I'm not sure about the benefits from Maxis. But as I mentioned a few times in here, there's nothing to lose even it is 2 years contract only. Work hard and hopefully, you'll be rewarded with a permanent position. Even if they decided not to extend your contract, the experience you have in your pocket is sufficient for you to land another job easily. Good luck and enjoy your new job

Ok, to be brutally honest, my friend who was also offered a 2 year contract with Maxis based in Subang Hi-Tech complained a lot about the job and the benefits.
Fact: As a contract employee, your basic will be higher but your benefits will not be as good as permanent Maxis employees. Fact: As an operations support engineer, be prepared to work on weekends and on night shifts. |

i thought Maxis' pay scale is quite low right? It's like a fresh grad can't get more than RM1600 (contract)

well, the chances of getting a permanent contract are somewhere near zero. Its the maxis policy now. Once the two years are up, they *might* renew the contract, but it will be for another 2 years, or 6 months, depending how long they need you or how long before they can replace you with a new person who will accept a lower salary.
contract wise, your salary will be generally higher in exchange for less benefits and longer working hours. It would be a good experience if you're a fresh grad looking to get a foothold in the job market as maxis experience will look good on your resume. |

Yeah, to be honest, a lot of companies are moving into that policy and hire based on contract. Easy to trim staff that they don't want and cheaper solution.

operation support engineer, in telecommunications... hmmm. here is a possible career path.
2 yrs contract with Maxis. Learn all the basics of operations support in BSS (radio) or NSS (core network), become confident with the equipments, try to aim for 3G support. Make contacts with the vendors (Nokia, Ericsson, Alcatel, ...) End of the 2 yrs. Apply for a job at other operators, or better, the telco vendors. After 2 or 3 more years, once you feel solid enough, become a telecom consultant or a freelance, worldwide. Between 10k to 20k / month + trips all over the world Have fun... Construction can be good too, but i have no experience with that. |

Shift to other telcos from Maxis means 24hour resignation. Usually it comes with most companies when you are moving to a competitor.

take it for the experience and knowledge. They are not 'kedekut' when providing training to the staff. Some of my friends who were previously contract staff have been upgraded to permanent

I think you will jump also after 2 years. So the contract is just a win win situation for both parties.
That's a good place to start with, if you're a fresh grad. Don't think have to think twice. |
