Well, my thinking is like this. Company B's share price, given its consistent record, would already be sky high. While it looks tempting, it may not be very rewarding.

X is now at its all time low. Should it rebound, of course, must be based on their FA la, then it would be a lot more rewarding as the stock price catches up.

I understand what you are saying for company B.
Yes, it's possible, that given the current bull market, the share price could be sky high.
But isn't this what share investing is all about?
You cannot simply buy any good company at any given price!
Buying price is everything!

Company X is all time low.
But how sure are we with that statement?
I am sure you was tempted cos you saw some q-q improvement in profits...
BUT the y-y comparison showed that profits dropped 42%!!

Also, you probably was tempted by the previous highest price recorded by X.
Yup, you compare the high then and you compare the price now...
and obviously, it look as if the price dropped a lot.

However, this is one thing you need to to differentiate and realise.
When X price was shooting, the market gave it a very high rating based on growth.
When a growth stock ceases to be a growth stock, that stock can really tumble one........
Last time I was asked to study semi-con stocks.
Focus on stocks on MPI.
During the dot com area, MPI was trading around 60 bucks.
Valuation actually wasn't even expensive.
It paid good dividends...
balance sheet showed millions of cash no loans...
belonged to a very rich, successful tycoon...
it even got share buyback...
what could go wrong?
when the growth stopped....
everything came crashing down.....
it's more than 20 years already....
the company and the stock never did recover.....

of course X and MPI not the same.
if the business recover, of course the stock could recover.....
but why want to bet on it now?
sometimes in stock market, the early bird strategy... carries much more risk.
As it is, the stock price is pricey....
certainly doesn't deserve current price based on its current profits.....
