Hello guys, i need opinion about non-oc rig below :

CPU - Intel i7 4790 @ 959
MOBO - Gigabyte h97-hd3 @ 359
GC - <can't decide yet, gtx760 or 770>
RAM - Kingston value ram 8gb @ 244
SSD - Kingston v300 240gb @ 419
HDD - WD blue 1tb @ 174
CASING - CM Storm Scout II BLK @ 309
PSU - Seasonic S Gold 650W @ 409
ODD - any DVD-RW @ 59

*all prices are from Viewnet

Total - RM2932 WITHOUT GRAPHIC CARD

is the spec above OK? or any changes to make it better? my budget for rig ONLY is around RM4k.

btw im nt sure whether to choose gtx760 or 770 as my graphic card.
please give me some comment on both of it because the price diff are around RM400 like tat and im nt sure whether gtx770 worth the price or not.
and i also want to know which brand for these graphic cards is the best <i prefer more silent one>

thank you biggrin.gif

Get a Xeon rather than a i7. Heck an i5 is good enough. In terms of gaming GPU is top priority. For 4k and getting a 760 is a huge waste. Is this a gaming rig or a workstation rig?

i use it for 3D software like autocad, solidwork etc for my assignment. otherwise i use it for gaming.
does xeon has hyper threading?

Usage?
If gaming..

i5 4460 3.2Ghz RM569
Asrock H97-Pro4 RM329
Sapphire R9 290 Vapor-X 4GB GDDR5 RM1659
Corsair Value Ram 8GB DDR4 1600MHz RM244
WD Caviar Blue 1TB RM174
Seasonic M12II 80+ Bronze Modular 620W RM359
Corsair Carbide Spec-03 Red LED FAN RM219
Liteon 24x DVDRW RM59
Intel 530 Series 120GB RM289
Total:RM3901
GPU and Casing are from IdealTech, the rest are from Viewnet@LYP.
*
i use it for 3d software for my assignment. otherwise gaming and normal usage.

i prefer system smoothness so i want a ssd that is enough for all programs in it and i feel 120gb is nt enough hmm.gif

i can cut cost for my graphic card as long as it can let me play games in high setting for 3 to 5 yrs and i would like to gv a try to nvidia since i have a bad time with my laptop amd card rclxub.gif

Yes a Xeon is basically an i7 without iGPU. So for a 4k rig I'd recommend this.

Proc - Xeon 1230V3 RM 799
Mobo - Asrock B85 Killer RM 299
HDD - 1TB WD Blue RM 189
GPU - Gainward GTX 770 Phantom RM 1299
PSU - Seasonic S12II 620w RM 299
SSD - Intel 530 Series 240G RM 599
Casing - CM Storm Scout II BLK RM 309
RAM - 8GB Value RAM RM 244

All for RM 4,037. Prices from Viewnet except GPU From Idealtech.
Yes it can, but you need to spend money on a lil' bit expensive Motherboard to get into the case. And the standard PSU size can be fitted into it.
*
so the performance will be same without iGPU?

Yeap, only difference is 0.1GHz slower than an i7. mod_po as an engineering student the Xeon really damn worth with a 770 ain't it?
*
but the new i7 4790 has 3.6GHz and up to 4.0GHz compared to Xeon E3 1230 v3 3.3GHz up to 3.7GHz

and i7 cost RM160 more than xeon e3 1230 v3. nt sure is it worth or not. hmm.gif

Actually 120GB is enough for mostly the OS and the Autocad Program/Application. You can just store your games in a normal HDD. Usually SSD is to store things that's need some fast booting or so whistling.gif
*

i think i would stick with 240gb ssd in case of anything, haha whistling.gif

Some say that the items already available just that viewnet hasn't updated yet hmm.gif
RM 160 for 0.3 GHz...yet the same core/threads. I don't know bout you but I don't think the speed will have a "huge" improvements when rendering.
*
then i wan to ask is thr any xeon proc in lowyat other than xeon e3 1230 v3? i din see any others in the price list.
if yes i might go for a better 1 brows.gif

guys i have few question before buying desktop tmr.

assuming i am using cm storm scout 2 casing : http://gaming.coolermaster.com/en/products/cases/scout_2/

how many casing fans do i need as i am not going to oc my comp? (i7 & gtx770)

where should those fans located at?

any good brand for casing fans? i prefer silence one.
i looked at cooler master casing fan and quite a number of negative comment. noctua and scythe gentle typhoon seems quite expensive, nt sure they worth or not blink.gif

all opinions are welcome and thanks for replying me biggrin.gif

if you are not going to OC, u can just stick back to stock fan. It is sufficient enough. Not needed to change it.
For casing fan, I also not very familiar, but it won't too expensive, mostly only Rm 20~30 I remember
*
then do you know how many casing fans needed for maintaining temperature around max 60'C?

i am planning 1 200mm fan at top, 2x 120mm fans at front and 1 120mm fan at rear for bitfenix raider casing : http://www.bitfenix.com/global/en/products...raider#overview

is that enough?

How old is your PC? You may have to clean the heatsink due to dust buildup on it.
*
i just bought it not even 1 months.. idle is around 55'C.. nt sure what happened?

Must be thermal compound or air flow issue or your area is hot. Try putting your PC directly infront of window or entrance of your room. Direct the exhaust to it.
*
my casing has 2x 120mm front intake fan, 1x 120mm rear exhaust fan and 1x 200mm top exhaust fan.
i think thr is no problem with the surrounding since my graphic card is able to run at 40'C idle and max 70'C on gaming.

and also even i set cpu fan to 100% the temp like no decrease oso. i checked online n my cpu fan is installed correctly.

Definitely thermal compound issue then. Try replacing it with better ones like Arctic Cooling MX-4.
*
ok i will go buy it.. but before applying it do i need to remove the previous thermal compound? or jz str8 apply on it? nvr do this b4, thx ya

You will need to clear the old one. Use tissue then Alcohol Swab then wipe it clean with tissue. You can get Alcohol Swab from pharmacy.
