If you take photo and video mix, 1GB is not enough. At least 2GB. I ve experience this during holiday. Just 1 place visit will take 2gb+ of memory when shooting mix.Canon PowerShot S3 IS

QUOTE(julchin_09 @ Oct 23 2006, 02:16 AM) Yeah. I'd say if video recording is included, The S3IS Really eats up the mem in minutes. You'll need 2GB at least, and 4GB would be comfy and a dream for me. Half and hour of video recording with STEREO Sound.... wah..... 4GB is too expensive. My solution is get the data bank. The space can last for your long holiday.Whats the price for 4GB now? |

QUOTE(julchin_09 @ Oct 24 2006, 12:45 PM) Just wondering about the cost for 4GB cos I like everything to be in the cam and not have to cart along more stuff since I already bring a lense + adapter. Also I bring my lightweight notebook everywhere so a data-bank is not needed.... It won't take much space actually. I just keep it in my waist bag. I too bring along my lightweight notebook and some EXt Hdd. But most of the time I keep those thing in hotel. Just carry my camera and databank in my waist bag. |

I put my original canon bag one side. It look bulky to me and less side pouch to keep others thing. Maybe will sell it away. I brought another one with vertical place the camera, got side pouch and strap to belt securely. I feel the camera when place vertical, can deploy fast.

QUOTE(julchin_09 @ Nov 13 2006, 02:12 AM) When I got my S3....WHAT OPTION? I get a free gift bag from canon boot after I brought the S3 and show them the receipt. Got 2 choice. Either big camera bag or leather original pouches. Since I got the original puoches, I choose the big camera bag. It is soft camera bag which can fold up small when not in use. Not much useful for me. Envious of those who got 2 leather CANON pouches at the Midvalley Cam fair. But then with all the accessories put in, even that won't fit. In the end still have to hunt for a bigger bag. |

I don't see why the S3IS cannot take those kind of photo. There is not much different the S3 with DSLR for normal user. Just limited by our imaginative and creative.

QUOTE(amdx @ Nov 26 2006, 05:07 PM) i think s3IS will not be able to capture something like the posted photos. like the DOF as in dSLR. (unless u customize ur s3is adapter ring to use bigger lense like alot of photofreaks did) Is there any technique to overcome this DOF on S3IS? Maybe got other way to do. Why need that high ISO to take a picture? Any ISO over 400, I consider poor quality picture. I use it only in desperate situation. Even DSLR can shoot a better picture in high ISO, but the noise is still there. I think everybody will try to avoid it.it's different hardware and technology la. aperture is one thing. the image sensor is the main point about DSLR. bigger sensor produce better quality, lower noise and shallower DOF.. and what's more? higher ISO with same noise. generally, most of the DSLR's sensors are about 23x16mm in size.. what's the sensor size of S3IS? 1/2.5" = around 5.76mm x 4.29mm. guys, get real. the hardware speaks itself. u might get something 'look-alike' but do check out the imagine quality produced by dSLR and compare to a pro-sumer, it's precisely as per stated in the hardware specs. just my 2 cents. sorry man.. not to put ice on ur head.. just to share constructive view for those potential S3IS buyers as well as dSLR buyer. atleast they know what they would be getting before they made up their mind to purchase one. i love S3IS too! but to compare it with a dSLR... it's different category la. rite? I m not good in picture taken neither camera technique, but I think many technique nowaday can overcome the camera shortage function. The DLSR is still the best for exthausit (eh..how to spell that huh) or amateur maybe. That I don't deny it. |

QUOTE(CashewsNut @ Dec 29 2006, 11:06 AM) I got S1IS 2 year ago, recently the cam is having some problem, i send it back to repair. GUESS what, I GOT a new S3IS replacement for FOC! due to spare parts have to wait for 3 month. What! Canon Canot repair an old camera and replace a new S3IS for FREE? You must be kidding me. I would said canon really providing good customer service!!. you might want to go for my website to check the photo out. http://www.zorpia.com/kokkein/album/ <<hope you will not abuse the photo those photo that start with "christmas" is taken using S3IS - 2 folder the rest is taken with S1IS. A folder call "nicky's cam" is taken with digital SLR. my comment on S3IS is the marco mode, really work great. anyway, i have yet fully discover the S3IS yet! |

May I ask the S3IS can take how large the memory card? Can it take max 8GB SD card? I m thinking of buying 4GB or 8GB SD. But worry it cannot be use as I cannot return the card once I open it. What is this SDHC compare to normal type?

QUOTE(kelvinyam @ May 6 2007, 07:57 PM) I've never seen or heard anyone use 8GB SD on their S3, but 4GB is kinda common. The safest way is to bring your S3 and try it at the shop. The shop will not refuse your request if you ask for a try. Alamak, nobody try before. I m worry they never allow you to try it as they need to unpack the pakaging. Once open consider sold. Just read this photo spore forum, becarefull with transcend SD card. The 150x speed state at the card is not a write speed. It is a read speed. And the write speed is just 20x. He is using S3IS to test it. The kingston and lexmar have no problem. This post has been edited by ozak: May 7 2007, 01:07 AM |

QUOTE(JET @ May 8 2007, 10:52 AM) To me, i think S5 is too expensive (for now), since it just launch. How much is the different between S5IS and EOS?Not really worth it to buy. I would strongly suggest to get S3 now. The price is dropped but the quality is still there. If really wanna upgrade/buy with 2k++. I prefer to go for EODs |
