k! And I am not even the cheapest to begin with, but the diamond quality is good. Check out my page:
