Hi I would like to ask for some ideas, if my new house won't be installing any plaster ceiling, what are the lighting options and designs that i can have? I do not want to have the one long fluorescent tube light or the rounded fluorescent tube light. I wanted something like LED as well to save cost on electricity on the long run and also decently presentable. May i know the options that i have?

Reason of not wanting to install plaster ceiling is because the house ceiling height is not very high and also i wanted to save money on spending on the plaster ceiling.

THanks,

You can have concealed wiring in ceiling but have the wires ready for the light position. They can be designer or simple and classic like these?

Nowdays got led bulbs available too.

thks for the replies so far...
ya just to clarify at the moment is just plain ceiling

Based on S'aimer's suggestions, for that to happen means i will need to hack the ceiling wall right in order to extend the wiring since at the moment the wiring is at the center only.

Yes, just a few holes and most electrician will know how to do it. But need to get someone to help patch back and make sure the patched area done properly without any leaking issue.

No plaster ceiling in whole house? Then, I will perhaps have some pendant lights, track lights or maybe some squarish ceiling light like following:

You can consider using pipes to hide and run the wiring . This will also help you position the lighting points at strategic places. It is an industrial design/raw ID that is getting popular now. Hanging lamps goes well with the kind of setup.

You could go for ceiling fans with LED lights.

Fluorescent tube from day 1 invented till now is still the best energy saving tube when considering surface area it can cover, comparing to any T5, LED, down lights in the market. Not yet talk about the initial cost needed and the life span of them.

I also want my high ceiling and not do plaster...

The long fluorescent tubes are the best workhorses, if you don't mind the lack of aesthetics

Forget the round donut fluorescent tubes, nobody use them anymore. Get dim and burns out fast. And when changing the donut tube also have to change the starter and holder because they get brittle being exposed to the UV light from the tube. I know bcos I got 10 of them, and really regret that.

I am all for trying out the LEDs. The prices are coming down, and the new generation ones are brighter than the usual fluor. Tried out one cheapo LED bulb for 6 months, and happy with it.

So if I manage to persuade my wife, all the rooms in my new house will have ceiling LED lights. something like these.
They cost less RM100 and if can last 3 year I am happy. The only problem I have with them is the brightness can hurt your eyes if your look at them directly.

Living and dining I think the boss still wants downlight....
Or maybe if I can afford these designer LEDs, can slowtalk her brows.gif

For non plaster ceiling the options are:

Ceiling mounted
LED surface mounted general lighting - e.g. https://shopee.com.my/OSRAM-10W-20W-LED-SUR...5871.2308853413
Theres also surface mounted downlights which are more focused

Pendant lights hanging lower than the ceiling. This can be an easy option if you want to avoid ceiling fan disco light effect. By simply lowering the light to below or nearly same height as fan, you eliminate light shining on the fan blade so 0 disco problem. - e.g. https://www.ikea.com/my/en/p/hektar-pendant...-grey-80390359/

T5 LED batten - e.g. https://shopee.com.my/PHILIPS-LED-T5-Batten...9231.4323214622

Wall mounted
Mood light or other wall lamps as you like.

Still looks a bit pricey option, just curious if they is any DIY cove to complement the T5 LED batten.
