When you refridgerate, you slow their growth and keep them fresh from mites... but then, I don't see the point also coz I want fat mealworms, they become beetles also good coz my hedgie likes them hahahah....

btw, how's the mix?
*
Whoa fresh from mites...that would be good. ohmy.gif Scared if the mites kena to the glider la. Can meh? But aiya, cannot la keep in the fridge -- doh.gif Any ways to like make sure it doesn't get mites infested? I bought RM1 worth of the worms today -- gutloading them with oat bran, carrots and apples.

And with regards to the mix, he ate it! I put a teaspoon in with a tiny bit of apple and pear, two corns, two peas, two carrots and two green beans and he ate it. Well, all of it cept for most of the veggies la -- which hopefully he'll chew on by the time morning comes. Haha the first time he ate it, I think he got a bit of a brain freeze cause it was still sort of cold laugh.gif

It's good so far! Thanks a lot!

Also anybody has any other advise on how to trim their nails? I am going crazy from all the scratches rclxub.gif They actually have such long nails it keeps getting caught on my shirt everytime they move! And they actually bit and scratched me yesterday! I think Roscoe was angry because I grabbed him off my shoes, he likes bitting shoes! I have long scratches all along my neck!  icon_question.gif

PS: Giving mealworms doesn't help. They swallow the mealworms the moment they get it. Can't trim their nails that fast.
Try to get them more bonded to you first then only try to cut their nails la -- when they're asleep. I'm not going to bother to cut mine although he allows me to hold his hand when he's asleep. His nails don't bother me and he doesn't really grip hard on my arms so -- for now it's fine.

At least yours are eating the mealworms -- mine don't want to touch it! He ate the green peas and carrots instead! lol i'm going to have to mash them up maybe. Adoi.... sweat.gif

And Hun! I'm so happy -- I woke up to an empty dish! He finished everything! And then this morning I gave him a small piece of pear to chew on -- he wouldn't touch the mealworm. Haih.

Thanks thanks.... which mix did you let your little boy try? Oh yah, you don't need to add honey in if he takes it straight now... it's sweeten with blackcurrants and apple juice already.

LOL, I test my own mixes on myself before on my glider. So if it taste good to me, taste good to glider also.
I gave him the mix fruits one. Will let him eat this for three days first la only I will let him try the other one. Scared he gets confused with the change. Cause I'm trying to get him to eat his veggies too. First night eating vegetables yesterday and he did fine. Yay!

Now...for the mealworms. rclxub.gif

Misa, I am not sure how bonded they are to me as I usually play with them when I have time and that isn't much. At least everyday though  tongue.gif I have tried to cut their nails while they are sleeping. I am not koking when I say that Roscoe can really sleep soundly in my hand. But he wakes up once I start cutting his nails and starts crying.
*
Your gliders sound so cute -- I wish you all the best with attempting to cut their fingernails smile.gif I watched a friend of mine cut his glider's nails before. He let the glider sleep on a towel on his thigh and then when the fella's asleep he slowly cuts the nails. If he wakes up, then he'll pat him back to sleep. He told me that it took him a while la -- practice, practice, practice. thumbup.gif

Mine barks when he wants attention but he rarely does it la. Usually it happens at 4am. His cage is next to my bed so he'll be hanging at the bars and looking at me. Then I just call out his name a few times and then he'll start heading off to play again. Very cute la.

laugh.gif

And so far so good! He still comes out of his coconut shell/pouch to pee and poop. Hope he keeps this up.

In two hours time I'm going to prepare his dinner. I'm hoping he'll clean out his plate this time too. I'm so happy that he ate all of his vegetables yesterday.

Haih, so geram la -- the mealworms now attract a few fruit flies already. Geram geram. The only thing I can't stand about gliders is having to feed them mealworms la. I don't mind touching the worms but keeping them in the house -- aiyo...summore this fella won't eat it anyways. Cut into half also dowan. Squeeze the juice out also dowan.

Thank god with a BML diet, he won't be needing the mealworms. But I'll keep trying to give him the worms la. Maybe one day, he'll eat it. sweat.gif

Hmm okay will try that hehe but if susah susah haih nevermind la he'll have to make do without the worms. Give him blended chicken mix with apple juice and other protein sources. blush.gif

laugh.gif It's amazing how you guys can bring your animals out to mamak stores and such. I want to bring mine out to the living room also I damn scared already.

Good news! He ate two mealworms this morning. I cut the heads off then he got interested in 'em. My friends were like "eew what the hell" cause we were all eating Nasi Lemak. I told them it's my new ikan bilis. laugh.gif

He's a good boy so far. Finished up his dinner last night too. But whoa -- today I woke up and noticed a sort of musky smell in the room. Cleaned his cage out but uh oh... whistling.gif

Speaking of clean ups. Their cage really stinks! Even after changing the bedding it stinks! The only think that helps curb the smell is to wash everything in soap and hot water. Anyone know what contributes to the smell? Sometimes they smell all musky.

Also the other day I had to wipe a whole load of crap right at the corner of the branch. Amazes me that they can poop so much on a high slightly sharp branch, right at the tip.
*
Yeah, my glider's cage smelled musky too yesterday and...I don't know -- mebbe a little fishy too sweat.gif But it wasn't the glider -- it was the branch. Sometimes he pees on it. What I did was I left it out in the sun for a few hours, together with the coconut shell and I gave the cage a good wipedown and all is fine now. The males might be marking at the branch la. Cause man, the branch sure did stink. Well, not as bad as hamsters but it wasn't a pleasant smell blush.gif What this means is I'm going to have to sun the branch every few days or so. I don't want it to become infested with god knows what. I'll probably change the branch every three months or so -- the coconut shell just as well.

And well, with male gliders -- as they grow older -- they'll smell different laugh.gif that's to be expected tongue.gif

No, no please don't misunderstand tongue.gif gliders don't smell bad at all. They're the best smelling animals I've ever had hehe it's just that I tend to notice when there's a change but for a lot of people, it's unnoticeable even. but one thing though, gliders are not easy to care for -- what with their special dietary needs hehe. now i know that i wouldn't recommend getting a glider to just about anyone. having one is just like taking care of a little baby laugh.gif

hi hi! I read from the first few posts (very informative btw! tq! tq! thumbup.gif) that I can feed my SG raisins.. But it also says that canned foods should be avoided since they contain extra salt and sugar.

So would I be able to feed my SG raisins off the shelf from the supermarket? Right now I'm looking at the small box of Ligo California seedless raisins.

Would it be okay to feed that to my SG? Or can someone recommend a brand of raisins?

California Raisins! The one in the red box! tongue.gif

www.greenigsociety.org  <---there is a vege list n wheter it r staple anot....but it is for iguana...wonder it suites the glider ?

what time should I feed them ? morning or evening ? rclxub.gif

No, no please do not bath them. And do not hairdry them either -- their ears are very sensitive to heat and it'll get burnt. Buy some baby wipes from the store and wipe them with those. They usually groom themselves. Just give them some time to get used to the new environment and you. You can help them by wiping their fur with the baby wipes. If they're still not accustom to you, it's alright, just keep their cage clean and go slowly. Don't try to to give them a shower or they might be afraid of you for good and never bond to you. You need patience when handling these gentle creatures. Never force them out or do something they don't want to do.

They're shivering most likely because they're a little scared right now. Take it slow. Feed them. Talk to them from next to the cage. They'll recognize your voice soon enough and understand that you're not there to harm them.

Here's a good article on how to bond with your gliders --> http://www.sugargliderinfo.com/Bonding/

I'm going to start using the BML diet for my glider. Here's a link.

http://www.sugargliderinfo.com/NutritionAn...s/leadbeat.html

It might look difficult, but gliders have special dietary needs. Not feeding them enough of one thing or feeding them too much of something else can lead to health problems = death. Also, you might want to get in touch with crazymouse on the forum if you're not going to work on your own glider mix -- she has a special glider mix available that you can purchase.

I feed my glider with the glider mix + frozen veggies (2 corns, 2 peas, 2 green beans, 2 carrots) + 2 different types of fruits (small pieces of either the following fruits --> Apples, Grapes, Watermelon, Cantalope, Melon, Frozen Pitted Cherries & Blueberries).

Other stuff that can be fed (but don't overdo it with the quantity) --> pineapple, peaches, apples, pears, strawberries, banana, cantaloupe, honeydew, melons, grapes, papaya, apricots, oranges, corn, sweet potatoes, squash, fruit juices, blueberries, dried fruit, fruit jams, assorted baby foods, low-fat deli turkey and ham, raisins, carrots, mealworms, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, dried peas.

There are a few proven diets on the net that can be followed. I'm going to use the BML diet. You stick to the BML mix + frozen veggies (2 corns, 2 peas, 2 green beans, 2 carrots) + 2 different types of fruits (small pieces of either the following fruits --> Apples, Grapes, Watermellon, Cantalope, Melon, Frozen Pitted Cherries & Blueberries). And you don't add anything else to it so it won't throw off the ratio.

Here's the Nutritional Analysis for the BML Diet:

Proximates:
Water: 528.33 g
Energy: 1053.19 kcal
Protein: 37.3925 g
Fat: 21.3 g
Ash: 4.82875 g
Carbohydrates: 196.541 g
Fiber, total dietary: 4.365 g

Minerals:
Calcium: 419.99 mg [DOES NOT INCLUDE REPCAL]
Iron: 15.083 mg
Magnesium: 160.95 mg
Phosphorous: 679.38 mg
Potassium: 953.925 mg
Sodium: 187.64 mg
Zinc: 7.086 mg
Manganese: 3.982 mg
Selenium: 59.705 mcg
Vitamin C, total ascorbic acid: 44.5015 mg
Thiamin: 1.5 mg
Riboflavin: 1.269 mg
Niacin: 13.26 mg
Vitamin B6: .927 mg
Folate, total: 130.967 mcg
Vitamin B-12: 1.439 mg
Vitamin A: 422.02 IU
Vitamin E: 1.243 mg

I feel its easier to stick to the BML diet, it's a proven diet that is being used by many sugar glider owners and it takes away the stress of thinking about what fruits to purchase (from the many many many different types of fruits available) and whether it's good enough for the glider. sweat.gif

Here's how I feed my glider -->

Morning -- 4 small mealworms
Afternoon -- small pieces of fruit (maybe an apple or some melon -- cube size)
Night -- glider mix + veggies + fruits

You can feed them with some yoghurt (using your finger) to help with the bonding process. But with the BML diet, you don't need any additional fruits and stuff because you might throw off the ratio. They sleep for most of the day anyways.

You have to feed them everyday. Not feeding them for just one day will stress them out and it'll be bad for their health. Maybe someone can help to babysit them for you. Please ask around. These gliders need loads of care and attention. They're different from any other animals.

And that Rene has taken to biting just for the heck of it!  vmad.gif She bite when she is sitting on me, or climbing all over me. And she actually bites really hard! For no reason at all! In fact I only brought her out of her cage when she insisted on it. I don't understand... How to stop the biting?
*
Tell her nooooo! Everytime she does it just say NOOOO! tongue.gif And then after a while she will get the idea that everytime she bites she'll hear that annoying NOOOO! Hehe. Try la. But there are very curious animals la -- they're always biting to test test and see whether edible or not. Mine likes to groom me these days. And he'll take a nibble of my skin la but it doesn't hurt because he's not really biting down on it.

*
Yeah surely they don't understand the word No but the sound of it irritates and annoys them -- actually it distracts them -- supposedly they forget la that they're supposed to be biting you. So just keep repeating No No No No No and they'll stop. And if they try to bite you again, repeat it hehe

Nugget -- aiyo where did you lose your gliders la? Did you leave the cage open or what? Try to get some mealworms -- cut the heads off and leave it in the middle of the floor and watch and see -- mebbe they'll come of their hiding place. sad.gif Since they haven't bonded to you yet -- even if you try looking for them -- they'll be afraid of you -- but if they're sleeping, if you look around quietly then you might be able to spot them. Take a cloth and pick them up -- easier a bit. Hope you'll find them!

You can go to Natural Aquatic if you're living in PJ area -- for glider cages -- or Ikano's Pet Safari -- all about RM100. You can go to Irene's Aquarium in KL, Jalan Pasar for cheaper cages.

My glider doesn't bark and he's very quiet. So chances are they're still in the house - they're just very good at hiding. ;0; Leave some fruits out in the middle of the hall and in each room (close the doors) and check to see a few hours later whether they have eaten any of it then you'll know where they are.
