Dear All Sifu,

I'm looking for an proposal ring, any recommendation on where to start?

Is a budget of RM3-4k sufficient to get a decent ring?

Thanks~

Check with ZCOVA, Tailored Jewel, Eumayco Jewellery, Memory Jewellery (Facebook msg them) and see what is their current promotion. I would recommend you to stretch your budget to between 4.3k to 4.5k if can. At this budget, you can probably land on a standard 0.3ct E, F or G colour GIA Triple Excellent with VS1 or VS2 clarity. Just let them know your budget of 3 to 4k and see what they have in-store for you.

Then, try to go to brick-and-mortar stores to understand the price and quality of the stones, compared to those private jewellers listed above. Also, try to take a look at their signature line, and compare against a normal diamond. See buying from where makes you feel more comfortable.

Other info:

A lot of jewellers will tell you they are Hearts and Arrows diamond with clear precise Hearts. Unfortunately, most will tell you that you can only see the arrpws, but not he Hearts, because it is mounted on a ring. That means you have to take their word for it. Of course, if the arrows are not bad and the proportions are not bad then there is a good chance that the Hearts are not too bad as well, but we won't know for sure. However, if the price is good, I think it should be fair enough.

Also, 99% jewellers won't provide you performance images like ASET and IdealScope, unlike super ideal jewellers. IdealScope will tell you the light return, ASET will tell you whether the stone has any low intensity light zone or whether the cutter has "cheated" on the stone by retaining excessive weight.

Super ideal is just a term coined for diamonds with sweet spot proportions with excellent Hearts, ASET, and IdealScope. If people is telling you Triple Excellent is the same without further proof, they are really shitting you.

If you want super ideal, you can probably land on a 0.2ct E colour or a slightly bigger G colour from Brian Gavin Diamonds. Their cut quality will be better than what most

Thanks sifu, will PM and check those places out. Btw is it recommended to purchase the diamond separately ; i.e from Brian Gavin and ship to Malaysia? or get the whole thing in Malaysia instead? thanks and sorry for the trouble confused.gif

Depends on your own preference. Both have pros and cons. For me, if a particular diamond really catches my eye due to whatever reason, I won't mind buying it as long as I can afford it and the price is not too bad. But for now, I am inclined to buy off the internet due to the transparency on performance.

You can simply YouTube super ideal diamonds and see the difference yourself.

If you want maximum transparency on how well cut the diamond is, you will have to buy from those vendors who provide the necessary images. In Malaysia brick-and-mortar store, only Love & Co's LoveMarque diamond shows individual Hearts and Arrows image on their IIDGR report.

I used to worry about getting the diamond set. But after finding out there are actually quite a few options, such as Memory Jewellery, I feel comfortable enough to customize all the way. The jewellery production house that Memory Jewellery engage has good capability in producing ring settings. Quality will be not bad as long as you dont customize til way to fancy. Precision for simple design is good because of 3D printing these days.

Dear Sifu @kambingkoh,

I've visited a few brick and mortar shops today; i.e. Diamond & Platinum, Poh Kong, Goldheart, Love & Co. , Wah Chan.

So far i felt Wah Chan's more transparent and reasonably price on their product? Most of the other company just show your budget type rings and inform you the diamonds are ideal cut without bothering to further explain on the colour and clarity.

So far what I was offered is this:

1. 0.3ct, E, VVS2, 3EX, including ring estimately RM3860. GIA Report: https://www.gia.edu/report-check?reportno=3...s=1537194239717

Attached Image

2. 0.3ct, D, VVS2, 3EX, including ring estimately RM3998. GIA Report: https://www.gia.edu/report-check?reportno=3...s=1537194239717

Attached Image

Any thoughts on this 2 diamonds? btw, according to 1 of the sales attendant, diamonds such as Lumiere are actually all the same, just a rebranding difference?

I've also manage to contact Zcova & Tailored Jewellery, which both currently have offer / promotion :

1. Zcova - 0.3ct, E, VS2, 3EX + ring all in RM4250
2. Tailored Jewel - 0.3ct, F, VS2, 3EX + ring all in RM4200
3. Other - no time check yet. sweat.gif

Thank you rclxms.gif
