Need your suggestions and recommendations on my dilemma.

Currently running first generation i7 with Cooler Master V8 on LGA 1156. Saw the news release about upcoming i7-4790K!

It looks tempting with the 4GHz base frequency.

My question is: worth to upgrade if MSI upgrades the BIOS to support it?

My only costing will be the processor + a better cooler maybe as I have a MSI Z87 board with me unused lying around since I do not have any processor to install on it

Going to reuse all my existing components to it

Don't plan to overclock it since V8 performance is quite bad on my current rig so I am looking for highest base clock speed

Currently running multiple VMware deployment images for VPN/Server/Game/Work. Want to upgrade RAM but the price is sick at the moment.


I think should be fine since I don't plan to go crazy amount, maybe 4.6/4.8 at most but that's a later question.

And I just realised, I don't have any processor to run the board for BIOS update. I have no idea how to get this fixed first.



Edit: Another reason to upgrade is because I have CrossFire (6950) setup but my good board got fried and I am using only single GPU at the moment because CFX turns down the second PCI-E to X4 only on my current board and causes major stuttering in games

So yeah, my setup is broken at the moment. Can't find replacement board for my platform since it came out so long ago that supports X8/X8 PCI-E lanes and the risk of no warranty.
