bunzbunz! can I ask you something? Both of you bought rings together? Means when he propose there was no rings involve? I am really getting confused over the rings as some are saying don't buy rings without gf being there. ohmy.gif

Made up my mind to propose next year - aint getting any younger by the years.

After screening through pages, seems like JP and Michael Trio (both in SG) offers one of the best value for money diamonds yeah?

Like what forumers have suggested, best to get loose diamond and have the setting done in MY. Btw all, if i have the loose diamond, do i put it on a temporary setting to propose or set in directly?

JP probably gives you the best value for a brick-and-mortar store style of business. They will educate you properly before a purchase and will show you all the necessary images - ASET, Idealscope, H&A, to determine the performance of the diamond. You can go to their Youtube channel and get a gist of it first as they have some educational videos. If I am in SG, I will probably go to JP myself as well if I am looking for a diamond.

Getting the setting done in MY may worth it or may not worth it, it is best if you find out the price of the ring setting you want first and see what price the jewellers quote you, if the price is not far off, must well do it in one place to reduce the hassle.

To propose, you can consider using a temporary ring holder first and then only look for your ring setting and get the finger size correct. Something like this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/FREE-SHIPPI...20-317462baee4b

Only heard about Michael Trio, never explore further about them before, you may however visit them as well since you have plenty of time before next year.

All the best!  nod.gif

I did not have a good experience with Michael Trio.

Went there and told them that I am looking for a heart shaped diamond and gave them my 4C requirements. Then they showed me a few ready stocks but were not to my liking. So they told me to give them a day to source for a few more heart shapes and that they will contact me once they are ready. Looked at a few of their ring designs before leaving.

The next day they contacted me and asked me to go to their shop again to "view" the stones. When I was there, the sales assistant whipped out a few sheets of printed GIA certs and asked me to study the certs and let him know if I prefer any one of them. He then proceeded to take out his invoice book and started filling in my details. I opened eyes big big, told him to hold his horses and asked him how to choose. He said they did not have the actual stones with them and these were located somewhere in their "warehouse" so all I could do was to look at the proportions, the 4Cs etc. from the papers.

I straight thanked him for his efforts and left the place.

OH! geez, didnt know their customer service personnel are not professionally trained - or maybe its their SOP. Hmm, but the prices are quite competitive (in their website) vs. brian and whiteflash. As for JP, my bro just chose a flawless diamond, custom made his diamond ring to all things fancy - only 3ksgd+ quite affordable for flawless.

Anyone here knows does anywhere in Malaysia sell's temporary loose diamond holder? Thank you!

Buy from all. Then compared and see which one you want to use. tongue.gif

Both are good companies, produces good diamonds. JP's price I think is more expensive than WF/BGD, but if you are in SG, I think you can get the full JP experience by visiting their actual store and probably find the extra money worthwhile. However, if you are not in SG, then buying online is the same from whichever vendor. I will just list down what I think:

JP - Good optical precision, professional sales consultant to guide you, extensive inventory, therefore, somehow it is easier to get what you desire in terms of 4Cs. However, as mentioned, slighly pricey if not mistaken. Got SI from both reputable lab. So if you prefer GIA, they have it.

WF - Value for money price, inventory size is okay, but need more effort to filter out diamonds with better optical precision. Their recent stones that fall under ACA collection series are pretty good though.

BGD - Good optical precision, inventory size is not as great as the others. Slightly more expensive than WF, but should still be cheaper than JP.

Of course JP still win if you somehow need to visit them for whatever reasons because they are just down south.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the opinion, since its just 1 stone, JP SI the best so far compared to wf & bgd

Thanks bro! So far quoted 0.3 diamonds at SGD2k (all SI around 6k~Myr) - everything inclusive including ring works out to be around 8 to 9k myr for a 0.3 SI carat.

Sorry to interrupt, but 0.3ct at RM 6000 is crazy man.

This piece only needs around RM 4350 - 0.321ct E VVS1
https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/r...id=myengringexp (affiliate link)

This is also another fiery piece and needs around RM 4200 - 0.303 D VS1
https://black.briangavindiamonds.com/diamon...?a_aid=myengexp (affiliate link)

This is also another fiery piece and needs around RM 4350 - 0.332 E VVS1
https://black.briangavindiamonds.com/diamon...?a_aid=myengexp (affiliate link)

Of course, I am calculating using Malaysia 6% GST, if you are in SG then is 7% VAT.

So unless you really want to buy at a brick-and-mortar store than no choice la, but that's more than RM 1500 extra.

The price they quoted before so far was all their hearts & arrows - super ideals, no VS or VVS wor.

Hey GK,

Diamond can be received within a week, for example if you buy Monday, you most likely will receive it by Thursday. This is of course provided there are no holidays in the US, and also no hiccup (touch wood) for the whole process, which is usually the case. wink.gif

As for temporary ring holder, BGD does provide if you ask them to clip the diamond on it and put it in a ring box instead of using a loose diamond box. This has been tried by other ppl before.

As for WhiteFlash, no one actually told me they have tried it and I have never try before as well, so I can't say. But you can try ask. My guess is that they may be able to provide as well.

Thanks Kambingkoh for your advices and help.

My order process for BGD is now underway as Moneymatch is wiring the transfer. Will post my post-package collection reaction here for a Black by BG diamond. Very excited and at the same time prepping minimally for the big question.

I think i will prepare a dishwash or detergent bottle while proposing too. HAHA

Recently, news announced there will be no SST for jewelries.

Will any import from US etc for diamonds etc be exempted from this tax? just asking.

Hi all, need your opinion on wedding bands shop.

I am finalising DeGem in Malaysia, Venus Tears or JP in Singapore. Catch is that Love & Co wedding bands probably costs around rm6k~ ish for a good design for two pairs while Venus and JP in Singapore costs around SGD1.5k to 2k ish for a pair.

Reckon I might as well get from Love & Co? since the exchange works out to be the same. Looking for non-hypo metals i.e platinum.

thanks kambing for the Black BGD diamond previously! It really is a good diamond; also good comments from private jewelers.

Based on my experience from down south; If you dont have time to go KL etc, If any of you are in Singapore or Johor Bahru, If you prefer to shop something locally for a wedding band or diamond ring; besides BGD,WF and SG (JP), you can try Cupid Jewellery based in Johor Bahru run by a couple. Can customise wedding bands/rings and they also sell pretty good diamonds. Once the husband saw my diamond, immediately he say; oh, its a black. Good readings based on the dimensions cut etc.

If you have a budget for wedding bands alone below rm5k - try Litz (diamond & platinum) in city square for many many different choices. Plus point is free polish and clean - lifetime. While others not really, love & co is good but super expensive. Might as well put the money to stocks, downpayment for house or car, wedding.
