cute picccs!!! anyway, juz wanna ask someting, will the gliders jump off ur pocket when u take it out? or u guys got a leash for them?
*
blergh. never happen tongue.gif gliders come out.. play play on lrt... see the rapid kl dude... faster hide... actually if I wasn't too lazy to go dig them out I'd let them run around free in the house even.. but my house so messy. one day I left Pie on the exercise bike... she go climb over to the bottom of the staircase... over to the kitchen, looking for me. sleep.gif

donny also... can go behind the radio.. or the back seat area of the car... call him he'll come back over...

seriously, tame gliders won't just go running around. our gliders can either choose to sit on our shoulder... and crawl back into their pouches when they're tired.

sugre, I just get whatever bag I think looks suitable for them. nothing special. pie's current bag is like a soft PDA/Handphone bag... from thailand... and donny's was bought at the stalls under the Imbi monorail..

Yes, I bought it from Pet Safari. But woh.. the price increase already. I bought it for RM 25 if I remember correctly.

I think that's just a supplement.... I mean, referring to the ingredients.

the one hun was talking about comes in a rather big tub. looks nasty to me. >_< Slurp serving me well. after all, glider mix has been used by glider keepers and breeders internationally. plus we know what's going into the food. we even taste it ourselves. I'm waiting for my gliders to grow a little bigger first before I add honey into the mix. It'll taste even better with honey biggrin.gif

I change the flavours (I have 2-3 flavours stashed in the fridge) alternately. the babies love the stuff. everytime also polish their plates and eat until they look like hamsters sleep.gif and another good bit is that the food is watery so they get water as well cuz my gliders quite dumb dunno how to use the water bottle sweat.gif before this I also pour some milk (lactose and soy product free for pets) on top of the mix before serving.

the picture is right after meal time. just took.tongue.gif notice the freakishly large tummy. larkowen, if you're looking, that's your glider.

guys, may i know what kind of cat kibbles that you feed to your gliders? any specific brand name?
*
actually I'd lean more towards dog food because cats are strictly carnivorous while gliders arent. they're omnivourous so dog food would be more suited for them since gliders, like dogs, take veggies, fruits and grains as well as meat. I've never tried kibbles before. only wet food. But do go for holistic food only. Look through the ingredients and make sure they are all acceptable by gliders.

Finally got the SG from Connie.

Well, the SG is quite stubborn and bad-tempered....Maybe because I'm his new owner..

Anyway,he's sleeping now...Guess don't disturb him much...

How often should I feed him?
*
I've been keeping him for over month already and he's been fine with me. you're his new owner and he's still trying to get used to his new surrounding. don't be afraid of him. bond with him.

feed him every morning and night.

QUOTE(larkowen @ Aug 27 2006, 10:05 PM)
No idea how my SG escaped from the caged but managed to catch it back..

He's extremely fierce...Try to feed him but kena bite instead....Always make the annoying sound when i approach him..

What can I do?
*
aiyoh.. he's not fierce la... he escaped from his cage... lost in a place where he has no familiarity of... and then suddenly this dude that he barely knows comes running after him. not scared meh?

what you do is, get a pouch or place him in your pocket. let him get used to u. gain his trust. cuz seriously, he's fine with me because he recognises me.

QUOTE(TAGreptiles @ Aug 27 2006, 11:27 PM)

QUOTE(nugget @ Sep 16 2006, 08:38 PM)
hi all,

do I tame my gliders like they tame iguana?
my fren are telling me that his gliders are sleeping in the nite n play with him day time...isn't they sleep at day n wake at night ?
how to convert their sleeping timing ?

any1 here bought adult glider n tame it ?I have a problem now...buying adult gliders which I shouln't...thanks 4 the help
*
uh.... gliders are nocturnal. they shouldn't be very active in the day and please do not attempt to "convert their sleeping timing".

it's a very huge misconception that bonding and taming gliders means you have to play with them 24/7. you're gonna stress that poor thing and can die from stress.
bonding with gliders in the day means you keep it by your body in a pouch (PDA pouch or something). some girls here do "bra bonding". guys can put the glider in their shirt pockets. the glider will be sleeping and at the same time, getting used to your smell and they will appreciate your body heat and breathing movements. take them out for lunch, handfeeding them worms and fruits.

play with them at night while they're active.

adult gliders are extremely hard to tame. put a smelly t-shirt over the cage or as a lining of it's sleeping area to let it get used to your scent. slowly gain its trust by handfeeding. be prepared to get bitten and scratched at though. if you can't handle that, it'd be quite hard to tame.

My pie pie so clever rclxms.gif Taggy's sisters play with her but left her in her bag downstairs. the bag zipped. she learned how to open the zip already. so anyway, she opened the zip, found her way upstairs... looking for taggy. morning mummy see her playing with my meow (Tremmie). Now she's not scared of Tremmie already. lol.

Just now brought Kiah to Izzi restaurant at Bukit Bintang hahaha.... she had a taste of ice lemon tea and had fun crawling all over me... should see those people, staring at me  tongue.gif

use a studry material-ed bag la. the one I"m using one is denim. she can't really chew a hole in it. Donny's bag is slowly being destroyed. lol. he naughty.

Pie loves ice cream. hee hee. the other day she kena 2 drops kopi-o ping... so bloody hyper for like 10 hours. lol. jumping all over the bunk (train)

well, they like the outdoors alot in my opinion and when you really bond with them, they won't stray. they're very loyal critters. smile.gif

Hey guys, I just picked up my SG from Larkowen. So far, he's been quite nice. Just that he barks a bit at night. Any suggestions on how to help him quite down?
*
doh.gif

Larkown bought a male glider from me not too long ago. if it wasn't for the fact that I saw how inquisitive of him and such and somewhat desperate to get a glider, I wouldn't have sold it to him. I'm guessing the glider he sold to you was from me. sheesh. poor lil fella. being tossed around is not good for a baby glider. did he sell you the cage and all as well? rush me so much and see what he does.

he sold the hermit crabs that he bought from me too.

QUOTE(misa @ Sep 19 2006, 12:27 PM)

haha. we usually carry a 3cm container full of mealworms. Pie take ALOT of mealworms.

QUOTE(snx8 @ Sep 20 2006, 08:25 PM)
Would it be okay to feed that to my SG? Or can someone recommend a brand of raisins?
*
raisins are fine as a treat. as long as they didn't add any sugar and other funny stuff in it, should be fine.

QUOTE(nugget @ Sep 21 2006, 12:00 AM)
hi all,

advise needed. I bought the glider few days ago...fully grown adult..
they smell stink...and their fur is dirty...how to bath em ?
izzit correct to use water spray to spray @ them n use a hair dryer?

they seems shivering...is tht their nature or they are scared?
if I keep on try to play n try to tame em...how do I knw they are stress?
*
er... you can't bathe a glider. they easily catch colds. plus the hair dryer is just gonna burn them.

use baby wet wipes (fragrance and alcohol free). it's not in their "nature" to be scared. it's normal to be scared when they're introduced into a new environment especially with adult gliders that have had either too little contact with humans or have been throwned around amongst different owners.

the signs of stress can be quite scary varying from a mere constant back flips to fur pulling and feet chewing. again, you don't have to "play" with the gliders so much to tame them. just keeping them close to your body.. handfeeding.. is bonding. try your best to not poke at them when they're sleeping.

QUOTE(nugget @ Sep 22 2006, 07:38 AM)
wow...means that I have to make it a time table.. Iwork long hour n airport...wonder if it can like skip meal for a day or else...thanks for all the food info ya guys...really do enlight my blur...going back homtown later...hope it wont starve to death....
*
bring your glider with you is your best bet or get a glider sitter. gliders shouldn't miss meals. I brought my glider to penang with me for holiday. sit train. no problem. a small cage does come in handy.

QUOTE(nugget @ Sep 22 2006, 04:36 PM)
how much chance to a pair of glider that made a great escape to back to their cage ? hahahaha....

not even three days...kiss goodbye to rm350...if I know I would have bought baby n tame 1....realy assssss.....

I have a few question :

1st I notice sg do poop n pee alot in what ever place u prepare for them be it coconut shell or hiding hole...how u guys tolerate that? change the hiding hole often?

2nd any1 know bout this stuff "moringa" its leaf have lot of nutrition...but wonder it suites SG

3rd if u keep them in pocket while they sleep...u keep in pairs or each a polket ?

edit 1 more question

4th.this is d second day the new pair of glider in my cage...feed them carrot=dowan orange=dowan apple=yes papaya=yes...
should I start make them glider mix or...go slow...I scared they are not enuff vitamin lar
*
put tissues or a cloth in the hide. change often.

er... I put in a pouch.

carrots are not all that well accepted. apples most widely accepted. grapes too and rambutan. anyways, they can't live off fruits. make or buy a glider mix for them. never too young or too old for the mix.

QUOTE(nugget @ Sep 24 2006, 08:34 PM)
may I have the name for the calcium powder, vitamin?
what is magic powder ?
JB dunno where can get...

*
calcium powder get sera (reptimineral-c for reptiles). good brand. vitamin can go for canopy small animal vitamin.

how very sad indeed.....

Can't resist the "cute" joey they selling and just buy on impulse!!!

I had the privilege to witness this young and naive girl who bought a glider from Pet Safari. I do not think that the joey will survive because this young lady seemed really oblivious and clueless about SGs. She do not even dare to hold on to the joey for more than 10 mins. I made a prayer for that joey because she intends to feed it the glider pellet sold at the shop also.

And she bought the smallest bird cage to house the poor joey.... rclxub.gif  rclxms.gif .....what can be more perfect than that!!?

The sad thing is, I do not think those people working in Pet Safari is educated in the first place. They just sell and do not even know that there are stuff like SG Mix and they need to be in pairs. If they know, the least they could do is educate potential buyers....

MALAYSIA BOLEH, APA PUN BOLEH!!!!

actually, you can advise all you want but there are loads of customers who just do not listen because they always think that they're right. so, at a point, you just get fed up. you teach them so much... blablabla... in the end, no point. it's not because sellers undereducated although I do know sellers who really couldn't be bothered. lol. a supplier got fed up with this seller I know that he told her to just feed the gliders Fuji apples. and there you go... you get sellers who go around telling people that gliders only eat fuji apples. lol.

pet stores stock up on pet food. they're not gonna tell you to make your own food when they sell a certain food. they can't tell the customer that this or that is not good. if it;s not good then why sell em yeah? and no, gliders do not have to be in pairs. I sell many gliders singly and frankly I find most of them to be much better off singly compared to many of the ones I sold in pairs because the single glider gets very attached to their owner and vice versa. they're not such a handful that the owner would get tired of them and always take for granted that the pair can entertain themselves.

QUOTE(InfiniteVoid @ Sep 26 2006, 09:13 AM)
Provided you have time to take care of it. Bring it everywhere you go and play with it when it is active. For a student, it shouldn't be a big problem bcoz most of the time you can still trade off the time to partner with your glider. But for working, it is different story. It is highly depend on your working environment. Not all the environment encourage you to bring along your partner to working place. Having a pair is highly recommend for those who can't sacrifice enough time with your glider.

For the sake of headache later, it is always recommend to have in pair instead of single.
*
I've always informed my customers on the conditions of keeping gliders singly. wouldn't recommend it to people keep gliders in cage most of the time and only take them out when they feel like playing with them. I don't recommend keeping singly to everyone. only to some people.

gliders are actually not as bothersome as people think. even when it comes to some working environment. gliders are very easy pets to smuggle into the work place. lol. I can work at a cosmetic counter and a strict and high end mall and still bring my glider. my mom brings her glider to work and so does her colleague. A friend of ours brought his glider to work with him. My cousin is a kindergarten teacher and she brings her glider to work. they are very well behaved in the day. they sleep most of the time.

personally for me, a single glider is more suited for my lifestyle. when Pie goes hyper, I'm already having a hard time keeping up with her. imagine 2 gliders. during travel, it's definitely easier to care for 1 glider.

Pie isn't alone though. she has a friend, Donny. Even though they are attached to different owners and live in different cages, they get along when I pop pie into donny's cage.

I dunno, I guess I find that there are quite a number people who keep gliders in pairs, take for granted that they can neglect their gliders. Coming back from work... tired... not gonna play with the gliders. they can keep each other company. just feed them will do. even for myself I feel that way when I had to babysit a bunch of gliders. it has crossed my mind a couple of times that feeding will do because the gliders can entertain each other. they won't be lonely. but when I'm having only one glider, I push myself to play with them and spend time with them with the fear that they'll get lonely. and we all know how bad is the effect of loneliness towards gliders.

also, because many owners just cage up their gliders, they get less attached to their gliders. I mean, there sure are a bunch of people who can't handle their gliders at all. can't cut their nails... bites, scratches, jumping everywhere despite having kept them for a long time. when you guys see Pie with Taggy and Donny with my mom.... they're so affectionate. my cousin's glider cries for her when she went out of the room and when she returned, he came running towards her. our friend's glider would wait at the door in the morning, knowing that she'll be brought to work. Donny snuggled up to my mom when she just came home from a 3 day trip to sarawak.

for people who wanna keep gliders for the sake of it, keep at least in a pair. for people who wants a companion, it's ok to keep only one. they are great companions.

If you understand this little creature, you won't say that.

aih... price wise... yes, many people take advantage of the fact that a certain pet is cheap. I mean, like hamsters. if it's dead, so what? not much big of a loss. but it's kinda like human nature that we appreciate things that are more expensive unfortunately. so yeah, defintiely if the price goes lower (it already has tremendously), people will surely take advantage of that. but even if the price was high there will be many idiots who take care of their gliders badly.

however, I don't have to get my critters at high prices in order to treat them well. once you bond with a critter, even if they are free, you'd still appreciate them. obviously, I get my gliders cheaper than many others. my hedgehog was only RM50... and yet they get the proper care that they need and given the right food to eat.

the best, despite whether the gliders are cheap or not, is not to have impulsive buyers. that's the main problem here. most glider owners are either lazy to read up on proper care or merely rely on pet store and seller information. feed your gliders apples their whole life... that whole life would be 8 months. don't feed your gliders and calcium supplement (milk and yogurt even)... your gliders will always look like it's "flying"....

that would work if the glider was yours. when you're babysitting someone else's glider... it wont be about trust because the glider has put its trust on its owner. only reason it's not biting and making a fuss is because it's tame.

sugre, it's not impossible that your glider simply doesn't click with you. it happens. like Donny, he couldn't click with his previous owner to the point that he was returned but he clicked with my mom.
my mom's friend's gliders... the male doesn't click with her but clicks with the sister. only the female clicks with her.
