Hi Kambing Koh and all the sifus,

I'm planning to propose to my gf soon, so i just went to Wah Chan to take a look.
My budget is around 5k. The sales person showed me the following diamond ring and told me that cant get this price anywhere else. So need sifus help to see whether it is worth the bang for bucks...

0.40ct H  SI2 3EX  GIA1268661767 (She offered RM4440.00 the diamond is already affixed to a ring)

Any other recommendations are very much welcome ^^

Thank you in advance

Hi Newbie123321! I am the owner of The Gem Tribe - we specialize in full range jewellery services. Nice to meet you and everyone on here! : )
As a GIA Gemologist who has graded thousands of diamonds to date, I highly recommend against going for SI2 diamonds.
In the U.S. where I went to get my qualification, my instructors used to call I1 and below stones - frozen spit. : ))))
SI2 is borderline frozen spit and in many cases, if you or your future fiancee is the sensitive kind, you would probably notice the nasty impurities and inclusions within the diamond. That's right! In order for a diamond to be graded SI2, there needs to be multiple large and noticeable inclusions within the stone.
So, does it make sense to settle for something like this when you have better, cleaner options?

What if I told you that by topping up a Rm1k+/- to your budget, you may get a GIA certified VS2 clarity, F color diamond with 3EX cut?
AND you have the flexibility of choosing a brand new 18kt White Gold mounting, instead of being stuck with the current design that your fiancee might not like?

If you'd like to understand, explore better quality and value jewelry options, you may Whatsapp us at +6012-2279525. Chat soon! ; ]

Dear gentlemen,

It is so heartwarming to see how everybody on here is looking for the best gem for their partners!
As a practicing GIA Gemologist who has been in the industry for the past 5 years, allow me to share some important true facts about diamonds.

Kindly refer to the picture link below I have attached of the Cut-Grade Limits set by GIA, from my GIA Diamond Grading Lab Manual.
As GIA is the institution that is known for setting the international Diamond Grading standards recognized by the entire world, it is important to not get carried away by mere figures and percentages without understanding the logic behind them. There is a reason why GIA created the 4 C's.

Reading through this thread, what I noticed is that everyone is so focused on just CUT.
Yes, cut is extremely important, but does that guarantee that you will be getting the most ideal diamond?
In my professional opinion, the answer is no. There should be a fair balance between all the 4C's.

Nonetheless, since everyone is on the topic about cut and ideal diamond proportions, let me share with you how GIA actually determines cut grades for diamonds.

According to GIA's guidelines for grading, having limits means having ranges. It is by understanding what combos of proportions in table percentages, crown angles and pavilion angles is how you can estimate best what the ideal proportions of a diamond is.

In layman's terms, basically, how does a diamond get a TRIPLE EXCELLENT grade?

First EXCELLENT comes from judging the PROPORTIONS of the diamond - table percentages, crown angles and pavilion angles.

Second EXCELLENT comes from judging the SYMMETRY - how balanced are all the facets arranged as a whole.

Third EXCELLENT comes from judging POLISH - how well the diamond's finishing is after polishing.

PURPOSE : To evaluate how successfully the diamond interacts with light in returning brightness and fire to the eyes.

There must be a good balance between these 3 things in order to get an ideal cut grade.
If you would like to understand better and know what the combos are, feel free to PM me directly, I am always happy to share. : )

Also, as we are running a full time jewelry services business, we have to attend to customers and design works, so we may not be as active on here as we'd like to be. If you are keen about getting a custom piece of jewelry made, do contact us directly. Our links are below. biggrin.gif

Hi All,

I'm new member here. I have zero knowledge on the diamond as well. biggrin.gif
May I know for those jewelry shop at shopping mall like (Tomei, Poh Kong, Love & Co, Diamond&Platinum, SK, Wah Chain..etc), The price of the diamond ring is it overpriced?
That day i went to do survey the proposal ring at Diamond&Platinum shop, 0.3cr (i only know this, biggrin.gif) cost around 6k  rclxub.gif Not sure this brand is reputable?

thanks.

Hi Snoopy! Welcome! : )
To answer your question, yes. Big retailers like Tomei, Poh Kong etc have to charge their severely marked up prices because they are big corporations having to feed hundreds of people in their company. So it does make sense that they need to mark up more in order to be able to cover their rental and operating costs. At the same time, that means that the customers are at a disadvantage of paying higher prices.

Personally, I was the GIA staff Gemologist who did Gemstone, Diamond quality grading as well as Costing for one of those big companies. Generally speaking, you can expect their prices to be 30-50% more expensive than what smaller, more personalized companies are offering.

If you are looking at a 0.30ct GIA certified with 3EX cut, with decent VS clarity and E-F colourless grade, it is normal to find them priced at 6k and above.
The 6k one you saw probably has much lower quality grades than what I mentioned above, with a very basic white gold setting right?

For a client that I am currently working with, I have specially sourced him a 0.30ct GIA certified 3EX cut, F Color, VS2 clarity diamond. Plus a gorgeous 18Kt White Gold mounting (attached in picture) that his girlfriend loves, it only costs Rm4,800 in total.

If you or anyone else here is interested in understanding how to buy a diamond better, you are welcome to PM me for a free consultation and I am happy to advise you from there. : )

14k (aka 583 or 585) = 58.3% or 58.5%, 18k (aka 750) = 75%.

14k gold should feel stronger with as the material consist of lesser gold. Pure gold is a soft material in real life so you won't see jewellery made out of 999.9 pure gold. While it is stronger, it is possibly more brittle as well, meaning it is hard, but it is easier to crack as it is more rigid. That's what I think.

14k gold also won't be that yellowish compared to 18k white gold over time, as the gold content is lesser.

You can have a read here: https://www.valeriemadison.com/blogs/the-st...14k-vs-18k-gold

To me, it is okay to go with either, but in Malaysia, 18k is the standard for engagement rings. But 14k is there to help you save some money.

Even these days, for wedding bands, you can see 9k, 10k gold as the price is more appealing.
*
Hi there! Just to explain more concisely and clearly, karat indicates the pureness of Gold used. Basically 24kt = 99.9% purity of gold. For simplification, it is ok to assume 24kt as 100% purity.

22kt = 91.6% gold, 8.4% are other metal alloys.
(In Asia, 22kt gold is commonly known as 916 Gold.)
18kt = 75% gold, 25% other metal alloys.
14kt = 58.3% gold, 41.7% other metal alloys.
10kt = 41.7% gold, 58.3% are other metal alloys.

Which means, the lower the karat, the lesser the gold and more content of the metal alloys. That is why the price gets cheaper with lesser gold, because gold is a precious metal, while alloys are not.

As for 14kt being less yellow than 18kt, this would only matter if you were buying a yellow gold ring/jewelry. Because be it 14kt or 18kt, if you are choosing White gold, they all will both be plated with rhodium and have the same whitish sheen.

In Malaysia, one important thing to note when you are buying jewelry with low karats. Metal alloys such as copper, silver, nickel, palladium etc are being used in the mix of gold jewelry.

Because Malaysia is very humid, you will see the alloys reacting to weather, chemicals and body sweat more quickly. So 9kt/10kt and sometimes even 14kt jewelry are commonly found to tarnish, turn dark and become less shiny fairly quickly.

And so the popular saying of 一分钱,一分货 would apply in this instance. So be wise in your spending guys! 😉

HCA score is 3.6: https://www.pricescope.com/tools/hca, so personally, I will skip this stone. The proportions may leak light as well -> Deep cut @ 62.8% total depth.

Calculate the expected weight using the dimensions and 6.33 x 6.39 x 3.99 x 0.0061 = 0.985ct.
The only thing I like about this diamond is the clarity as the inclusions are not on the center of the diamond (the table) and it is only pinpoint and feather. It should be a high VS2.

The fluorescence is strong blue, according to the sales man it will lower the yellowish color of the diamond? <- That's what Brian Gavin Diamonds (affiliate link) always said as well, so I believe that is true.

If you don't want to rely on HCA to help you filter (some may say it is just for reference and can't make the final call), then have a look at the Arrows of this diamond, is it well-aligned? I don't think you can view the Hearts as I believe this diamond is mounted on a ring. If you can view, they by all means view it as well using a Hearts & Arrows scope. All jewellers should have that in-store.

Lastly, do you like what you see?

Here is some diamonds that are close to your budget:
1.026 K VVS2 SIGNATURE BLUE ROUND
https://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds...?a_aid=myengexp (affiliate link)
Price: USD 5288, MYR 21,739.36 (Transfer using MoneyMatch: https://transfer.moneymatch.co/)
Desc: Brian Gavin Diamonds does not sell this as a Hearts & Arrows diamond, but rather as a budget friendly ideally cut diamond. But don't let this put you off because it is pretty hard to find diamonds that are cut to such quality in the mass market.

https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/r...id=myengringexp (affiliate link)
1.084 ct K SI1 A CUT ABOVE® Hearts and Arrows Diamond
Price: USD 4615, MYR 18,973.62 (Transfer using MoneyMatch: https://transfer.moneymatch.co/)
Desc: This diamond has great performance based on the actual diamond video. I would recommend you to check it out. The 6 o'clock arrow head and the arrow body seem to misaligned very slightly (if you want to be picky), but that is nothing unusual to me and it is still acceptable. This is an SI1 stone so I won't expect to see it eye-clean with a loupe or see it eye-clean at very close range, like few centimeters from the eyes. However, at a distance of approximately 10 inches under normal overhead lighting, it is definitely eye-clean. This is based on the definition from WhiteFlash. The Hearts and Arrows look very much acceptable as well.

Memory Jewellery setting is usually standard fit and price starts from RM 1499:
https://memoryjewellery.com/category/engagement-ring/
As far as I know, Memory Jewellery won't increase the setting price even if you stone is bigger. It makes sense because there is enough profit margin to cover any differences.

Bad thing about it is that their setting doesn't come with comfort fit as far as I know.

For comfort fit, you can try:
1. iDo Jewellery at Bukit Jalil. Her rings are not bad and she uses palladium in the 18k white gold mix. As gold is yellow in colour, 18k white gold will need whitening agent inside the alloy, so palladium is the whitening agent. In the mass market, usually nickel is the standard. However, nickel may cause allergic to a minor set of people. Nonetheless, if you other half is not sensitive to 18k white gold, then usually not a problem. Her price is usually not the cheapest but quality is there.

2. The Gem Tribe at Cheras: Relatively new player in town. One of the founders have been in this industry for a few years and she is able to provide ring settings as well. Her setting comes in comfort fit as well and her price starts from as low as RM 1200. You can specifically ask for palladium for the 18k white gold. Price may increase though. The final ring price should depend on the ring size, and probably diamond size as well, because logically speaking, bigger rings require more material, as simple as that. So it is a slightly different approach compared to MJ above.

You can ask them to bring some samples to try. iDo Jewellery has some, I believe TGT has too.

Diamond Altnernatives:
You can also ask MJ, iDO, or TGT to give you a quote for your required 4Cs as well, they do help customers to source for diamonds. Other players worth to consider is Tailored Jewel, which might also offer you some attractive price for your specs. Of course, you can also engage ZCOVA (affiliate link) for some other alternatives. Try to make appointment with them and have an experience with them and see.

iDo and TGT prefers to meet outside at a cafe or something. MJ has a showroom in Sentul. Tailored Jewel as a showroom at Atria Shopping Gallery, PJ. ZCOVA has a showroom at Kota Damansara. But, don't expect them to let you see the real diamond. They don't keep stock, as they run on virtual inventory. They will help you to source the best diamond for your budget through their respective sources.
*
Thank you for recommending us Kambing bro. : ) Yes, TGT does not carry existing inventory neither. We are able to give you max value for your diamonds/gemstones as we source them in real time for our customers. You may check out our lowyat profile for further understanding. Good luck!

Hello Haru,

I am Shannon, GIA (U.S. campus) Gemologist, nice to meet you. : ) I took a look at your Diamond GIA#1196288782 too.
Just by looking at all the inclusions of this diamond from the cert's plot, I can tell you straight off the bat that this is a borderline VS2.
The feather (which means breakage in the stone) is farrrrr too long within the diamond for it to be called a VS2. Hence, this is a good case study for those who want to see what a real borderline diamond would look like.
Also, the fact that it has STRONG fluorescence is a BIG no no.

Considering it is a K color (faint yellow, which to most people is easily visible even with naked eye), the fluorescence might help cloak the yellowness a little.
However, what the salesperson failed to tell you is that strong fluorescence actually causes cloudiness in your diamond too! Hence, probably the main cause for the poor HCA score as well.

Taking all these into consideration, my vote for this diamond is a no too. For this type of price, you could get a much cleaner and prettier diamond of that size, trust me. ; )

What do you mean by high VS2?
For Gemologists, when we grade a diamond and come to our final determination of the clarity grade, we usually categorize them as eg : a true VS2, or Borderline VS2 - which means its a 50/50 chance we will drop the grade down to SI1.

Is that what you mean by high VS2?

Hi Hikarireika,

This is Shannon, owner of The Gem Tribe and U.S. graduated GIA Gemologists. Nice to meet you. : ]

To answer your question, your budget is decent if you are looking at those alternative gems. And yes, to make it in 18kt White Gold is not a problem as well. Although, you may struggle to find it within big jewelry retailers here in Malaysia as Colored stones are less popular.

I am happy to guide you towards picking a lovely and practical choice and can be helpful with guiding you towards a design you love. : ) If you're interested in reaching out, here is our direct service line for your convenience. 😊 - 0122279525 Best luck!

Hi Jszeon,

I'm Shannon, owner of the Gem Tribe and GIA Gemologist.
If you are looking for a decent grade 0.50ct diamond, I may be able to source one for you at similar or higher quality for a cheaper price. You may check out our lowyat profile to understand how we are different.

Unlike ZCOVA who claims they only deal with virtual stock, they have actually been approaching a few of us in the industry offering to wholesale diamonds to us. This means that they actually in fact, have bought and is carrying in stock inventory. Hence, the possibility of them promoting only what they have.

If you like to understand better and have a better personalized experience, you are welcome to reach us directly at 0122279525. Best luck to you! 😊

What I read about Twinning Wisp is that it might cause the diamond to look blurry if not mistaken. Some Twinning Wisp will be dark in colour too. Do you feel that? If not, then is fine.
*
Hi everyone, Shannon here again - owner of The Gem Tribe and U.S.A. GIA Gemologist (recognized industry expert).
To answer your question about Twinning Wisps, it is a natural inter-growth within the diamond crystal that had formed during the formation of the diamond's crystal. Due to the presence of natural impurities found in natural environments, multiple types of inclusions may be present when the diamond rough is cut, faceted and polished to the final diamond.

As I have seen many in the diamonds I have graded over the years, the most common types of twinning wisps look like a whirlwind tornado within the diamond, which does not make the diamond look blurry, but more so hazy instead. Sometimes, there are even tiny crystals - transparent ones and sometimes black, which may appear like dark specs to those who don't know what they are looking at. Mini fractures called feather present, which are not ideal to the diamond may also be found as well.

For regular untrained eyes, it is not abnormal to be unsure of what you are looking at, so don't feel bad @ilovemalaysia2020. : )
I believe the reason your diamond may have been given an SI2 grade and not an I1 grade (thank god!) is possibly due to it containing that whitish tornado I mentioned earlier.
Had it contained black crystals or many tiny feathers webbing outwards from the "tornado", your stone would've been an I1 or worse. And I-category stones are a horrible and terrible choice because firstly, - it has OBVIOUS aesthetic flaws that are easily noticeable by the naked eye and secondly, it contains inclusions that risks and jeopardizes the diamond's actual integrity. Meaning, there is risk of the diamond chipping, cleaving or breaking more easily.

Anyone interested in understanding more in depth and accurately about diamonds are welcome to post any questions here for discussion. Or if preferred, you may PM me through the links below as well for direct assistance. : )

Hmm, I also not sure, but you can always ask their consultants to see what is in their pipeline. In fact, you can even let them know your requirements (4Cs) and they may even source it for you.

You can probably consider diamonds from another super ideal brand known as Crafted by Infinity. It is distributed by High Performance Diamonds so you can actually find this diamond collection in their website. Their diamonds are cut to high precision as well but their main strength lies in the arrangement of the diamond facets to bring more life to the diamond. You can probably land yourself on a diamond such as this :
https://www.hpdiamonds.com/en-us/diamonddetail/HPD10584

And this is another superbly done diamond for your consideration:
https://www.hpdiamonds.com/en-us/diamonddetail/HPD9870
Price is more expensive due to D color, but if you like high color, it is certainly a good option.
*
Are any of you reading this today also facing the same issue as ZONX here? Being so much in the unknown about diamonds and gemstones. Having limited options to choose from while waiting for overseas online merchants to update their stock list? Finding yourselves so overwhelmed and confused about all these fancy marketing terms and fancy sounding testing methods used by these online merchants who are just trying to differentiate their diamonds from other diamond sellers?

Are you really comfortable with buying a high valued, luxury item like a diamond/gemstone costing over thousands of Ringgits of your hard earned money sight unseen??

I am just sharing, from a practicing GIA Gemologist's point of view who has graded over thousands of diamonds throughout the course of my career, that even after having viewed so many GIA certs of diamonds over the years, that it was not surprising to often find that the stone wasn't what it was supposed to be. And how often I have come across diamonds that have a HCA score of 4.9 and above being far more brilliant and fiery than diamonds below HCA score 2 and below.

So how is it on paper/digitally are you able to really know and decide whether a diamond will have excellent or moderate fire, brilliance or cut? How are you able to accurately determine that the light performance of Diamond-A is better than Diamond-B without seeing it put next to each other for comparison? Based on all these diamond merchant tests that are not condoned or recognized by GIA standards of grading?

Did you all know that GIA diamond grading are done manually by actual human beings known as Gemologists? : ))
Did you know that all the table percentages, crown angle percentages, pavilion depth percentages, fire and cut grades etc that you see in the GIA cert are determined by Gemologists who use their trained expertise to eye-ball and approximate them; which are not done by machine?

Do you know why?
Because diamonds, my dear friends, are exactly like humans. They each have their own unique fingerprints and attributes, they each have their own respective characteristics and proportions. There are no 2 diamonds that are exactly the same! So how are machines suppose to grade them?

Determining how beautiful and high quality a diamond is, is by the balance of all its 4Cs - colour, clarity, cut and carat.

Colour : Would you be ok with your diamond looking yellow, brownish or hazy (fluorescence) under outdoor or indoor lighting? Although it has ideal cut?
Clarity : Are you sure light performance isn't affected by opaque or widely spread inclusions although it is ideal cut?
Carat : Are you willing to compromise on the other 3 valuing factors for a larger size stone only because it is ideal cut?
Cut : Are you willing to place the fate of your proposal on a diamond you have never seen merely because the cert online tells you it is ideal cut?

This is the reason why GIA, the body that created this worldwide recognized diamond grading standard created the 4Cs in the first place!

At The Gem Tribe, our GIA Gemologists provides personalized diamonds and gemstones sourcing concierge services locally here who can get you internationally supplied diamonds in real time - so no more waiting and paying for delivery! We are experts at selecting the best diamonds/gemstones to suit your quality specifications and budget needs, so you don't have to feel overwhelmed or pressured by complicated and technical gemological jargon! P/s : Remember, potential is not guaranteed. GIA cut grade is determined by Polish, Proportion and Symmetry! How could you get an ideal stone with poor facet symmetry? Why are some testing methods still not recognized by GIA standards today? Take everything with a pinch of salt. Best luck everyone!

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't buying from TGT is also buying unseen, since you are also sourcing internationally supplied diamonds in real time?

And from TGT's point of view, what is the nice balance in terms of 4Cs and proportions?

Take everything with a pinch of salt - Yes, totally agree. Especially the internet!  nod.gif

A pleasure as always, Yang Kin. : )

And apologies for the late reply everyone! I've been out busy sourcing a few diamonds and gemstones these few days, and also delivering completed goods to my customers. Barely have time to check back often enough! @,@

Anyway, do allow me to help clarify what we actually do here at TGT, as I can see how some readers may be confused.
We are a Professional Jewellery Services company, very much like a personalized jewelry concierge, provided by industry experts - GIA Gemologists and GIA certified Accredited Jewelry Professionals.

Unlike what others like ZCOVA, TJ or Memory Jewels do, we do not carry any Diamond Stock, nor do we sell via virtual listings.
We never buy anything on behalf of our clients sight unseen. NEVER. We source our diamonds through our internationally linked local suppliers - only big trade suppliers of whom dominates 60% of our KL market, who sells to even some of the jewellers mentioned above.

Our specialty is that our client tells us what they are looking for + their budget, we tell them right away whether it is realistic or not as well as what the biggest size with best specs their budget can get them.
Because we are certified Gemologists who have been grading gemstones for years and years (for public listed local Industry Giants as well as American jewellers abroad), we know what to look out for when we look at a GIA cert.We know how to identify if the stone is a borderline stone (a SI1 stone graded as a VS2 stone) or if the grade of the stone is a true grade (non-borderline grade).
We start our sourcing firstly through the process of filtering.

One big difference between us and the other jewellers is, we offer our clients access to more diamond options than what the other jewellers do. This is because other jewellers either market and post only what they are carrying (existing stock), or for those who market through "virtual listings", they are only able to process, upload and update their virtual list in a slower manner, hence making less options available to their clients virtually.

At TGT, we are able to shortlist for our clients, over 30 diamonds or more with similar specs that are within their budget - we filter out the potentials using our gemological knowledge.
Next, we meet with our suppliers to physically view and review the diamonds that we've shortlisted. Once verified, we send high resolution videos and images to our clients with a clear narrative of the diamond specs and features of the final shortlisted diamonds and which we find is the best choice, and our client gets to decide which he prefers to proceed with.

So yes, our Gemological services are nothing like what our competitors are offering. We represent our clients directly in a personalized manner, to help professionally get them the best option available to them in person, so they may avoid the expensive risk of buying a stone online that may be misrepresented. Our clients deal directly with a knowledgeable Gemologist, not a regular salesperson who is hired by the company to hard sell you what they have, be it virtual or not.

And gem sourcing is just ONE of the many personalized gemological services we provide. If interested in knowing more, you may PM us directly, check out our LowYat profile or our links below. : )

And from TGT's point of view, what is the nice balance in terms of 4Cs and proportions?
We always recommend the best and safest options to our clients.

Colour : E-F at the least. G at most.
For colour, it is never necessary to go to the extremes of buying a D colour at premium prices, as E-F is sufficient to ensure your diamond is the whitest when subjected to any form of lighting - indoors or outdoors. The way everyone gauges colour is different. Some may be more sensitive, some may be less. For those who are less sensitive, G colour may be acceptable, as long as they know what they are getting.

From our past experience, we have noticed that starting from H colour, majority of people are able to pick up on colour. So, as the safest option, sticking to E and F is the best.

Clarity : VS2 and above.
In our opinion, it isn't necessary to opt for anything higher than a VS1, because it means having to pay premium prices for it. Unless our client's budget allows for it, then we are happy to oblige.
For Clarity, we recommend nothing lower than a VS2. And it needs to be a true VS2, not borderline. It makes no sense that a client should be paying a higher VS2 price for a borderline SI stone.

The reason why we would never recommend a SI stone is because under normal magnification, there is a high possibility that the inclusions may be visible to our clients. And some inclusions are REALLY BAD and noticeable while some are less noticeable to the trained eye, hence - a 50/50 risk. However, we just do not want our clients feeling upset or unhappy after seeing what their SI stone looks like. Because today they may not care to see, but what if one day when given an opportunity, their partner does or wants to? We are just thinking long term.

Cut : TRUE TRIPLE EXCELLENT
Many people actually do not know what a GIA cut grade means and what justifies a triple excellent grade. Cut basically is split into 3 criterion - Cut, Polish and Symmetry. These 3 factors affect the aesthetic beauty of the stone tremendously. However, do not let this valuing factor be overplayed by those who have creatively generated many marketing differentiation methods to appeal to you online.

Yes, there are many borderline Triple Excellent stones we want to avoid. The reasoning behind is because like us humans, every diamond has its own unique proportions once being cut from a rough. Hence, more proportion allowances are given. You may get a better understanding of the cut consideration through this GIA article here : GIA Article - //4cs.gia.edu/en-us/blog/gia-diamond-grading-reports-understanding-diamond-cut-grades/

Nevertheless, don't you think you would be more certain and confident in investing your hard earned money in something tangibly verified by an industry professional? A Gemologist who is able to filter out those borderline stones, put multiple diamonds side by side in real time for comparison? Rather than taking a 50/50 risk of buying a stone online verified by test images you cannot re-confirm later on? (Btw, how many big retailers here in Malaysia possess ASET or IDEALSCOPE tools in their stores for you to borrow? Or do you have to buy your own tools too? @,@)

Here's an article for those of you who wonder how Diamonds are photographed for online marketing purposes :
https: How Diamonds are Photographed - //www.prosumerdiamonds.com/how-to-take-pictures-of-your-diamond/

Lastly, although most salespeople and online platform sellers will always brandish cut as the MOST IMPORTANT factor when buying a diamond (by using all types of fancy marketing tools that may or may not be true or recognized) but in actual fact, do know that it takes the balance of ALL the 4Cs to fully ensure that the diamond you get is truly an ideal stone that justifies the representation of your love. : ) After all, this is an important milestone in life. Decide carefully.

Thanks for sharing, Shannon.  smile.gif

This is particularly interesting, so can I say that all the diamonds you source will be physically available in Malaysia? As far as I know, some people prefer to pick diamond by actually looking at them, as in the real stuff, not photos. Possible to do that with TGT?

That's a lovely 0.45ct, mind sharing the number?

Most welcome Yang Kin! I'm always happy to enlighten. : )

More specifically, the diamonds I source are either already IN Malaysia, or is in-transit from Hong Kong, India, U.S. and even Isreal . As mentioned earlier, my suppliers are internationally-linked big players in the industry and supplies to 60% of our KL market, so they replenish their stock bi-weekly to meet demand.

Yes, I understand there are a lot of customers who prefer to see their diamond in person when they buy a diamond. A lot of those customers may have already surveyed and bought from big retailers (with severely marked up prices) or from smaller, private jewellers who carry smaller amounts of inventory (lesser options).

At the same time, many LYF readers here are also people who are looking for alternatives with better prices and are genuinely interested in ensuring the diamond they buy are excellent diamonds to represent their love. Many are first time diamond/jewelry buyers who are new to the topic and may be super confused by the overwhelming technical diamond jargon and testing methods discussed here.

Many here whom I've met and serviced are sincere, careful people who do not want to risk their hard earned money paying thousands to an overseas account, buying a diamond online that they themselves nor anyone else here has ever actually seen! They were unwilling to gamble the fate of their proposal to a 50-50 chance of getting a gemstone they cannot verify. Do you know how many lower priced diamond simulants such as moissanite, white sapphire, white topaz, cubic zirconia, strontium titanate (just to name a few) are sold as diamonds in the market today? Imagine overpaying for a non-GIA certified "diamond" that could very well be a lab grown diamond or worse, a moissanite? To an untrained eye, are you really confident in your purchase? Mind you, moissanite is a very different, highly brilliant man-made gem that registers as a diamond on digital diamond testers.

Here's a video of what a moissanite looks like for those of you who are curious : Moissanite Ring

My clients are the same people who have been reading and following this thread, done their extensive market research and have surveyed all the retailers including private jewellers. Clients who choose TGT's services are those who have met with me and found trust and confidence in an internationally recognized trade professional (GIA Gemologist) to guarantee that their diamond is a real and excellent stone in ALL aspects of the 4Cs - balance, which is the key to getting a guaranteed true excellent stone.

Yes, they may not see the diamonds in person initially during the selection, but they are borrowing the eyes and experience of a sincere expert, who has no pressure of selling existing stock, to help source through 20-30 diamonds and to verify for them IN PERSON, with only ONE mission of getting them the best and most brilliant diamond of what their budget allows! We don't just send pictures with no narration or advice. We update our clients through high resolution videos in real time with the actual stones being compared side by side. Clients don't have to wait long to see their diamond neither as we arrange to meet them the same night the stone is sourced!

It is truly a personalized experience overall that we can guarantee. No 50/50 risk. No waiting and paying for delivery. That is why we are a jewelry service business - an expert concierge for all your jewelry needs. We are not an affiliate, not a regular salesperson, not a jeweller nor a retailer. We are industry professionals who are stepping up to share, inform and help our sincere Malaysians make educated buying decisions with confidence. : )

With permission received from my client, here is his gorgeous diamond - GIA#7313938912.
I will have videos of his piece uploaded and shared here soon. Enjoy! : ]

Hi would like to ask if this diamond price ok?

Color : k
Clarity : vvs2
Cut : excellent (3ex)
Carat: 0.36

Rm2144

Hi Lavenzo. The diamond price is ok for that size. Do understand that the reason it is considered cheap for it's size is because it is really, REALLY yellow. Above average yellow. : )

Nonetheless, if you are planning on setting it in a yellow gold mounting and not a white gold mounting, the yellowness might be masked and less obvious.

The last thing you should consider clearly before jumping for that option is, cut, since the clarity seems to be quite high.
It would be helpful to share whether you found the diamond attractive and "sparkly" enough or not. : ))

QUOTE(lavenzo @ Apr 10 2019, 11:23 AM)
Around 3.5k for the whole ring, any good recommendations ? smile.gif

For Rm3,500, you could actually consider a few options :

Averaging your ring mounting 18kt Yellow or 18kt White gold to be around Rm1200-Rm1800 (depending on design),
leaves us at around Rm2000 for your diamond.

If you care less about size and more about quality, you can choose to bring the carat size down. Realistically you can afford a 0.20ct-0.28cts (right under 0.30ct at the safe range of E-G colour, VS1-VS2 clarity) with true Triple Excellent cut.

OR

If you care about size and less about quality, then I advise you to compromise on clarity and not colour.
The concept of colour is something that is easily understood by us human beings. Some people may be less sensitive; while some are like myself, more sensitive. With a K colour, even less sensitive people will be able to pick up the yellowness easily.

You can't say the same about clarity. Majority of the consumers do not understand clarity as it is more technical and requires deeper study into knowing what and how an inclusion can affect the light performance and brilliance of the diamond.
Chances are, even if the stone was a SI1 stone, your future wife may not be able to notice the clarity flaws. But she would certainly notice the yellowness of her diamond if it were a K colour.

Have you consider tp lower the carat weight in order to achieve a better colour?

I agree with Kambing Koh on this. You need to ask yourself what is more important to you. Quality? Size? Or Price? : )

I think 0.3 quite suitable for me now, avg grade is already fine for me.. I did compare the k color and a f color stone side by side...  yes it does not spark as the f color but it seems ok though.. Hmm if top up abit can get higher color? Perhaps h or I?

Yes! It is entirely possible to get a really excellent stone with better, well rounded specs! For colour, you may expect even up to F or G colour too at around Rm3000-Rm3400. nod.gif

Good day everyone! Sad to hear you're not happy and is experiencing some problems with your ring, @Kaisendon. If you require any repair assistance, we do provide repair services and you are welcome to get a quote from us. This is why we always encourage our clients to get something more solid, don't ever skimp on gold and try to avoid mass produced pieces that wasn't build for the exact size of your diamond if you want your ring to last longer. Also, know that certain designs may not be as practical as you think, especially if it is to be worn daily. You need not have that fear of losing your diamond, or even compromising on designs that you love if you are properly guided and advised by trained jewelry experts like ourselves. To date, we have yet to encounter even 1 dissatisfied customer who has any issues with their ring or diamonds/gemstones falling off.

The biggest issue with buying a ring mounting from large local and online retailers is that the mountings they make are mass produced to fit one specific default size. Meaning if the default size is 0.30cts, and if your diamond is 0.20ct or 0.40ct or bigger, the crown of the ring will be either shaved down or stretched out to accommodate your diamond size. Their logic? Cost wise, it is not feasible for them to make 1 piece of the same design ring just to suit your need.

Picture below is a sample of a bigger stone set into a mass produced ring mounting that is not the right size for it.

At TGT we build everything from 0 - 100%, to give you the flexibility of choosing any design you like (with advise & personal progress updates), and to make a ring that is high quality, exclusive and solid - lasting jewelry you can be proud of passing down to your kids in the future.

On a side note, the Solitaire Club indeed carries higher grade diamonds with equally high price tags compared to their lower ranges. But why pay premium prices to the Solitaire Club if you can get an equally or higher quality diamond from us, sourced expertly by our seasoned GIA U.S. Gemologist at easily 30 to 40% lesser than what these retailers offer? Best part is you have 100% flexibility of choosing the perfect mounting as well!

Besides the positive voluntary feedback and reviews from our dear customers shared here in this forum, you may also check out our links below for our portfolio or PM us directly for more info. : )

We sincerely hope everyone has a positive overall experience throughout your journey to acquiring your jewelry. It should really be a fun, exciting and enlightening process! ; ] Do let us know if we can share or assist in any way!

Okay. Both looks good to me. hearsay strong blue Fluorescence can counter the warm colour of K.
1338148854 is definitely whiter. But K ring is bigger and has VVS2.
Do K ring shine brighter according to the proportions?
Hard choice..
*
Hey John, there i a reason why strong blue is sold at the cheaper price. The strong blue fluorescence might cause a hazy or oily appearance in these diamonds that makes it looks cloudy under daylight. So it is advisable to see the diamonds in person under different lighting and compare with diamonds that is non fluorescent diamond to judge for yourself which has the better performance.

Cheers!
